| SleepingB\'s(with fam. and friends) Supercalifragilistic Summer Sojourn-Day 3 part 1 Well Friends The Dreaded Vacation Laundry is finished and although DH has had me on the Home Renovation Track-We've cleaned and organized every inch of our garage, turned a rusty garden cart into a lovely fountain garden, began painting the bedrooms and will pull up and put down carpet tomorrow-,I'm going to try to get my trip report in whenever I can sneak off.(Too much Trading Spaces and HGTV) CAST OF CHARACTERS The V 5 ME-Suzanne aka SleepingB DH-Mark will be 40 this month! DD#1- Kaitlin 12yo (almost 13 Mom!) DS- Cameron 8yo DD#2- Princess/Pirate Kyleen 4yo The E 3 DSis- Kelly- my sister DF- G-dad- my Dad DM- G-ma my Mom- They're celebrating 40 years of Magic!!! The E 5 DB- Rick DSIL- Sharrie Erik- 9yo Alyssa- 7yo Emily- 5yo Special Guest Stars- Appearing from time to time The F 5 Rob, Sandra, Kyle(13yo), Zach(10yo), & Jason (6yo) Okay does everyone have the scorecard straight? It was quite a group! We raised the standby time everytime we entered a queue!! Before we start, let me say that we were NOT going back to WDW this year. We had planned to maybe go to the mountains if anywhere at all. My Sister had other ideas. She called us one day in March and said she wanted to go to WDW and if I would plan everything She would pay for our share to go !! Well you don't have to ask us twice!!!! We changed destinations and let the planning begin. Whoo Hoo back to the House of Mouse! DBro and Family didn't think they would go, since they were just there in Nov., but as you see they changed their minds! Next our friend who live in St. Pete decided they would like to come and stay at WDW while we were there. Something they had never done!! And they've lived here how long??? 4 years??? Alright on with the show! THE DAYS BEFORE THE TRIP We headed down to my folks on Father's Day to celebrate and get ready to go. Mark and Cam had to come back for Cam's last two Bball games and I wanted to get there before late Tues. night. We made about 5 "This is the last trip" Wal-Mart excursions and all us girls sashayed our way down to the beauty shop to get our vacation hair. Clip, clip, color, color- we're now beautiful and ready to dazzle. At home we have a manicure and tanning party and spend alot of time laughing and drying. One of the main things I wanted to mention is to make sure people are aware of the weight restrictions for luggage. They didn't have it last year. This caused us to bring an extra suitcase. We were close enough to 50lbs(for each suitcase) that I didn't want to risk it. My brother had to redistribute his weight at the airport, so as not to pay a fine. He'd been flying mostly international where the weight limit is 70lbs. Carryons are not supposed to be more then 40lbs each. We are packed and ready. Mark and Cam get in about 10:45pm and everyone is finally in bed. Of course sleep is elusive as the excitement builds. "Mom, Kyleen whispers, We're really going to be at Disney World tomorrow. I'm sooooo excited!" So am I little one, so am I. DAY ONE- WED. 6/18 We're Leaving In The Dark?!?!?!? "Who Wants to go to WDW??" G-dad yells up the stairs. It's 4am and time to get up and get going. The van will pick us up at 5am. The kids are ready to go. Kyleen is a bit concerned because it looks like the middle of the night to her. "We're leaving in the Dark?? It's not morning time yet." I assure her that by the time the plane takes off it will be daytime outside. The van is a little early but surprise, surprise everyone is ready to go. All together, we have 13 pieces of luggage. Not too bad for 8 people!?! That also includes the stroller. Our driver was a great guy from New York and we had a quick drive to Will Rogers World Airport. They are doing construction and it is much easier to be picked up and dropped off. We unload our luggage, tip our driver, and do curbside check in. Then it is time to stand in line for security. We had to present our boarding passes and ID. We also had to remove all shoes. It took us about 20 to 30 minutes to clear security. They searched our big carry on. I forgot to put the razors in the suitcase. Mark asked the security guard if he should have checked them and he said no not really. They didn't confiscate them either. Go figure. All other carry-ons made it right through. We also had to show our ID and passes when we left security. We boarded our 7am flight to Atlanta and had to sit and wait 35 minutes for an equipment problem. Finally they got the water system up and running and we headed out on the first leg of the journey. Well that's all I've got time for tonight. I've got to get some sleep. Carpet and paint await me tomorrow. I'll try to write more tomorrow. | Re: SleepingB\'s(with fam. and friends) Supercalifragilistic Summer Sojourn-Day 3 part 1 Sorry it has taken me so long to get back. Cam's sports room is now finished and we were out of town for the fourth. I always forget how exhausting home renovation projects really are!!! Let's continue with our story! DAY ONE, PART 2 We made it to ATL just fine and I noticed that our flight number had been changed. So I called Tiffany to let them know. No problems with our flight to Orlando. Everyone is excited when we land that it is not raining! The first time in the last three trips. Next comes what my kids consider their first ride- the monorail over to baggage claim! Hey my kids are really easy to please! We head down the escalator and look for our name. Okay we are looking and looking and no one is waiting for us. We head over to the baggage carousel and Mom hands me the phone to call Tiffany and just then Jerry shows up. He was waiting at the baggage. He did not know that the flight number had been changed and had been trying to find information on the flight. I told him I had called, but the gal at Tiffanys had not let him know about the change. He was there however ready to go. We got our baggage and had it loaded and ready to go in about ten minutes. You can't beat that!! Off to POR we go! We chat on the way with our driver and the kids are counting down the moments until we cross the gate. 3, 2, 1 WHOO HOO we're at Disney World! POR looked just as beautiful as when we left it. We were unloaded and went to check-in. There was no one there but us. We got our rooms and for the first time they were in the area we had requested. We didn't have to have it changed. Maybe faxing really does help. It was the first time I had tried that. Of course, it could be because the resort is half closed also! But I prefer to look at the magic side of things! It took us a little less than an hour to land, get our luggage, get to the resort and check-in. Not bad. They also gave the kids activity books, Disney Adventures magazines, and crayons when we checked-in. This was new for us. Our room wasn't ready yet, so we decided to grab a bite at the food court. Mark and I had brought our mugs with us, but we were going to get the kids new ones this year. But when we saw the new travel mugs they had, we all ended up with a new mug. The kids split some fruit and pizzas and Mark and I split a Chicken salad sand. We spent about $20 (not counting the mugs.) We didn't want to eat too much because we've got Chef Mickey's tonight. I call the number the desk CM gave us and our room is ready. We mosey on over and call for our luggage. We've got a connecting room with G-ma, G-dad and Aunt Kelly. The E-5 are staying at the Poly. So are the F-5. They both tried to get into POR, but they waited too late. My brother had Karen watch for him for a cancellation, but we decided that they just might not be taking anymore people because of the renovations. The luggage takes less then 10 minutes to arrive and the iron and ironing board I called for arrive soon after. WE get unpacked, grab the backpack, the camera bag and head to the bus stop. Chef Mickey Dinner We take the bus to MK and since we have plenty of time, decide to take the monrail over to the Contemporary. I look longingly at MK knowing that we will be there tomorrow. Chef Mickey's is a hive of activity. We are waiting for the E5 to meet us for our PS. There they are! Hugs and kisses all around. I check us in and they take our picture at the big dinner plate. Next we wait for our little light to go off. We were seated by our PS time and we got a table by the window with the view of the Castle!Whoo Hoo! We just love Chef Mickey's, but we've never been for dinner. Something new! When you hug Mickey, you just know you're really there. The character meals are always interesting and a mad house. Adults have to balance eating with getting the pictures, videotaping, helping with autographs, and helping the little ones get food. It really is exhausting- but worth every single solitary moment. And I love the characters just as much as they do. The food was really delicious. Favorites among our group was the carved ham and prime rib, The parmesan mashed potatoes, the peel and eat shrimp and the mandarin carrots. The big winner was the chicken and gorgonzola penne pasta! Mmmm Mmmm! I also liked that they had the prime rib at different degrees of doneness. Now for the best part-Dessert!You had to try a little of everything- cheesecake with raspberries and blueberries, key lime pie, little cakes of various flavors, carrot cake(are you drooling yet?!?) and my personal favorite- chocolate mousse cake. They had these cute little Mickey faces stuck in on each one and I thought they would make a good souvenir for the kid's collage posters. OMG, that cute little Mickey is chocolate! It was very yummy! Well we finally had all the pics and autographs we needed and ate far more than we needed and we head over to the Poly. It takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to really experience all of Chef Mickey's for our large group. We had never been to the Poly before and enjoyed seeing the grounds and the room. We thread our way through the Ceremonial House and the girls pick up leis on the way. It seems were in the Luau traffic. Even though we told the CM we were not going to the Luau, She still gave the girls leis to wear. They were pretty happy. What alot of people. The E-5 stayed in Aotearoa. They had a balcony overlooking the grounds and a good view of the castle and fireworks. They also had alot of traffic at night due to the Luau. We sat on the balcony and planned when we would meet tomorrow at MK. Everyone has an itinerary that I had sent out. And even though my DBro refers to it as my "Disney Deathmarch", it is flexible and gives an outline to time we are there. Of course if I had the chance to spend as many days at Disney that they had this past year, I might be a bit more easy going too! DM, DF, and DSis head back to POR and the rest meet up with the F5 at the Ceremonial House. We make sure everyone knows what is going on and get the right cell phone numbers. The F5 are not early risers but assure me they will see us at Buzz in the morning. We head back to POR via the MK. By now Ky is asleep and Mark is carrying her as we didn't bring the stroller. Yikes, we know better then that! The wait for the bus seems long, but in reality it was probably not more then 10 mins. We are very tired and she is very heavy. Back at POR, our first thought is "AAHHHH peace and quiet!"We get our water bottles and snacks ready for tomorrow. Love that Britta bottle! Everyone is asleep in bed while visions of Mickey bars and MK dance through their heads. Chef Mickey's was the favorite part of the day. None of my five was overly impressed with the Poly. I know that the kids would love the pool and we liked having a balcony and the monorail. But we thought from what we could see, it wasn't worth the extra it would cost us. Which is good, because we'll probably never be able to afford it for more than one night. DAY 2- MAGIC KINGDOM and WL Don't you just love having Micky wake you up everyday!! Most mornings for us are the same at POR. Mark and I are up first to shower, get dressed, and eat breakfast. Then the kids hit the bathroom and eat and we gather up all the stuff and head for the bus. The E3 are waiting for us there after having breakfast at the Food Court. We were told to get into the Early Opening mornings, you would have to have ALL your room keys with you. We only had to show them once during the week at MGM. The building excitement waiting for the opening is always part of the whole experience. Once in, we were not diverted today by the characters, we were going straight to Buzz to defend the Universe. Does anyone else tear up as they walk down Main Street??? Everytime I go down this street I have to wipe a tear from my eye. The music, the sights, the smells. It is so magical and is tied up in many wonderful memories. This is my favorite time to do Buzz. We can do it three times in a row and hardly wait at all. Rick and Sharrie are the best at this in our family. They usually score over 300,000. I scored my best ever at 185,000.G-ma was hoping to do better since she could see this year and she did. Mom had cataract surgery last fall and for her it was like seeing WDW for the first time. She noticed lots of things that she hadn't before. She said it's alot easier to shoot at those targets when there are not three of each of them!!! And guess who was there that morning- the F-5! They made it! Stay tuned for the rest of DAY2- more MK and our first glimpse of WL. |

I'm interested to hear how it worked out with all of you going at once (we have 5, 2 and 5 going in October) and how that went, and your experience with POR (that's where we're staying - first time!). I love to read other people WDW stories. |
