Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos The Wrap Up A great time was had by all! No, seriously, let’s see….. Animal Kingdom Still love the theming, but still not enough to see. Would love to see Beastly Kingdom become a reality, as long as it is not CHEESE like Chester and Hester’s Will definitely go back to eating at Rainforest for lunch next visit. No more slimy Tusker House chicken for Gonzo! Must also have that oatmeal raisin ice cream cookie sandwich that I missed out on this time! MGM Did not spend enough time here. Need to plan more time here next trip, but was glad I at least got to do ToT RnR and Muppets. One Man’s Dream is a must, as long as it is there, as well. Still could do without DAHAT (above) Epcot Still not overjoyed with Future World, but really liked the JIYI ride with Figment, except for the scary singing moon part! LOVED being able to get our picture with Lilo and Stitch, as well as the cube with Craig and Chris’ pictures MK Ahh, still is and always will be my favorite WDW park. Pecos Bill’s was nasty, though – Cosmic Ray’s is where it’s at! Length of Stay As I mentioned before, 7 nights was a bit too long for us. Maybe if we had a day to just relax in the middle, but we were exhausted by the end of the week, and totally tired of theme parks. I also couldn’t wait to ditch the waist pouch and the camera by the end of the week. The Fourth of July at the World The crowds were manageable – of course we stayed clear of the parks that day. Won’t go back in the summer in a hurry, though – the rain was the pits! The Canon Rebel 2000 This was an excellent birthday gift! I love the way the shutter sounds when you snap a shot! Was also glad to finally be able to get some good close-ups. continued.....

Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos ...... Most Magical Part of the Trip Staying at the WL. What incredible theming! I really felt like a princess getting to stay there. I want to stay there again! Hopefully they will expand the size/selection of Roaring Forks, and then it will be perfect! Loved the towel animals everyday – our Mousekeeper was the best! One morning, Andy called me to the balcony and showed me two otters at play in the pond outside our window. A truly magical memory. Worst Part of the Trip Stupid BUG bites! The Birthday As I have stated, could have been a bit more magical if SOMEONE had remembered, but still an awesome way to spend the day – waking up at WL and spending the day at MK with Breakfast at the CP, a Dole Whip, and two visits to the Tiki Room. And Ohana at the Poly – thumbs up! On Turning 40 This hit me a bit harder than I thought it would. By the end of the trip I was convinced I was the oldest, ugliest and fattest female on property. I’m over that now, but it was a bit rough there at spots. More importantly, I’ve started to really think about what I am doing with my life and what I am going to do with whatever time is left, which leads me to What I learned on my summer vacation I had been feeling for some time now that I need to get my priorities realigned if I am going to really be able to do something for God with my life. The book I read for devotions, “Secrets of the Vine” really spoke to me about that topic. As I was sitting on the balcony, I thought about how I have been given an incredible mission in starting the youth group in my new church, but how so many other things have taken more of my time and attention. One chapter in the books speaks of how if you are bearing some fruit for God, he will prune back the things in your life that are keeping you from doing something great for him. It was almost as if I could hear God nudging me about one topic, in particular. Before I say what it is – please know that I am speaking from my heart about my life – and no one else’s. What is it – My “passion” for all things Disney in general. “No!” I could hear myself say – feeling like the rich young ruler – “Not THIS!” But, to be honest, I have spent an incredible amount of time, energy and money into vacations, trinkets, etc. these past two years– feeling like I could only get through the next day if I had another trip to plan and look forward to. Most has been paid in cash, but a car rental here and a dog kennel visit there have started to add up, and the credit cards balances have been going up. It is time to slow down and put things in a proper perspective, which is why our next trip will not happen until December of 2003 (although no one in my circle of family and friends believe I can hold out this long). Don’t get me wrong – WDW is wonderful, magical and incredible – but it was just getting too big in my life, to the point that it was taking a place that should only be reserved for God. Time to chill and put Him back where he should be. So that’s it – thanks for letting me share our trip with you – it has been a pleasure reliving the great time that we had – and I’m looking forward to all of your reports, as well! ![]() Love ya! Sandy P.S. and oh, btw, when I was looking up the old photos of Gonzo I found quite a few from my April 1980 trip with my high school band. The cool thing is, I actually have a mini-trip report written (as a 17-year-old) on the backs of the photos – so soon I hope to post “Tikibird’s April 1980 High School Band Report!”

Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos Thank you so much for your trip report! Your wrap-up was truly inspirational. Your youth group is very fortunate to have you as a leader. My DH is involved with the youth group at the church/school where he works, so I know first hand how important it is to guide our youths during those all important years of their lives, and hope that they will continue to serve The Lord. As a fellow 1980 graduate (and recent 40 year old!) I look forward to your band trip report. Bring on the memories!!

Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos Tiki, You made me laugh when I read about the spikes at the car rental return. My very first time going to Disney World with my husband at the car rental agency we watched someone run over them the wrong way! I am sure it wasn't funny for them, but we laughed. It was one big explosion. It was clearly marked in big signs what could happen if they went that way, but they did it anyway!

Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos I so thoroughly enjoyed reading your trip report. It makes me feel like I'm there with you (next time feel free to bring me along ) Its always a lot of fun to see different perspectives on the same place. It makes me want to write one of my own and share it with everyone since I've enjoyed all of the ones I've read.

Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your wonderful report made me feel like I've already taken one trip there this year - and we're not going until this December. I can't imagine how much time this must have taken you to write it all and scan all of these wonderful family photos - but I assure you, it was WORTH IT! I can't think of a better place to find peace and clarity than at the WL - I'm excited for you that you gave yourself the best birthday present ever- a gift to yourself of finding out what is REALLY important in your life. Happy birthday - and have fun with the youth group this fall.

Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos tiki, thanks for an awesome report. thank you also for sharing "what you learned...". i can totally relate. it takes a lot of honesty to admit to yourself- and God- where you are and where you should be. and it takes a tremendous amount of courage to put it out for others to see. thank you for doing that. it has spoken to me as i'm sure it will to others.
