| Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos Day One continued – Scenes from a Lodge and E Ticket Night After dinner, I just had to get some shots of the Lodge, as I kept thinking someone might come up to me and say “We’re sorry, you’re not supposed to be staying here – back to All Star Music for you!” That, added with the fact that I got a Canon Rebel 2000 for my birthday (early, so I could take pics of Chris’ prom and graduation), and I was just dying to try it out. Purchased a Canoscan 1250 scanner with my birthday money, as well, which is what I’m using to post these. Much happier with the outcome than with Ritz’s poor quality CDs! Back to the Lodge – it is so beautiful here, inside and out! My favorite shot of the Lodge The pool area The slide at the pool Pool/lake view from above The start of the bubbling spring, inside the lobby The gift shop - this totem pole was one of my favorite things to take pictures of! When I got back to the room, I realized the downside of the WL refillable mugs is that all the lids are green, unlike the ones at the All Stars, which are different colors. So, my advice is to pack a Sharpie, as I tried to scratch our names on the bottoms with a pen, which didn’t work so well. Also, the fat mugs, unlike at the All Stars, are the better value, as you get 20 oz. of liquid in them opposed to the 16 oz. in the travel mugs. I had hoped to get all of my postcards written this day, but when we get back to the room I get two done – one for Winston, who was so thoughtful to send me one from the Grand Floridian, and one for our receptionist at work who is such a help to me. It is raining a bit again, but we head out to go to ETicket night around 9:00 p.m. Our very first ride on the monorail, and we get to ride in the cab! Our pilot, Scott, is very cool and gives us all co-pilot licenses!!! Mine is going to go in my wallet, right next to my Disneyland Autopia driver’s license! When we arrive at MK, many people are leaving for the day. We stop and get our wristbands, which takes about 5 minutes, and hurry to Adventureland for a ride on Pirates before it closes. What a masterpiece this ride is – incredible detailing! It’s now past 10 p.m., so we’re off to Splash, which is a walk on. A really annoying girl is sitting behind us going “Is this the big dip?” for every single dip. Then when we finally go down it, she goes “That wasn’t so big!” We get really wet, which is not too welcoming at this point, as we are tired, and a bit cranky, but we head over to BTMRR, which is about a five minute wait. This was so much fun, we decide to ride again. Although the first ride, in the back of the train is much better than the second, during which we were in the front. The whole ride we are screaming “Noe” This is what we have ended up calling our cat, Chloe, so every animal we saw was “Noe” Hey, we were tired! Next is the Haunted Mansion – the new headstone is cool! Chris wanted some popcorn, which he got in Liberty Square. This provided the perfect opportunity for me to wait in the short line to get my pic with Mickey and Minnie in front of the castle, as Chris was still eating. We then rode Space Mountain, and decided to try Astro Orbiter, as I was the only one that had been on it previously. The wait for this is ridiculous! When we finally get to the top, they were trying to stuff two of us in one rocket. Somehow, Andy and Craig got into one, but Chris got in the front and there was no way my really really long legs and slightly larger than normal backside were getting in the rocket, so I sit this one out. Craig and Andy stuff in the Astro Orbiter! We then ride TTA, which is still one of my favorites. What a relaxing and cool ride! By this time I am parched, and decide to get a frozen coke before we go. This does not sit well with the Food Police, and he looks like he is going to faint when he see the family in front of us order and start knowing on four turkey legs at 12:30 a.m.! Chris and I get a drink, as Craig doesn’t do sugar/caffeine at night, and we decide to call it a day. I have to take a few shots on Main St. I was kind of disappointed in the quality of the nightime shots, but really like this one. We then walk back to the monorail to get to the TTC. We get back to the Lodge, everyone showers, and we finally crash at 2:00 a.m. Long, exhausting, but wonderful day! Next Up – Animal Kingdom, Slimy Chicken and the Virgin Megastore sucks in the males of the family! |

| Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos Great report, Tiki! I'm only just getting around to reading it 'cause I've been updating my own (hint, hint, please check out, everyone!), but this is hysterical! A friend of mine just got back from 2 weeks in Europe w/ her DH & 18-yr-old DS. She said she's never traveling w/o another woman again b/c it was like traveling w/ monks who had taken a vow of silence! How did you manage w/ all that testosterone? Gotta love that Florida cop! What a guy! I don't quite get the "Food Police" thing. Is he just neurotic about what you eat, or what everyone (including strangers w/ turkey legs) eats? Dennis was a bit annoying on our trip, trying to count fat grams all the time. Keep it coming!! |
