Sun,Fun and Mickey Mouse Our 2 week vacation Who:Me(Angelina)DH and 22 month old DD What: A two week vacation- 8 days in Disney World and six days driving there and back from MN. When: 2/9/03-2/22/03 Why We try to go to Disney at least once a year. This is my fifth trip to Disney World(two trips to Disneyland)DH fourth trip to DW(one trip to DL) and DD second trip to DW(one trip to DL) Like every trip to Disney World this one was incredible! But my DD being a little older and able to do so much more made this trip all the more special. We drove down from MN. for the second time. We try to make our drive part of our vacation. We pick fun cities to stay in, cool things to see, and great restaurants and shops to try out. For us, this makes the drive a lot more enjoyable. In Disney we stayed at POFQ(our second time there)and we had the Dream Maker Package with the add-on Silver Plan.Overall, we were as impressed by Disney as ever. But, we encountered more rude cast members on this trip than on all of our other trips combined. We didn't see as much on this trip as we would have liked(Do you ever?) Mainly because we returned to our resort everyday so our DD could get a nap. We also headed home early every night so she could get a good nights sleep. What follows is a tale of one family and their adventures with The Mouse. I would love to post some of the pictues from the 33(yes, 33 - I have a serious scrapbook addiction)rolls of film that I took. But I'm clueless how to do it. If anyone can help

Re: Sun,Fun and Mickey Mouse Our 2 week vacation Feb. 9 & 10 : Travelling or 1500 Miles in a Car With a Toddler When we tell people we drive to Florida they look at us like we're crazy! So let me explain. I hate to fly I worked for an airline (after I had my daughter I decided to take an indefinite amount of time off, so I've been on an extended leave of absence)so we used to fly all the time. I loved flying, until I had one really, really, bad flight to Florida. I mean the oxygen masks came down and everything. And working for an airline you sometimes learn things about flying you wish you didn't know. So, last year, after too many nail marks up his arm, my brilliant husband suggested we drive. And it's really not as bad as you think. When we left MN it was -6 (that's temp folks, not wind chill) so we were eager to get as far south as possible. We headed down through Wisconsin and Illinois ending our day in Paducah, Kentucky. Twelve hours from home. If anyone out there is from KY we've stayed in Paducah three times now and everyone there is so nice, we just love it. Plus it was a balmy 24 in Paducah (we're having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave) Our DD does amazingly well in the car. We brought along all her favorite movies to watch, which really helped. But my husband and I are now haunted by the Sponge Bob theme song in our sleep. The next day we continued on through Kentucky and into Tennesee, with a brief stop in Nashville to have breakfast at The Loveless Cafe. If you're ever in Nashville it's a must do, they have the best Southern food Then we continued on to Georgia. The driving in GA is scary. People go sooo fast! We were going 75 and people were flying by us. Our worst driving moment came in Atlanta when we were almost run off the road by a car swerveing into our lane. When we got past the driver we saw he had his newspaper spread out on his steering wheel and was reading it! Why? We got in some fun shopping, touring and dining in Atlanta. We even got to see the Gone With the Wind Road to Tara Museum (my favorite movie) We spent the night at the Sheraton Buckhead. We love visiting GA,the people are so polite and friendly. I only wish we had more time to spend there. But, we had to get to Disney World, The Mouse was calling...

Re: Sun,Fun and Mickey Mouse Our 2 week vacation Wow, driving 1500 miles over two days - you have my admiration! I could never do that... mind you, we can't exactly drive from where we are! Looking forward to hearing all about your time at Disney... Cheryl

Re: Sun,Fun and Mickey Mouse Our 2 week vacation Day 3: Palm Trees, Warm Weather and Finally-Disney World As we drove through the sunshine in GA our salt covered Expedition really stood out and we were really wishing we had washed the car before we left. But if you wash your car in the winter your door can freeze shut! (Remind me why some of us live in MN?) We always get really excited when we see our first palm tree. In fact we get off the interstate in Tifton,GA (the first place we see them) and take a picture with the palm trees. We were all starting to get antsy because we really wanted to be in Disney and as an added bonus my DD started throwing up. We're not sure if she had a bug or if she was carsick. This slows our driving down, because we make frequent stops to change her and just hold her (my poor baby) But whatever it was passed quickly, because by the time we reached Gainseville,FL she was her old self again, running around like a crazy baby!We let her burn off some energy on the U of F campus( a fun little stop) By 5:00 p.m. we're just miles away. Our AAA trip tick told us to get off the FL turnpike and take 27. We did and it seemed much slower than going through Orlando like we usually do. There were stoplights and we came in a totally different gate( not the gate by Buena Vista Crossroads like usual) But when we finally saw those purple and red signs I was so excited I wanted to jump out of the car and run the rest of the way there. We pulled up to the security gate and told the guard we were checking in. She located our name on a list before she would let us in. This was a new security procedure, even from our last trip in March 2002. But my DH and I both agreed that it was a good precaution. When we pulled up to the lobby of POFQ a cast member told us one person had to wait in the car while the other went inside. Another new security procedure, we used to just park our car in front and check in. But both DH and I wanted to go in so we just parked the car and headed in. My DD was off and running,so while I checked in DH chased after her. There was no line to check in. But the cast member who I dealt with was not very knowledgeable. We opted for the Silver add-on plan, which I know is relatively new, but no one who works for Disney seemed to know anything about it. When I booked our vacation through CRO the wonderful CM helping me told me about the silver and gold plans and it sounded great, so we chose silver. But after that CM all I got was conflicting information about what our plan did and did not include. The most useful info I found was on wdwig.com, which gives a pretty complete list of what the plan contains. When we checked in we were given a brochure about the plans and I thought, "why didn't they send this a month ago with everything else?" it would have been helpful. Oh well. I told the CM checking us in that my husband and I wanted our magical wish features(you get 2 per person perday) for today for the length-of-stay access to the GF fitness center, to work out. He had no idea what I was talking about. So, I had to find it in the brochure he had just given me and show it to him. He asked the CM next to him if he knew anything about it and that CM told me guest services would take care of it. Great, so I gathered my maps and brochures thanked the CM and moved on to the guest services line, and I mean line. But it gave me time to look at all the beautiful details in the lobby. When it was finally my turn the CM at guest services told me they could take care of that where I had just checked in. I told her they had just sent me here. So then she said they took care of it at the health club. But I told her that I had called CRO and asked them and they told me they took care of it at the hotel. So she called the GF helath club and they told her I just had to come to the health club and they would add me to their list. I was concerned because I had been told that you got 2 wishes per day, if you didn't use them they were done. And since it was too late in the day to use the wishes for anything else they were going to go to waste,I didn't want to drive out to the GF and waste more time tonight. But the CM told me that you could use any number of wishes per day. You can also use them for any number of meals per day(I was told you could only use them for one meal per day) So after all that confusion, we finally headed up to our room. A funny coincidence, while my DH was chasing after our DD he ran into our pediatrician who was there with her family. It was so neat! This time in addition to making room requests with CRO I faxed them according to the instructions on wdwig.com. We got everything we asked for. We were in room 5342, with a beautiful view of the coutyard. I unpacked while my husband brought up the bags from the car. We always like to start our trips with a visit to MK but as it was closing at 7pm we would never make it in time. So we headed to Epcot. I love EP at night, Spaceship Earth lit up is so beautiful. Our most magical moment of the day came in the EP parking lot. As we were walking towards the entrance our DD stared hoping up and down in her stroller clapping and said, "Yay, Disney World!" We almost started to cry. It was like one of those Disney commercials that get you all choked up. We waited in a small line to have our bags checked(one line I never mind waiting in) Could you believe last year we actually heard someone complaining about this procedure! Once instead the park we were so excited to finally be here we just stood there taking it all in for minute. Then we headed for the fountain. My DD was mesmerized by the water and lights. Our first attraction was Ice Station Cool. I always get a kick out of how much fun the CM's there have with the snow, they're always having little snowball fights. My DD just loved all the sweet sodas ( the first she's ever drank) except when she tasted Beverly she made this horrible face and threw the cup on the ground. We were absolutely starving and I couldn't wait for table service so we headed to Mexico and ate at Cantina de San Angel. The food was like Taco Bell only 10 times more the price. I wanted the nachos which came with beef, except I don't eat red meat only poultry and fish. So I asked if I could sub chicken for beef. They said no, I don't know why. So 2 meals and 2 margaritas came to $30.00 which for the quality of food was outrageous. We got a table outside, and this was about 15 minuites before Illuminations (there was no one in EP) So we got to enjoy IL while we ate. Why don't they put those umbrellas down? My daughter at first was a little scared of the loud bangs, but she quickly got over that and just loved the fireworks and the images in the globe. IL makes me cry everytime I see it. It got really cold out, I think it may have gotten down in the 40's so we quickly headed back to our car and back to POFQ. We ended our night with more unpacking and watching all the park info on TV. I could watch those channels non stop, but after a day or two it drives DH nuts We drifted off to sleep dreaming of our days to come. Next, Breakfast with the Princesses

Re: Sun,Fun and Mickey Mouse Our 2 week vacation Feb 12: Breakfast With the Princesses DH and I awoke early (I can never sleep in at Disney World) DH headed to the Boardwalk to work out. They just scanned his resort card and he had access for the rest of the week. And it was only Magical Wish, not two like we'd been told. He really liked the club and even though it was not that big he was pleased to find it was never crowded. I knew we would be missing EE today because DD needed to sleep in. So once she finally woke up we headed to EP to enjoy the PSB in Norway. At the entrance we took our first of the four park pictures. Some of those photographers are a little pushy. On subsequent trips to the parks we had already purchased our photo at I would politely tell the photographers we already had one, "Not from me" was always the response. Do they work on comission or something? The crowds were very light. We headed to WS to take some pictures and check in for our PS. Our PS was for 10:00 am and we checked in about five minutes early. We were given one of the pagers and told it wouldn't be too long. While we waited my daughter cleaned us out of pennies making wishes in the waterfall. We didn't mind waiting as the weather was beautiful. It was quickly approaching 70 and there was not a cloud in the sky. We were seated at about 10:15. This was our first time in Restaurant Akershus and we thought it was beautiful. It reminds me of CRT, with its' high ceilings and etched windows. Our table already had a serving tower on it loaded with fruit, pastries and yougurt. We had a wonderful server named, Helle. She came over immediately with water, oj and coffee. She explained the food we would be served and it arrived soon after that. We had waffles, bacon, sausage, eggs and potatoes. The food was fresh, warm and very good. Our DD wanted more strawberries and Helle brought her a huge bowl of them. We had yet to see any of the princesses and the restaurant was filling up fast. Just as we were finishing up our food we saw Pocohantas appear at the other end of the restaurant. She reached our table about one hour after we had first been seated. She was beautiful and very sweet. I had brought along DD's Princess Valentine's, I wrote the character's name on the valentine with their picture on it and signed my daughter's name on them. She gave one to each princess. This turned out to be really special. All the princesses knew her name. In fact we saw some of the princesses again and they remembered her name even days later(but more on that later of course) Also the characters seemed to really like it. They all made such a fuss over their valentines and tucked them safely away in their costumes (except Belle, she very discreetly put hers down her dress) Next we were visited by Aurora and Mary Poppins. But by this time my daughter had caught sight of Belle (her favorite) she just stood there staring at her, clutching her Belle valentine to present to her. When Belle came over she was wonderful, she picked my DD up and told her a story about the Beast. DD just loved it Next we had Snow White. Our DD waited patiently for her to come to our table. She stood behind Snow White with her little arm outstretched, holding her Snow White valentine. It was so adorable. Our last character was Alice. Each princess spent a good amount of time with my DD, I never felt they were rushing to get to the next table. And they were all wonderful with her, picking her up and holding her. When all the princesses had come to our table DD was quite sad. She would run up to other people's tables and just gaze at the princesses. Overall, we really enjoyed the PSB, even with the long wait to see the princesses. The table next to us left- we couldn't believe it. We used 2 Magical Wishes to pay for our breakfast, the total came to $43.22 with tip, but we gave her a little extra. Up next: Around the World in 2 Hours and DD Speaks French
