It\'s old but here it is!

Cast: Me (then 29), DH Tom(then 32), DD Rachel(7), and DS Alex(3)

Nov 12, 1999 Friday

Well we are off! We left home about 11 AM and the traffic was no problem! We underestimated where we would stop, we planned to stay in NJ but because of having no problems with traffic, we made it to Maryland instead! We cant believe how much the tolls are! Once we got into Mayland, traffic got a bit sticky but the kids were good in the car, which surprised me! The last 15 minutes were rough, Alex had enough of sitting in the car and Rachel just wanted to get to the hotel. We stayed at the Comfort Inn in Perryville (which we thought was ironic cuz we are from Terryville) and paid $70.00 for the room! We were planning on $120.00 for a night for that was what we were finding for going rates on the internet! So far in tolls it cost $8.80 and we still have to go thru Baltimore and DC. We are guessing that we have 2 hours left of driving and I hope that everything goes well in DC! Tomorrow we will tell!!

Re: It\'s old but here it is!

Day 2 Auto Train here we come!

Well we are on our way to Florida and it left earlier than we thought! The final boarding time was 3:15. Our room on the train was nice, big and comfy for the 4 of us! We had the full width of the train car and windows on each side. We had a full couch and a small chair on one side of the train. There was a radio in our room but it didnt work very well and was only playing for the first few hours of our trip. Dinner for us was at 7, a little to olate for the kids but for Tom and I it was fine. Tom and I had the steak and the kids got Choo Choo chewies and Mac and cheese. The kids werent too thrilled with it for the Mac and Cheese had parsley in it and that grossed them out! We only had to travel in the car for 2 hours and going thru DC wasnt that bad! I was expecting it to be crazy like here in Hartford sometimes but I was fooled! Then again it was a Saturday morning! We got to Lorton at 11am and went to Burger King for lunch, kids were happy (Tom too) for they had Pokemon in their happy meals (or is that Kids meals there?) While we waited for the boarding time, we watched the other cars come in and from which states they were from. Wow! About 80% of the people were 50 and older (not slamming you older folks! ) I guess that people our age dont believe in taking the train to Florida! Its just too bad that you only see the scenery for about 2 hours and then it gets dark (remember time change in Nov folks!) When you get into major towns, then you can see some things and that the main thing is that the kids are having a blast! Rachel loves the bunk beds and Alex is just hyper due to no nap this afternoon. Breakfast is from 6-8 tomorrow morning and tough into Sanford about 9am and then it's off to Wilderness Lodge! Whoo hoo!!

coming up Hey we are here!

Re: It\'s old but here it is!

November 14 1999 Sunday

The train got into Sanford earlier than expected. Our arrival time was supposed to be at 9 but we pulled in at 8! By the time we got our car and left the train station, it was 930am. We arrived at our hotel @ 10:15 but our room wasnt ready yet. Everything was all set by 1 and we went off to Magic Kingdom! Alex fell asleep in his stroller right after going into the park. Oh well. Rachel and Tom went on Buzz and then over to Goofy Barnstormer which her and I went on.. WE went thru the park quick and didnt ride much for we knew that we would be coming back another day. We left the park about 6 and headed over to the Contemp for dinner at Chef Mickey's. Tom and I were upset with what they had for a selection of food to eat and that it was nothing like it was before they changed it. I felt like we were being rushed and no to mention that we were sitting right under an AC vent that was at full blast! Got back to our room at 7:30 and the kids took a bath while I sent out some postcards and Tom went and got him and I some drinks. We watched the Electrical Water Parade and it was cute! Kids passed out at 9:45 and we crashed at 10:30.

coming up: Hey who said you can get sick on vacation?

Re: It\'s old but here it is!

November 15, 1999 Monday

Well what a day! I felt good when I woke up but now I have a chest cold starting! Rachel woke up this morning complaining of a tummy ache. While Tom was finishing getting ready for the day, Rachel tossed her cookies! She said she felt okay to go to Epcot but on the way walking to the boat docks she got sick again, right next to the pool! Sooo up to the hotel room we go again and she rested. A few hours later she said that she was feeling better and wanted to go to Epcot! We walked around for a bit and got her a Cherry Snowcone to at least get something in her belly for the day. We decided to head back home but she wanted to stop and see Food Rocks and to sit and rest for a bit. Okay fine. Well, as we are waiting for the doors to open, she has to throw up again! Luckilly the cast member saw us running around in circles and opened up the door where the Handicapped people go and told her to throw up in there, a bit more private! Mind you there was no potty there so she barfed in the corner and yes you guessed it right! RED from the snowcone. Oh well. I felt awful for Rachel and for the CM that now had to clean it up but he assured us that on an average he sees people throw up about 2 times a day and that she isnt the only person that has thrown up in there! Oh well we made our mark in Epcot! After that third time, she popped back to her normal self! She looked better and was even peppier! But we still decided to head over to "home" for her to rest up more and to do some laundry, before we chanced going out again later. About 5:30 we took off to DTD and the ride on the bus to there was 1/2 hour! I think that since we have been here we have seen almost every part of Disney! WE got home about 9 and crashed at 9:30. Tom went down to the arcade and the beach while the three of us caught up on some sleep.

Coming up Hey are we all feeling okay?

Rachel is doing 100% better than yesterday but still looks tired and isnt eating that great but I think that her tummy is still trying to recover from yesterday too! We went over to MGM this morning and finished up early enought that we went to AK! WE walked around a bit and decided to go home and go to dinner at Whispering Cove. We had a great dinner there and the kids ate good too! Headed back up to the room after dinner and Alex took a bath and Rachel jumped in the shower. While I was finishing up the kids, Tom took off to go to Pleasure Island to see the Comedy Warehouse. After everyone was squeaky clean we headed down to the beach to see the parade. Came back up at 10 and Tom got home about midnight but I never heard him come in or come to bed.

Coming up: OH NO not youre turn!

Re: It\'s old but here it is!

Well this vacation is getting worse as it goes on! We all got up at 8 and I felt terrible. Rachel and I headed down to get some tea and muffins for everyone else. We headed out about 10 to go to Sea World. Well at lunch time Tom informs me that he isnt feeling well and that we should start thinking about heading back to the hotel soon! We walked around some more and left there at 2 for Tom was just getting worse! I brought the kids swimming and Tom stayed in the room, went back and he still wasnt doing good so I decided that I was going to take the kids out and rent some bikes! They have a very nice trail that brings you to the campground! When you arrive at the campground they have a feeding zoo for you to pet the animals and feed them if you want! Back to the hotel and I let the kids play on the beach for a bit and got a snack for everyone. Back up to the room to check on Tom and he still is sick, says he has what Rachel had. Oh joy! Mind you that I am also sneezing and have a runny nose! Hopefully tomorrow everyone will feel better. The kids want to go see the water parade again so I guess we will.

Coming up: Hey we are healthy again!

Re: It\'s old but here it is!

Thursday Nov 18 1999

Well, everyone seems to be doing much better again! We decided to head over to MK again! Rachel wanted to go to Tom Sawyer's island to check it out. On the way over the CM announces that there are paintbrushes hidden on the island and see if you can find them! One per family please! If you found one, it would get you a pass to go straight on Splash Mtn or Big Thunder! So while we are walking around, another family calls us over saying that they found 2 and that we can have one! Well that just made Rachel's day! They gave us a certificate but naturally with our luck as it has been, Rachel didnt want to go on Splash and Big Thunder was closed! We headed over to Haunted Mansion and Rachel didnt like that either! Had her head in my arm most of the time while I tried explaining to her that it's okay! Oh well. We saw the parade and then got the mouse ears with the kids names on them and left. We hopped on the monorail and showed Rachel the lobby of the GF for she doesnt remember it when she was last here, then again she was only 1 1/2 years old! They had their Christmas decorations up and it was even more beautiful than the last time we were here. We decided that we should see what they have for PS for 1900 Park Fare and got one for 7pm! So we zipped back to our room to freshen up and went back there for dinner. Belle Cinderella and 2 of her mice were our characters for the night. We also saw Goofy and Beast. Another delicious meal 1500 times better than Chef Mickey's! More variety and sooooo good! Headed back home and watched the parade again and the kids and Tom went to bed while I got drunk doing laundry! Oh well a girl has got to have some fun ya know!

Coming up: Our last night here already?

Friday Nov 19, 1999

Our last day here! We went over to DTD and finished up our shopping and as usual we spent more than expected! Oh well. Tom and Rachel got t-shirts made from the computer arm of Goofy and Minnie. We went back to the hotel and vegged out for a bit and then decided to head over to Epcot to do the front part that we didnt do the other day. Gee go figure huh? Tom and I wanted to go on Test Track but it was a two hour wait and decided that it really wasnt worth it. Came back to the hotel and Rachel crashed early while the rest of us saw the parade for the last time. Wahhhhhh!

Coming up: You have got to be kidding me!

Well as I am writing this in my journal, we are on the train and on our way home. YAHHHOOOO
Now I have the stomach bug, but I havent tossed my cookies yet thank goodness! I just feel awful with an upset stomach, a fever and exhausted from not sleeping a wink last night for I thought that I was going to be sick! I know or hope that I will start to feel better on the road home. The kids seem to be happy going home, Tom and I are! Good to know that this time tomorrow we will be home and sleeping in our own beds.

Re: It\'s old but here it is!

Sunday Nov 21 1999

Well journal this is the last time that I will be writing something about this trip! And thank goodness too! We arrived early again in VA and waited and waited for our car to come off the train. When we got our car, we pulled over to the side for Alex wanted his blankie for the ride home. After endless searching and searching, we realized that we forgot it in Disney! ACK!! When we got to our first pit stop in NJ I called Disney and asked them if they had it! Luckilly they did whew! Told me that I have to call tomorrow morning for the woman that is in charge of sending the stuff back to your home is out today, no biggie. We explained to Alex that Mickey had his blankie and is going to send it home after he gives it more hugs and kisses. He accepted that and said it was okay, whew again! Was on the road at 10:30 am and made it home to CT at 6:30 am, not bad. But sooo nice to be in my own bed and take a shower in my own home again aahhhhhh!

Now, Kim that was quite an eventful trip. Bummer everyone had to get sick. I'll bet Alex thought his blankie was even more special after Mickey gave it some extra lovin'!!!!!
