Family vacation-DCL and OKW continued from DCL TR

Thanks for all your feedback. I know I’ve enjoyed putting our experiences on paper so to speak. Its nice to know you’re enjoying it too. Yes, my family is very special and a wonderful support.

I am splitting this day into 2 parts, its too long for one post!

Day 5: Off to OKW! Its not over yet…

Disney Cruise Line is so efficient at “off loading” passengers. We had a quick breakfast at Animator’s Palate. It was another chance to chat with Janaur and Evgene before we left. We found seats at Preludes lounge and settled in to wait. I guess everyone was taking advantage of one last “potty break” as there were lines in front of the restrooms. Debarkation was easy. No customs duties this time! I saw a few bananas on the no-no table. It’s funny how many people like to take a ‘snack’ off board. I guess it’s a natural impulse if you didn’t know it was illegal.

We rode down the escalator and right over to the Orange section. Found all but one of our bags just where they should have been. We scanned the whole section for my bro’s large suitcase. No case. Trying to hold incipient panic at bay, I scurried over to the CM in our section. It was Kit, who had checked us in at the beginning of our cruise. She took a quick report and went to check the gray section. Apparently gray and orange were easy to mix up?? In the gray section she found an orange-tagged case that was by coincidence the same brand as my bro’s and from the next door stateroom! We surmised that cabin 2078 didn’t see their bag and grabbed my bro’s instead. I wish people would take 2 seconds to double check the luggage tags! Kit took off to see if they had checked in at the terminal airline desk and they either already checked in and left or hadn’t yet checked in. She left a notice at the airline check-in hoping that the clerk would catch it. Kit was very reassuring, said these things happen etc, usually the bag is turned in within 24 hrs. She finished filling a lost bag report. This was the only time I didn’t get travel insurance. I was pretty upset. I really wanted this to be a great family vacation and this was threatening to put a damper on things. My bro and SIL were calmer than I and were more hopeful it would turn up soon. I was secretly worried the bag would get destroyed if it was abandoned instead of turned in. We were given a lost and found number to check in 24 hrs and Kit was happier to know we were staying at Disney—she seemed to feel it would be easier to reunite bro with his bag.

We went out the terminal doors and were hit with a wave of heat and humidity. Where did that come from? Crossed over to the parking area and gamely strolled over to the white tent and Berkley. He commiserated about our lost bag but also reassured us that it would be found soon. We (I) started to feel a little better but still felt at fault some how. That comes from a “mothering complex” I developed early in life. I guess it’s a fall out from being the eldest. (No, I don’t want to share how old! ) Berkley whisked us over to OKW and we were greeted with a smile and big “Welcome Home!” It was a nice feeling.

No wait at the check-in desk and joy, joy our room was ready. Wow! Something good after the bad. I had stretched my points to spring for a 3 bedroom Grand Villa—figured we could use some space after occupying 2 inside cabins. I’m sorry to say, I cannot remember the CM that checked us in. She was very helpful. I asked about the packages I had shipped from home. They hadn’t arrived yet but UPS didn’t deliver till late afternoon so they’d call if it came in. She noticed that DD was excited about penny pressing right away. I admitted that I had a slight obsession about penny pressing. In fact, in one of those boxes, I had 4 tubes of quarters and pennies already arranged for quick smashing. She then proceeded to print out 7 pages listing where all the penny machines were!!
I was very impressed with her helpfulness.

Mike, one of the bellmen, took us to the villa 4323, air-conditioned van—bliss. It was 1½ blocks from the bus stop and just across the street from the Turtle Cove pool. It was closed for maintenance but would reopen on the 10th. Mike sent us up while he followed with the bags. We opened the door and my jaw dropped. It was huge! And that was only the dining room and living room. We ran around oohing and aahhing over the rooms. There were 3 bedrooms, each had a full bath attached and there was another full bath downstairs! It was sweet! The balcony overlooked a lake and fairway. It had a table and chairs and ceiling fan too! We took a few minutes to freshen up and then it was off to the bus stop and Magic Kingdom.

More to follow soon!

Grace

Re: Family vacation-DCL and OKW continued from DCL TR

Day 5-Part 2

As always, we breezed through security. I had purchased 4-day park hopper passes for everyone. DD and I had annual passes. Of course, invariably, everyone’s cards worked fine but for me. Mine NEVER works. Had to do the finger thingy and this time I passed. We headed for the Crystal Palace. I had gambled on a lunch priority seating. I know, it was testing the fates. While waiting to check in, I noticed a father fanning and misting his daughter with this fan/water bottle combo. He told me it was worth every penny and he’d have paid double for it. By now we were feeling the heat and humidity. Got checked-in and was given one of those pagers that light up and vibrate. What an improvement over the old way of queuing as close to the doors as possible to hear your name being ‘whispered’ by the CM.

I had just walked over to my family when it started buzzing. Cool! I didn’t really notice much changed from the renovations. I did notice it was brighter but my attention is never on the décor. Since all but 2 of our party were ‘veterans’ our CM quickly pointed out the buffet and explained how the characters would circulate. This was helpful as we were in a center section where I hadn’t sat before. I always have to do Crystal Palace and was bummed last year when it was closed. As usual the food was very good. DD went up for thirds! They had some kind of rainbow bread—it was yellow, green, purple and blue all swirled together. DD really enjoyed that. I prefer the adult fare. Yum—prime rib!

Tigger was the first character to stroll by. He was very excited to see that DD had a Tigger pen shaped like him. Tigger hammed it up with DD. Then Pooh came up and DD got very excited. It was then that I realized an oddly shaped pen wasn’t a friendly pen to write with when you have paws. It jumped out of Pooh’s paw. Tigger saw that and pretended to laugh. I commented that Tigger must be feeling bouncy today and handed it back to Pooh. He gave DD and I a hug and it was a very nice picture. Unfortunately, I can’t post any photos as my scanner is shot right now. My SIL was very excited to see the characters and also asked for photo ops. They were very obliging. The restaurant was not very crowded at all. Although I saw people waiting to check in there were empty tables. DD was waiting for Piglet—her next favorite Hundred Acres character. She was crestfallen when he came out for a brief moment only to take a break just as he neared our table. The CM reassured her that Piglet would be out in a moment—he was just getting a drink. Piglet returned about 10 minutes later and came right to the table. He gave her 2 kisses. It was priceless, her eyes got all round and she held her hand up to her cheek as she whispered, “Piglet kissed me two times’! Eeyore came by too but for some reason Eeyore must not have been having a very good day. He was not as interactive as the other characters. Still everyone had a good time and was stuffed to the gills.

The heat seemed worse as we left the CP, DD wanted to do the Pooh ride but it was closed for maintenance. We strolled onto It’s a Small World. We had to do it at least once, wait time was listed as 15 minutes but it was just about walk on. It was a nice cool break. I decided not to do pixs again as I have about 100 shots now. We had checked out Peter Pan before we got on, the wait time was 30 minutes and FP return was 3 hrs. I thought that Tom Sawyer’s Island might be a nice reprieve from the heat so DD and I strolled over. The Haunted Mansion had a 5 minute wait so I urged everyone else to go and we’d set up a meet time later. We all had cell phones making it easier to keep in touch. I find cell phones less static-y than radios. DD and I sat along the canal just behind the Frontier shooting gallery. It was shady and very quiet—a few people came by. After some rest, we strolled over the ‘raft’ dock and while waiting for the next launch, my sis called. As she asked where we were, I saw bro and sil coming down the walk. We all took the launch to the island.

Tom Sawyer Island was shadier but the tunnels and caves were very muggy due to the humidity. What was a grand adventure last Oct was not as fun this time. After we left, bro and sil went to ride the big rides while sis, DD and I walked over to the train station in Frontierland. We rode the train around to Main St. and got off just as the “It’s a Dream Come True” parade was entering the square. We found great seats on the steps just outside the City Hall. Since the doors were open we had a nice cooling breeze from the airconditioning. I got some nice shots, sad to say in all the times I’ve been to MK, this was the first time I saw the parade.

By this time, DD and I were really feeling the heat. She was drooping. We had PS for Chef Mickey’s for 5:30 so I decide that we could ride the monorail a bit. We stopped at the Polynesian. It was the first time I had gone inside. Wow! I love the fountain/waterfall in the center of the courtyard. We did a little shopping and got drinks and pennies. Then it was back onto the monorail. About 5 seconds after we sat down, DD was dozing. So we rode it around about 3 times. Around 5:10 we got off at the Contemporary and ran into the rest of the family. Here’s were I admit that I made my sil into another penny pressing junkie. Shh! Don’t tell my brother! I think she’s worse than me! After checking in, we were sent back for the photo op with the plate etc. Just as we were walking around to the front, our pager buzzed. Great timing. This time we got seated in the monorail section. It was cool to watch the monorail coming into the station. Another yummy meal. The prime rib was perfect except they kept scrapping the best crunchy bits into the disposal! I can’t get the hang of twirling the napkins around, mine seems to flop after a few swirls. What’s the secret??

Goofy came over right away. DD and sil were vying for the character’s attention. We got some great shots of bro and sil with them. The characters seem much more relaxed and ready to ham it up at Chef Mickey’s. DD got kisses again. I think she kept count every time we had a character encounter. Sil had a great time getting her pix with the characters. We spotted Donald Duck up near the dessert buffet. Waiting in line was a great way to scope out the desserts! A few people didn’t notice the line but the CM was quick to point it out. How can you miss a line that stretched past the dessert buffet?? Course I can understand a bit of tunnel vision when you spy a character and your child is clamoring for his autograph and photo. After our photo, where again DD received a kiss, I swooped to the dessert bar, got DD her ice cream sundae, and nabbed a few small pastries. They have a mini chocolate mousse layer cake almost like a petit four, éclairs and tiramisu. Oh, you have got to save room for dessert when you dine at Chef Mickey’s.

After dinner, we walked out the back entrance towards the pool. Did a few photos at the conveniently placed statuary. I knew there was a boat that went to Wilderness Lodge, my home resort. No one had been there before so we hopped aboard the waiting launch and headed for WL. I always get a buzz when I see WL; I just love it! We came through the pool area and I took them up to the look out for the view. When we entered the lobby, everyone was impressed. We walked back to the Villas. Sis could understand why I love it so much. Dad showed DD how to play checkers while a few of us sank into the leather rockers. There was a fire in the fireplace so we vegged for a time. Bro and Sil wanted to head to Downtown Disney to buy some clothing for tomorrow. The P’s were headed to Epcot. (They were like the energizer bunny the whole time we were there!) The five of us hopped the Downtown bus and did some quick shopping. The early rising and long day was catching up by then so we returned to OKW. My packages had arrived so sis and I went up to sign for them and grab some milk etc for breakfast. The only downside to OKW is waiting for the internal resort bus. If you miss one, its at least a 20-30 minute wait for the next.

We did a few loads of laundry, showered and hit the hay. I was pooped! They hadn't found bro's bag yet.

Re: Family vacation-DCL and OKW continued from DCL TR

Day 6—Animal Kingdom

Early entry day for AK! I chivvied everyone out of bed. (It was the only day I went commando, honest!) At least I had coffee made before rousting everyone up.

DB only carried his fancy digital camera so he and DD didn’t have to go through security. His DW carried the big bag—gotta talk with that gal and soon. Didn’t see any characters which was odd; we had very few character interactions that day.

Grabbed a stroller, this park is a tough walk for a 5 yr old. It’s become a tradition to do Kilimanjaro Safari first so we headed over there. The animals were up and out, munching on their tidbits right along side of the road. The water level was high this time so we had fun splashing through the large streams and we got a kick out of the old bridge. Ooh look, a baby hippo—how precious! Darn that woman’s arm got in my picture—oh, it was Mom, hope Dad got a good shot. Our guide mentioned how AK is involved in conservation and breeding programs designed to preserve endangered species.
The male lion was snoozing on the outlook and the cheetahs were chasing each other. Unfortunately, their area is very shady so it’s hard to get a good shot. The ostrich was showing off its plumage right next to the truch—what a wing span! Then it treated us to an up close and personal show of ostrich bathroom habits. Oops, close your eyes kids! We enjoyed a chuckle over that.

After the safari, we headed up the Pangani Trail. It was cool and quiet, sorta misty. The young male gorillas were very active and the adult male was snoozing in the corner of the viewing enclosure. Hmm, a bit of resemblance to a certain male I know! I was disappointed that the meerkats were not out and about I really enjoy their antics.

I love the bird enclosures. We just sit, trying to identify the various birds flitting around. How cool that they aren’t afraid—they sit looking right back at you with head cocked as if asking, “Well, what’s new?” DD loved looking at the fish, trying to keep track of all the different colors. She had a disposable camera I bought in one of the AK shops because, poor memory that I have, I forgot hers. Bad, bad Mommy! It was an expensive lesson but DD had a blast taking photos. Some of them turned out quite well too.

By this time, we’d split up and it was getting quite warm. I think it was a high of 94 today. Time for a snack. We came out of the trail right by the coffee shop—we got some fresh fruit and water from the cart across the way. The watermelon was very refreshing!

It was time to head over for Festival of the Lion King. We were meeting here as this was a definite do not miss show. It was a bit confusing entering as there were two CMs telling us to stay left but pointing right??? So what sounds do warthogs make anyway? I just love the pageantry, color and music of this show. Absolute magic! DD was transported—she couldn’t take her eyes off the ‘stage’. DD is afraid of loud noises but was mesmerized by Lion King. I guess loud music is different from fireworks and explosions. This is one show that literally brings tears to my eyes—its wonderful! As much as I enjoy Tarzan Rocks, if it came to one or the other, Lion King wins hands down. Yes, even over Tarzan’s uhm, appealing features.

DB and SIL headed to ITTBAB while we strolled over to the Maharajah Jungle Trek. Just past the Tree of Life, DD announced she was hungry, so we backtracked a bit to Pizzafari. This is a very nice family friendly counter-service restaurant. The last room past the service counter is quiet and usually the last to fill. We called it the cat room for the paintings of big cats on the walls. Didn’t get crowded until we were ready to leave. I think it’s a good value—the grilled chicken Caesar salad is tasty—I have it almost every time I’m at AK. This time when you bought the kid’s meal-pizza, drink and cookies, they gave you coupons for a free bottle of water and ice cream. Awesome!

Off to the Jungle Trek. I love this trail not only for the tigers, but the entire surroundings make you feel like you are in another world. My Sis has been on several Asian tours and remarked on how realistic everything seemed. The tigers were up and a bit playful, it seemed like a version of tackle tag. We watched for several minutes and saw tigers in almost every viewing area throughout the enclosure. I wonder how many there really are—a bit tough to keep count. After trekking, it was time for an ice cream break. DD had the Mickey bar while I was refreshed by the Orange Popsicle, I like the vanilla ice cream inside.

It was becoming quite hot so we decided it was pool time back at OKW. The Turtle Cove pool was still closed so DD and I took the bus to the main pool. How fun! There were sand lots to play in with misting water and the main pool was only 3’ at one end so it came up to DD’s chin. We cooled off in the pool for about an hour then it was time to get ready for our PS at Grand Floridian’s Cinderella’s Feast. I got this as a consolation when I couldn’t get Cindy’s breakfast despite getting up at 6:30 am for 4 days. I couldn’t believe how fast the PS go—by 7:02 am they were all taken!

The Feast was very good. We were called before DD got to see the Fairy Godmother but the CM said we could go see her anytime during dinner. As soon as we got to our table, Prince Charming was right there to pull out DD’s chair. It was too cool. DD loved being addressed as Princess by all the CMs and speaking characters. The buffet was incredible; prime rib, steamed shrimp, make your own pasta, jambalaya, all sorts of steamed vegetables—bright and crisp, huge dessert bar. The kid buffet had all the standards; pizza, chicken fingers, fish nuggets, mini hotdogs, and mac& cheese. They also had their own dessert bar with frosted cupcakes they could decorate: gummy mickeys, sprinkles of all sorts and whipped cream. The mice Suzy and Perla were circulating and in a very fun mood. We got a great shot of Suzy and Cinderella with DD.

Cinderella’s Feast was a lot of fun but not having experienced Cindy’s breakfast, can’t compare the two. Still, definitely worth it if you can’t get the breakfast PS since Cindy’s so hard to track down. My only criticism is the noise level. It was just so loud. The gorgeous imported player organ would go off about every 20 minutes. Since the organ was mounted on the wall right behind us, it was a bit irritating after the first set. DD was fretting about missing the Fairy Godmother so we stopped after dinner. She was wonderful with DD. The mother behind us offered to take a photo of me with DD and the Fairy Godmother. What a treat as I seldom get in the photos, being the photographer. It’s on purpose as I don’t really enjoy having MY photo taken. DD exclaimed out loud that every day was special but this was a very extra special day since we were together. I immediately got teary and felt that “gosh, I just love you soooo much” lump in my chest. This was my magical moment.

I hope my TR hasn't been too boring. Its fun for me to relive the moments of our vacation.

Re: Family vacation-DCL and OKW continued from DCL TR

Day 7—MGM Studios

Today we all slept in. All that running around WDW and the heat just sapped our energy. It was a luxury to slowly wake to the morning sunlight slipping in past the blinds. Course, sleeping in for me was 7 am. All was quiet as I brewed coffee and slipped out to the balcony to enjoy my first sip. Aaahhh….

Sis was next to rise and we chatted about what we wanted to do at MGM and that I was retiring the commando patch today. When Bro came down, we were surprised to hear that SIL had risen early and took off for AK. She had run out of quarters and pennies for pressing yesterday. See, I told you I had turned her into a true penny pressing fanatic. She’d meet us at MGM later.

Finally, we were headed on the bus to MGM. Already, it was promising to be a warm, okay-hot day. Picked up a stroller, and made our way to Playhouse Disney. The queue was huge and the CM wasn’t optimistic about our getting in so we headed to VotLM. Stand by was 15 minutes so we got in line. As we waited, a good number of people were returning for their FP entry. We were worried we would be left waiting for the next show as the FP entrants kept coming and coming. I guess other people were concerned too since they left the line. Our worry was for naught as time wound down, they did start letting us in. Whew! I was dreading explaining to DD why THEY got in and not us. As always, we enjoyed the show but it was changed. I think I prefer the first version but DD didn’t care. The ‘scary’ bits were toned down and Sebastian no longer popped out at the top of the stage. It seemed shorter but I didn’t time it. Lots of bubbles and mist—refreshing except the bubble residue on my sunglasses was tough to wipe off. We haven’t had a bad seat there anytime we’ve gone.

We stopped at the Little Mermaid shop located conveniently next to the exit. Gotta press those pennies and DD’s Disney Dollars were burning a hole in MY pocket. For some reason, DD really wanted an Ariel wig. I talked her into waiting as I didn’t really want to carry around a wig plus I was hoping in getting some shopping at DtD—they were still offering an AP discount at the big Disney store.

B&B didn’t start till 3 pm,though I wasn’t sure we’d still be here due to the heat. Decided to just stroll and enjoy MGM as in previous visits we ran from show to show trying to get it all in. We walked around Echo Lake, and met up with Bro and SIL, they told us that the Back Lot tour was lots of fun and DD shouldn’t be too bothered by the noise. So we headed over there. We didn’t make it past the pre-show where they have volunteers demonstrate how movie stunts were filmed. That was cool but DD definitely did not like the explosions and gunfire despite her ear plugs. A CM took us around to the museum of the villains—ooh good ‘chicken exit’. We found some new pennies to squish and gave in and had DD’s digital picture cut into a background with the princesses. Got a 4x6 and 4 wallets.

The hunger pangs were clamoring for attention so we headed to the Backlot Express. First time for us, but it was air conditioned inside. It’s a winner. Not too crowded, good selection. Any place that has chicken nuggets like ‘Donalds is a good one. I had the sesame chicken salad with noodles. The noodles were a cold clump but the rest was tasty. Now we had a little plastic lunch box to hold DD’s collection of plastic swords and swizzle sticks. (Refer to Family Vacation—trip report in the DCL posts) After lunch we strolled up Commissary Lane to New York Street and over to Mickey Ave. That was our next Disney Magic Moment. We noticed a CM standing near an inconspicuous opening to our left. As we made eye contact, he invited us in to meet Mickey—that’s when I saw the placard indicating a greeting spot. Okay—so I’m not always the most observant person. My sharp-eyed DD makes up for Mommy’s failings.

It was dim and cool inside. It was Sorcerer Mickey! DD was so excited. It’s so neat how children never become jaded if it’s the second or tenth time they meet their favorite characters. Oh yeah, us adults too. DD was just in awe. She kept saying, “I never met Sorcerer Mickey—he does magic.” Just as we neared the front of the line, the CM told me we’d have to wait; Mickey was taking a break. Now DD is very easy going but I wasn’t too sure how she’d react since she was literally jigging with excitement. I told her Mickey needed a break and would be right back. The CM assured her he would only be ten minutes. She nodded seriously and said, “Mickey needs a drink and some cheese.” Spontaneous grins and laughs from the adults standing near us. I know I’m a bit partial, but I just love the way kids communicate. DD never fails to surprise me with her acute observations and how she relates to the world around her. It was only 10 minutes before Mickey returned. Mickey bowed to her as she approached and the DD received a hug and several kisses. She was in heaven. Her very favorite character in his role from Fantasia—also her favorite movie. It was just the best moment of the day.

Continued to stroll and ended up in a little shop just down from the Indiana Jones show. It had all the Indiana Jones paraphernalia but also cool little animatronic animals. There was an elephant, gorilla, and rhino (I think). I also found paper mache giraffes and elephants. I collect various animal carvings and models. While DD and Sis played with the animatronic stuff, I shopped. The CMs had no problems helping arrange shipping home for my items—the large standing giraffe, a hand made photo frame and a small statue of Bastet, feline goddess of joy and protector of women. Sis bought two animatronic elephants; one for DD and the other for Bro. As it was early afternoon, we headed back to OKW for a rest until our PS at Olivia’s Café.

Olivia’s café is one of our favorite restaurants. It has a laid back atmosphere and we love the revolving fans on the ceiling—very unique. Their mashed potatoes are delicious and they have huge crab cakes. Yummy! Replete after a grand meal, DD and I went to Hank’s Rentals to pick out a few movies. Bro, SIL and Sis headed to Epcot for Illuminations while I took off for DtD for some serious shopping. DMom and DDad decided to have a quiet night with DD and her movies. I had some special items to find in Downtown Disney—SIL wanted me to get the talking Stitch for DD, I wanted to find a bag to replace Bro’s still lost suitcase and a layette set for SIL’s sister who was expecting their first child at any moment.

The huge Toy Store was entrancing. I could have happily played at the Mr. Potato Head station for hours; but back to the mission—find Stitch, put eyes back in head after seeing the sticker price and head to the CM to check out. Neat, they have an automated keyboard in front of the line so you can choose to 1) take purchase with you 2) deliver to resort 3) ship to alternate destination. I chose ship home and in 2 minutes had shipping labels printed. How cool is that!? Now I don’t have to write my name and address twenty times on their shipping forms. Then it was off to the World of Disney. It was still light crowds as several parks were open late. Was able to find all I wanted, debated over a replacement bag for Bro and chose a medium RED duffle bag. I wanted a bag that would stand out. )

This is when I had my only bad experience at Disney. At check out, I gave the CM my id and AP for the 10 % discount. She rang everything up but forgot to give me the discount. When I pointed it out, she radioed for a manager as she said, “I think there is a way to fix this without returning the items and re-ringing the sale.” By this time it was getting busier as people arrived from the parks. Fifteen minutes later a floor manager arrives and tell the CM that she has to return all the items and re-ring the sale!! AACCKKK!! I could have been out of here 15 minutes ago if the CM had just done the correction. I didn’t get snarly but I wasn’t exactly a happy camper by this time. The CM pleaded ignorance and had the manager do the work. Sigh. I guess the CM was tired and wanted to go home too but geez, at least do the job right. I had to haul out id and AP again to show the manager. I grumbled on the way back to the buses but stopped to watch some toddlers play in the water fountain at the entrance. Watching the kids shriek and run through the water laughing just made my bad mood disappear. Ah, that Disney magic at work. Headed home with a light heart.

Sigh, tomorrow is our last full day and hopefully another magic filled one to tide us over until next trip.

Re: Family vacation-DCL and OKW continued from DCL TR

Day 8 – Epcot Adventures

Today we got up early as we had a PS for the Princess Breakfast in Norway. It was about 10 minutes by bus then we had to wait in line another 10 minutes before they would let us through the gates. I stopped for a stroller while everyone else went ahead. It’s fun to walk through a virtually deserted Epcot. A lot of families were rushing to get to Norway but it really doesn’t take very long when there aren’t any crowds.

DD was excited, on our last trip we had a wonderful experience at the Princess Breakfast—Cinderella was there! When the CM lead us back to our table, I became concerned as it was the last table in the far corner. I figured this was going to be a bust. Actually, it turned out to be the best. The door the Princess’ come out was right there. We were the first table they stopped at!! How cool was that!? Disney magical moment—yeah! We saw Princess Jasmine, Belle, Mulan, Princess Aurora, and Snow White. DD had her princess hat on and they each addressed her as princess and were very patient with having 5 cameras going off. The food was good but not as good as on our previous visit. Our CM was attentive but it was very busy this morning. All the mothers received carnations and there were various Mother Day photo ops set up through out Epcot.

After breakfast, we all split up. Bro, Sil and Sis wanted to do Test Track. 10 minute standby line—cool! M&D took off to look at the Flower Showcases. The rose garden was wonderfully aromatic. I adore the perfumed scent of roses. Ummmm….

DD and I headed over to the Land showcase. It was the first time we’d been there. We took the boat greenhouse ride. DD liked it so much we rode it twice. Then we met up with Bro, Sil and Sis at the Living Seas exhibit. DD had fun watching the fish and we got to see the dolphins this time. Bro and Sil split to check out Epcot while DD, Sis and I took off for the World Showcase.

I bought an Epcot passport for DD and she wanted to decorate a mask. We started in Canada. I have to admit, this was the first time we actually stopped and interacted with the CMs from each country and explored the exhibits. It was so much fun. I guess we’d by-passed before due to DD’s age and short attention span. I found darling pewter Christmas ornaments in Canada.

We found Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore in Britain as well as Mary Poppins. DD didn’t know what to do first; get her pictures and autographs or decorate her mask and get her passport stamped.

We had dessert in France. Found that little pastry shop I’ve heard so much about on the Passporter site. Yummy!! Couldn’t make up my mind; they had cream puffs at least 4 inches high and huge croissants—plain and chocolate filled and so much more. I settled for chocolate mousse cup and sis had a crème Brule(sp?). Sinfully delicious. Gotta indulge in dessert first occasionally—we’re on vacation after all! We saw Belle and the Beast. Belle remembered DD from breakfast and helped the Beast sign her autograph book. These personal touches make these experiences so memorable. I am running out of superlatives—where’s the thesaurus when you need one?

In Morocco we ran into Jasmine and Aladdin. Unfortunately, we had just missed Genie. Jasmine also recognized DD from the Princess Breakfast. It was too cool as she introduced DD to Aladdin and we got a great picture. DD was having fun decorating her mask, while we chatted with the CMs. I had really wanted to get a snack from here but was still too full from dessert.

At Japan, the Taiko Drummers were performing as we strolled into the shop. DD had to get a small parasol, purple of course. The drummers are so mesmerizing. I could watch all day marveling at their discipline and stamina. We spent some time in the shops—lots of fun stuff and it was air-conditioned! It was about 95 degrees so we were taking every opportunity to stay cool and ward off the heat.

We just missed the show at the American Adventure and it was too hot to wait around. DD was a bit antsy and really wanted to finish her mask so we moved on. Didn’t stay too long in Italy or Germany. DD was disappointed that both the miniature trains were off the tracks but she did have fun with the sound effects at each mini exhibit—esp the town fair with carousel.

Spent a lot of time in the Yong Feng Shangidian store in China. I picked out several silk hangings and other gifts there. DD got a wooden fan—it was so cute how the CM tried to show her how to flick it open but DD’s hand was too small.

Wandered in and out of Norway, we were all starting to droop by now. Onto Mexico--I was anticipating some good Mexican food. We had initially intended to eat at the outside café but the heat was too intense so we went into the Temple first.

We were intrigued by the Oa-x-acan wood carvings in the foyer. I loved the whimsical animal shapes and bright colors. I found a small winged horse I just had to have. DD wanted one too, luckily the artisan had a second on display in complimentary colors. When she wrapped them up, I was initially startled when she pulled the wings and tail off! She showed me that it was made that way to simplify wrapping etc. What a relief!

Entering the pavilion was like stepping into a different time. We rode the Rio del Tiempo twice as there was absolutely no wait. DD likes tame boat rides.

While DD and I browsed, Sis enquired at the San Angel Inn about the wait for a table. At first it was 20-30 minutes but suddenly a table was ready right away! Way cool. Dinner was very relaxed, we watched the boats float by and enjoyed our meals. DD was not impressed with her chicken dish so the CM cheerfully brought out chicken nuggets and fries instead. Can’t beat WDW for being child friendly. Leaving the pavilion, it was almost a shock to step back out in bright sunlight. We were almost convinced that it was evening!

We were toasted by this time—it was only about 5 pm but a long day in the sun. DD hopped into the stroller as we decided it was time to leave. About 10 seconds later, DD was out for the count. She never stirred when I picked her up out of the stroller, carried her to the bus stop, onto the bus and the 2 blocks back ‘home’; yet the moment I gently set her on the bed, she hops up raring to go again. Arrgh!

Now the sadness and melancholy set in as we realize this was the end of our last full day at the World. We kept busy packing and trying to stuff all our last moment purchases into our suitcases. Thank goodness for expandable bags!

Update on Bro’s case—still no idea of it’s whereabouts. The lost luggage department told him that after 2 weeks he could file a claim for the value of the case and its contents. Not very encouraging—I was so hoping it would show up while we were still here. A few last photos of our home away from home and it was off to bed. I was already planning our next trip!

Day 9—Homeward Bound

Sigh. It’s so hard to face this last morning. Finishing the last of the breakfast items, pouring out left over beverages and running the dishwasher so the next lucky occupant had clean dishes. One last check for overlooked items and it was time to meet our Bellman. We were whisked to the Hospitality House. Some last minute shopping and there’s Berkley right on time. Easy trip to MCO and we were dropped off at our respective airlines for curbside check-in. Met up inside and passed through security. Here they were very thorough, many passengers were asked to take off their shoes for additional scanning. DD and I had no problems but Dad and Sis had shoe checks. Time for a second breakfast at McD’s. DD just loves their hashbrowns. Then it was time to say goodbye as we each went to our gates. Four hours later we were home. Sigh.

Update on the wayward suitcase:

My Bro called me the Wednesday after we returned. Delta had found his bag!! Yippeee! It was in San Francisco, unclaimed on the baggage carousel. Delta shipped it to NY on the next flight that had room and Bro was able to pick up his suitcase from JFK on Friday. Now that is a happy ending!

I hope you have enjoyed our TR. I had fun sharing. Up next, a few last thoughts and hey, we are returing to the World in October!! Yea!!

Great report. Question was anything missing in the suitecase? This is my worst fear of my bag not getting to where it needs to be. Was he given money to buy clothes?

Re: Family vacation-DCL and OKW continued from DCL TR

No, the suitcase was still tied with one of those cable ties.

Bro was not offered any money to buy clothes. I guess the luggage pick-up area is a sort of grey zone, so no one offered any reimbursement.

I too have a fear of strangers getting into my luggage but alot of people I know never even lock their cases. Guess it has to do with comfort levels.
