Re: Party of 10 at WDW...5-7/5-17/2003

Sunday, May 11:Mother's Day Surprise
Today's the day I surprise my Mom(DN) with Tea at the GF. I'd been working with itinerary planning and they got us a 12:45 PS. Seems eary for tea but we've got a 5:00 dinner at Alfredo's. Gave DN her card at breakfast and wrote the surprise in there. We'll spend a few hours in Epcot with the gang and then head over to GF. Monorail ride to Epcot is fun...DS#1 now knows the spanish "away from the doors" by heart and recites along with announcement. Is this a sign we've been here to long? Mom's are given carnations at Epcot for Mother's day...very nice. Here we break up as DN and DG want to check out flower and garden show and we want to head to TT. Arrange to meet by the entrance at noon. (this will prove to be a little too vague). We FP TT and go to Ellen's Universe of Energy. I really like this attraction although it seems louder than I remember. DS#2 rides with his ears covered for most of the ride. I brought ear plugs but space them out. Next stop TT! DS#2 so excited because he's finally tall enough! Zoom thru with the FP and love the ride. DS#2 wants to go back on...NOW! But, it's getting close to noon and my rendevous with DN. We all head toward the "entrance" beacuse we're not sure what DG will do. Wait for DN,DG and try to call them. Finally link up, DG comes with DN and me while rest check out the Wonders of Life. DN and I enjoy a wonderful tea at the GF. What a treat, little sandwiches and scones with devonshire cream. Dessert was a cream puff swan filled with white chocolate! We weren't rushed at all. Am I making you hungry yet? We window shop at GF and the Polynesian before meeting up with the gang at the volcano pool. We swim for awhile then dry off and head back to Epcot for Dinner. Heat of the day is getting to children as we make our way to Italy. Too tired to walk so we wait for the boat (this does take awhile so DB and DNE walk ahead to check in at Alfredos). Meanwhile, DS#2 falls asleep in my lap on the boat and I carry him to Italy. We make it! Are seated right inside the restaurant so it feels like we're eating in the entrance foyer. I find the menu way over-priced for pasta. Yes,it's good and the waiters are soooo cute but wasn't really worth it. We hang out in World Showcase, catch the Chinese acrobats (man are they limber), ride Maelstrom, cute ride, like the backwards part. Take children's photo in Viking helmets near troll. (It's all about scrapbooking, people) and outside on viking ship. Tour kid's garden and let children play. By now it's close to 8pm and time to stake out a spot for Illuminations. Brother's family head back to hotel while the rest of us head over to lagoon by friendship launch. We're on the Mexico end by the big giftshop at the entrance to World Showcase. It's already getting crowded! We plant it by the water and the bugs are coming out for dinner! Remember your bug repellent, you'll need it! Slather us up and start chating with a man standing behind us. Turns out he's a CM at MGM and his son is in charge of Illuminations! They control the show from high atop Mexico. He tells us we're in a great spot to watch the show ! And we chat for the hour as DS#2 whines about waiting (...how much longer, my legs are tired..yada yada..)! Show starts and boy are we amazed! Tip: bring earplugs for your sensitive ear kiddos, left mine in the hotel! DS#2 in awe so he's quiet. I have never seen anything like it and our new CM friend says they have only cancelled it once in the years of performances. He tells us to stay for 5 minutes after it ends and then head out to avoid crowds. It works! Although it's still crowded we're not being herded and I don't have to carry DS#2! Crash in room as DH fantasizes about playing golf tomorrow, the rest of us will visit Seaworld!

What a great trip report!! Just hearing about Mary Poppins and your little one brought tears to my eyes! My DD (5) is hoping to "walk down the street holding Minnie Mouse's hand".

Looking forward to hearing about SeaWorld next!

Re: Party of 10 at WDW...5-7/5-17/2003

Great report! Sounds like you did a great job with the planning. Oh, I just wanted to say that statements like this:
"Meanwhile, DS#2 falls asleep in my lap on the boat and I carry him to Italy." could really confuse someone if they didn't know they were reading a trip report about Walt Disney World!

I'm so sorry about the hat. That sucks. Did he get to replace all his pins?

Looking forward to more!

Love your trip report. Sounds like you got some great pictures for your scrapbooks. I had tears in my eyes too when you wrote about Mary Poppins and your DS. Too bad the hat wasn't turned in. Friends of ours had their camcorder taken in MK while eating-was on back of their chair. It's hard to believe things like this can happen at WDW!

Re: Party of 10 at WDW...5-7/5-17/2003

Monday: May 12 Seaworld and Whispering Pines Cafe

Okay, I'm sorry this has taken so long to finish! I got wrapped up in painting DS#1 room Buzz Lightyear green!
So, since we're from Colorado and states away from any ocean we decide to do a Seaworld Day. Tiffany Towncar picks us up in front of the Polynesian. Again, the service is great. By the way DH is a no-show because he is golfing the day away at Eagle Pines. Shot an 85 playing from the black tees AND met former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz!
We, on the other hand, saw the otter and seal show, very cute. Then huffed it to the other side of the park to see Shamu. Saw the sharks, penguins, manatees and pet some stingrays. We only spent 4 hours because we were hot, hot, hot! Seaworld was nice but we're Disney people and cannot stray far from Mickey!
Back at the Polynesian we find DH recovering from golf in our room. Decide to cool off at the pool before our 6:50 Whispering Pines PS.
We took the monorail to the Magic Kingdom and then the boat to the Wilderness Lodge. Wow, is it beautiful. Being from Colorado it reminds me of Keystone! We check out their pool and then head inside to wait for our table. The lobby is amazing! Kids are having a ball playing with the lincoln logs at the cafe while we wait. (How come they never play with them at DN's house...HHmmmmm?) We are seated within 10 minutes towards the middle of the restaurant. 5 of the adults have the family style dinner, one orders off the menu. Our waiter is very nice and throws the straws on the table. Boy, the kids thought that was great. Salad was yummy, biscuits and cornbread also great. Before dinner is served the younger boys participate in the wooden stick horse race around the restaurant...lots of fun! They all got special certificates that were immediately appropriated for the scrapbook! Dinner came and DS#1 had to ask for ketchup! Well, if you've been here before you know what came next! He has to stand up on a chair in the restaurant and shout for ketchup! What happened to my usually loud kid? I thought he was going to cry!! Got his ketchup and waiter cheered him up by making nifty bandanna hat out of napkins! Our dinner was awesome! Ribs, shredded pork, sausage, beans ! We were stuffed! But, ready to shop

So, we split up here and my family heads to downtown disney. I leave husband and kids for scrapbook store now that I have a plan of action!
Attention avid scrapbookers...know that the stuff is sold individually or in packages. But the packages aren't displayed very well so choose wisely, young skywalker! After dropping $45, and this does not include any album, I go in search of my boys! They are in the Toy Store! After a heated discussion about which toys to bye DS#2 is happy with a Kali River Rapids toy while DS#1 gets a pack of disney mini-toys. Each package is different and you can't see what was inside. So he thinks he "feels" Spaceship Earth and is happy.
I am not, my contacts are ready to jump from my eyes! We wait for a bus back to the Polynesian. Be warned: it takes about 45 minutes to get back from Downtown Disney...pace yourself. Grab my Mickey Bar and head to our room! Tommorrow we return to Animal Kingdom!
