Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos Day Two – Saturday, June 29th - Prequel to Animal Kingdom Now, we usually try to get to AK around opening, but we wisely waited until 8:30 a.m. for Mickey to wake us up – wait a minute – that wasn’t Mickey – that was Stitch! He’s such a cutie! (But it would have been nice to hear from Mickey at least ONCE during the trip - we always got Stitch) Andy is moaning and carrying on that he has blisters. This is because he packed nothing but sandals, just like last trip, when he swore up and down he would never go to WDW without tennis shoes and socks again. Guess what – no tennis shoes or socks have been packed, even though he purchased a special pair, just for this trip. The packing list I gave him said “extra shoes, 8 pairs of socks” on it. Too bad he never read it. Sigh! The night before, even though I was dead tired, I ironed (I REALLY appreciated having the iron and ironing board in the room when we arrived), as I didn’t want to deal with it in the morning. Twice, I said, “Does anyone need anything ironed?” Gonzo handed me his shirt, and I did mine things. I asked Chris again. Nope, he didn’t need anything ironed. So, as I am attempting to stumble around in the morning Chris says “Mom, I need my shirt ironed.” I tried to keep my cool, I tried to tell him to iron it himself, but then I figure we’re in Disney, I’m happy, I’ll iron it for him. So I did. He puts it on, looks in the mirror, says “BIG NECK!” throws it off and into a ball on the floor! I stand there stupefied while he explains he does not wear any shirts that he feels have too big a neck hole in them. I lost it right then and there and start yelling up a storm! Andy is trying to shush me, but I grab my devotional book and Bible (really needing some wisdom at this point in time!), and refillable mug (needing caffeine also!)and head out the door, still mad, only to see a woman lying face down in the hallway with her family surrounding her. She seems not be in a life threatening situation, but I ask her family if they need me to call someone. They say they already have, and a couple of other people are standing around, so I head for the elevators. I overhear them saying something about her shoulder. An elevator ride and short walk later, I’m at Roaring Forks. I order a Breakfast Plate (scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash browns, which were okay, but kind of cold) and a couple of bananas to take back to Andy. Total was $8.14. I eat at one of the tables and read for awhile. Next stop is the Mercantile where I find BARGAIN ALERT juice (Cranberry and Orange) at twice the size of that sold at Roaring Forks for $1.50 each (The ones at RF run $1.59 each and are half the size). I also notice that bananas are only 40 cents here, as opposed to $1.10 at RF, so I take advantage of that most of the trip, except for when I’m feeling extremely lazy. The Mercantile has a nice little selection of food items in the back, I’m assuming because of the Villas. I also purchase a little sewing kit, as we have moleskin for Andy, but forgot to bring scissors. The scissors in the kit were pathetic and broke almost immediately once I got them back to the room. He somehow figured out how to rip it! Speaking of back to the room, the woman was still laying on the floor when I got back, but now the staff had gotten involved. After I drop off the juice, I head back to the lobby to read some more. The book I selected for this trip was “Secrets of the Vine,” (second book in the Prayer of Jabez series) which I will speak more of later. When I get back to the room the woman is STILL on the floor, but they are getting ready to move her. I find I have a message from Tinksmom wanting to know how many birds are in the TikiRoom (I did find this one out – asked the CM at the Tiki Room– 102!) and the question for the Food Police is “How many bites are there in an Oatmeal Raisin Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich” Too bad we didn’t get one this trip, but I asked him, and he said for tikibird, the answer is 3! Thanks for the calls, guys – they were an awesome added touch! We finally are ready to go, after leaving the tip envelope, make it out of the WL around 10:30 a.m. (but the WL is so awesome, that I didn’t mind any of the time we spent there). Thankfully, for the woman on the floor, she has been transported elsewhere. Next up - Animal Kingdom, Slimy Chicken and the Virgin Megastore sucks in the males of the family!

Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos Hey, Tiki, got some ironing here... What's the prize for identifying the bear? Okay, he's Humphrey, from a cartoon called "The Ranger of Brownstone Park", that ran on The Wonderful World of Disney, 'way back in the '60's. I think there were a couple of these -- Humphrey was always trying to get around the Ranger's rules. I used to love those cartoons.

Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos Hey Tiki, I totally relate with the whole ironing scene. I work at a home furnishings store in the window treatment department. Almost every single item in my department is on display, which makes for a lot of ironing for me. I have to iron on the sales floor so that I will be accessable to any guest with a question. Any time I start the guests in the store inevitably ask me if I'll do theirs if they bring it in. That was funny for the first 50 times. One day I should just answer yes and take their money! I iron more in one week than should be allowed by law. Back on the subject, I am still loving your report. Gonzo's too. Keep it up.

Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos Tiki - You mentioned "Connections Vouchers" that you used at Roaring Forks. I've heard of these before, but I would like some details about them, if you would. Thanks so much!!!

Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos Great report, Tiki. DH got a Canon Rebel this past year (and Santa got him a really cool zoom lens) and the pictures he took at WDW are outstanding, especially the ones he took at AK. Glad to see yours came out so well, too. I'm inspired to hook up the scanner this weekend so I can add some pics to my TR. Keep it coming!

Re: Tikibird Flies Over the Hill in the World: June/July 2002 WL - Completed w/photos I'm loving your report, I could also relate to your ironing situation. My kids aren't old enough to worry about wrinkled clothing, yet, so at least it's only DH I have to worry about! As I was reading and you said you picked up your bible I thought you were going to say you picked it up and smacked him with it, that's probably about where I would have been!
