vickeymouse 11/02 the trek

Wow! What a trip!! Let me just say, for the record, it IS possible to OVER PLAN. The drivin' bunch took off 6:00 p.m. of Friday, Nov 15. Sis says, "I'm sure we can drive straight thru, used to drive to Texas all the tiem." Maybe in hindsight, not the best idea. Armed with my "Along I-75" and the AAA "Trip Tiks" Trip Tiks may or may not give you the best route option, but all the maps and guidebooks were helpful. The kids did great, anyone with a long trip ahead w/kids absolutely need to take a TV/VCR combo unit that plugs into the cig lighter - a total life saver!!!

We did manage to drive straight thru - only stopping for gas & potties. Saw several VERY bad accidents along the way. That kinda added to the stress level. Made it to the Oscala official visitor center around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The original plan was to hit Orlando Saturday and find "cheap" accomodations til time to check in at FWC Cabin on Sunday. By this time, 18 hours into the drive, I think sis drove 2 1/2 hours - I drove the rest, I made the executive decision to change to a less hassle/more convienent option for me and added Saturday at our FWC Cabin.

This was my first stay at FWC so I don't have anything to compare to, but every time I went to the front desk at the outpost, they were busy, slow, and a least one "guest" was irrate. Check-in was no exception. the CM was training, but very nice and helpful. They honored by room request for location.

Once safely in our Cabin, which was very nice, loved being able to park right there, the full kitchen, private bedroom - what was not to love? Then I began to stress about the rest of our herd flying out on Sunday. Got their tickets on Expedia. We don't fly much and have never had any experience with "E tickets".

That's about when the bizzarre phsyical symptoms started in. I have never experienced anything like that before. Woke up in the night almost in a state of panic, couldn't think straight, numbness down my left arm and leg. I'm thinking, "Great, I'm gonna wreck vacation by having a stoke!" I had about half a dozen of these "episodes" though the next afternoon, until I was able to get myself a decent nap. Never had them again. I came to the conclusion that they were exhastion coupled with a severe case of over-planning & stress.

The flying bunch arrived without a hitch. Completely uneventful - except the very personal search of my 60 year old mom in Chicago. I had lined up a Tiffany Towncar for their transportation. They were VERY impressed. The driver was awesome.

Got mom, sis and her girls settled in to WL and we all slept great Sunday night.

Re: vickeymouse 11/02 the trek

Hi Vicki, I can related to your panic-type attacks - I think you plan so hard and want everything to be just perfect, sometimes it gets overwhelming.

The cabin sounds great, and glad the rest of your crew made it okay.

Great report so far - would it be possible for you to post the rest of your report as replies to this one (you can change the title as you make updates if you like)? This makes it alot easier for us all to follow along.

Thanks, and looking forward to your next installment!

Your body was just trying to tell you how tired it was from all the driving/planning. Glad you were feeling better quickly. Can't wait to read more!
