Beth & Bill\'s vacation alone..OR..Who are you and do we have anything to talk about?

WHO? Beth (46) and Bill (47)
WHEN? 10/18 - 10/25
WHERE? West Palm Beach & WDW of course

Preface: I can't believe it, since the day Bill and I met (8/17/91) we have not spent a moment alone. Now, we are about to have seven whole days by ourselves. No phones (okay, our cell phone but we can turn that off), no responsibilities and no kids! My goodness, whatever will we do with ourselves? More importantly, will we actually have something to talk about? My DD, her fiance Dan & our sweet, beautiful, incredible (okay, I'm sure you get the idea) 6 mo. old granddaughter Kiyah will be taking care of our 10 y.o. son Tanner while we're gone. We will be splitting our time between visiting family in West Palm Beach and going to WDW. YES! Let the adventure begin.

Friday 10/18:

We're up and out the door by 5:00 A.M. to get to the airport for our 7:30 flight to West Palm Beach. Melissa & Tanner (poor kid, he must have turned at least 8 shades of red while I kissed him AT LEAST fifty times at the airport) drives us while Dan stays home with Kiyah. At the airport we use the Delta Kiask which we find out is a wonderful way to save time!! While everyone else is standing in line to check in with their luggage, we go to one of the kiasks, put in our Delta Skymiles card, answer a couple of questions (do you want to change times, seats, how many bags do you have etc.) it prints our boarding ticket and as soon as we're done our name is being called at the special kiask desk. They check our I.D.'s, tag our bags and we're on our way, leaving a huge line of people behind us. Trust me, this is the only way to fly! (Not only that but if you're flying now until 12/31, you get 1,000 extra skymiles.) No, I'm not a Delta employee, I just love this airline!

At 7:00 a.m. we hear an annoucement over the intercome, "There will be a short delay of flight 2323 leaving for West Palm Beach due to a MOUSE being found on the plane." Now I would not have been surprised to hear that a mouse was onboard if we had be headed to Orlando but WPB? They also inform us that if the flight had to be cancelled because they couldn't catch the little critter, there are no seats available for WPB for the rest of the day. Thanks to Passporter, the first thing that pops into my head is Rule 240. I tell Bill about it and there is no doubt in our minds that if they cancel our flight because of this, we will not hesitate putting Rule 240 into action. One hour later another annoucement comes over saying that they have not caught the mouse but yes, the flight will still happen. We all board the plane and we head off into the bright blue sky.

Thanks to Bill allowing me to have my death grip on his arm during take off, the remainder of the flight would have been fine except for the sweet little dog that was in a small carrier two rows in front of us. The owner kept this poor little creature on the floor during the whole flight and it barked/howled the whole time we were in the air. I know it's poor little ears along with the strange movement of the plane must have bothered it the whole trip and that's why it barked. Not once did it's owners pick up the carrier to comfort it during the flight. Finally Bill (okay, so he's not known for his tact ) got up and walked up to the dogs owners and told them if they weren't up to comforting their pet on their own, that he would be more than happy to take the dog and put it on his lap to calm him/her for the rest of the trip. Needless to say the dog was quiet for the rest of the flight but with a complaint of course from the dog's owners to the stewardess (who by the way, thanked my husband for stepping in). Next thing we know the plane is landing and we're being hugged and kissed by my oldest DD Stephanie. I'm not so sure that life can get any better!!!

Should have let the dog go. If he is anything like our little guy, he would have sniffed the mouse out in no time.

Of course that would have made for a bit of chaos (sort of like a scene from Mouse Hunt ) when the Delta mouse ran out from the hiding place and the dog chased him around the cabin.

Great start. Will keep an eye out for more
