| Bobmoues\' Sunny Safari Lodge at the Animal Kingdom Lodge ( completed) BobMouses Sunny Safari at Animal Kingdom Lodge DATE: September 7th thru the 15th ADVENTURER: Bobmouseșoș (38) RESORT: Animal Kingdom Lodge CELEBRATION: Had a great time at AKL last time and feel the need for more. AKA burning AP in my pocket. Day One- Travel and relax at resort A little pretrip report. I did laundry on Friday and packed my bags. I went though my packing list about three times. To make sure I had everything. I get about four hours sleep on Friday night and go to work at nine. Work sucked today, it could not go by any slower and a co-worker was gripping that he had to work on Sunday because I was going on vacation. I tell him I will think about him while I am in Florida and grin. He tells me to shut up. I get off work at three-thirty and go home. I wash my work clothes so I won’t have to do it when I get back. It is 3:30 am on Sunday and time to leave for the airport. I have been up since six-thirty yesterday morning. I was not able to get any sleep; I hope to get some on plane. I get to Executive Airport Parking at 4:45 and I am at Bradley International by five of five. I check in and go though security by five-ten. I had them hand check my film so that there is no problem with x-ray. Only one hour and fifty minutes before take off. We take off on time. I love take off; it is such a rush. The pilot says that we are cruising at 33,000 feet and I can see the surf braking and the coast. I sleep fitfully for an hour and half. I could not get comfortable. Just not enough legroom. We land at nine-thirty three. My Tiffany Town car driver, Marco, meets my at baggage claim. We grab my luggage and are in the car by ten. It is funny, I am going to Disney World and we talked about motorcycles for more than half the trip. We reach the Animal Kingdom Lodge by 10:30. I pay for ride and tip driver. I go to check in. The CM that checks my in is training and in the college program, like Tikibirds son. They check to see if there is a room ready and there is. I am upgraded from a standard room to a pool view room. It is room 3452 on the zebra trail. It is the first room on the spur that is half way up the trail. It is right next to the elevators. I did hear the elevator ding a couple of times in the night but not many. Of course I am so tired most night that I probably would not hear a greater kudu in the hall. I unpack and change into workout clothes. I go down to Zahanati fitness center to join and work out. It is $25 for a single length of stay membership, which I think is a good deal. I jump on a treadmill and run for five miles. After my run I go to the Mara and buy some fruit for lunch. I go for a swim after lunch. I am wearing my pedometer and forget to take it off at the pool. I did not notice it was gone for over an hour. By that time I had strolled around the pool area and had been in the hot tub. L So there will be no mileage reports at end of my days. After showering I go back to The Mara to get some pressed coins. Then I go to the Zawadi Marketplace and I buy some postcards. I send one to my mom and another to Debbie at Your Magical Tourneys. I decide to take the AKL hidden Mickey challenge. It took me about an hour and half to find them all. You go all over the resort, it’s a good way to tour it. I take it back to guest services to have it checked. I am unsure about one of them. Cast member said I got them all, but she only compares my answers to a list. She says my answers seemed to fit the lists. She does not really know where they are. Back in my room, I check the HM field guide and I do think I got the one wrong. It is just after 6:00 and I am rung out. I have been up for thirty-six hours. I go look for that HM and find it. I go to Boma for dinner at 6:45. Jamal is my waiter and he asks what I want to drink. Just water for me. I go up to the buffet and get a bowl of soup to start. It’s a curry seafood chowder, nice and not too spicy. Jamal recommends the Mulligatawny soup that is an apple and chicken soup with peppers and carrots in a cream broth. It is very good I have two bowls. I have some tossed salad, pasta salad, fruit and a PB&J club. That is a PB&J made with three pieces of bread. I then have a slice of prime rib that was cook medium rare and very tender. I help my self to some chicken that was dry and some Pap, which is made of cornmeal that was interesting. I also had a little couscous, grilled vegetables and macaroni&cheese. For dessert I had some cheesecake, fruit tart and a few zebra domes. Boy am I stuffed. I go back to my room and get ready for tomorrow. I am asleep by nine-thirty. My fisrt impression of the hotel was that I am in love agian. The best thing about my hotel was that it is so beautiful. The worst thing about it was that I did not have a savana view but can not complain about pool view. The amenities at the hotel were a great pool, fitness center, two fabulous restaurants and a very cool market place. At the hotel I tried the hidden Mickey chalange and the result was a very fun way to explore the resort. The most magical moment at resort was getting an up graded room. The weather today was mostly cloudy and humid. The best thing today was doing the Hidden Mickey Chalange. The worst thing today was not getting any sleep and lossing my pedometer. The funniest thing today was all the weird looks I got while looking for hidden Mickeys. Today I tried dinner at Boma and the result was terrific meal with a great waiter. The most magical moment today was walking into AKLs lobby. | Re: Bobmoues\' Sunny Safari Lodge at the Animal Kingdom Lodge ( completed) BobMouses’ Sunny Safari at Animal Kingdom Lodge DATE: September 7th thru the 15th ADVENTURER: Bobmouseșoș (38) RESORT: Animal Kingdom Lodge CELEBRATION: Had a great time at AKL last time and feel the need for more. AKA burning AP in my pocket. Day two- Animal Kingdom Mickey telling me there are big doings today wakes me up at five-thirty. I stretch and go to the fitness center for a 45-minute run on treadmill. Back to room and get ready for the park. Animal Kingdom is the magic hour park today so I go out to bus stop at seven-thirty and a bus is there by 7:35. It is cloudy and very warm today. After opening I am off to Kilimanjaro Safari. We had a great guide, he pointed out ton of animals. There were a lot of animals out and got a prefect view of lions. Chasing and catching some poachers cut our two-week safari a little short. I walk though the Pangani Forest Exposition Trail. I get some pictures of the bats, gorillas and meerkats. I bag my first autograph this trip. I get Flik over by the Tree of Life. I get my picture taken with Lilo&Stitch near Island Merchants. I stop to get some postcards there. I get Mickey and Tigger to sign cards to send to Dillon and Shane. Over to Dinoland, USA for breakfast at Donald’s Breakfastsourus. My server is Nancy, She pours my some juice and explains the buffet. I start out with a banana, some pineapple, crumb cake and a donut. I go back for another donut and a bagel. Then I have bacon, eggs, sausage and potatoes. In between trips to buffet I got Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Pluto to sign a postcard for Racheal and Dave. As I am eating it accurse to me that I did not pay for the postcards I got. So after breakfast I go back to store and explain to Cm what I did. He said it happens sometime. He rings them up with signature, addresses and postage on them already. I did not want that to loom over me and feel much better now. I go on Dinosaur after taking care of postcards. I never seem to be looking at the camera on this ride. So everyone is looking straight ahead and I’m looking to the right. J I am hot now so I decide to go on Kali River Rapid to get soaked. There was a girl on the ride that was crying. She was already soaked and I think she had just got off and was riding again with her family. She was not that young. I think she was scared of the drop in the ride, though it is not that big. Near the end of the ride there were people on the bridge manning the buttons to spray us. I wave as they get us. Now that I am cooled off I go to the Maharajah Jungle Trek. Get a few good pictures of the tigers taking a nap. I also find the HM in the mural on the trail. I take the train out to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. There are monkeys as you walk from the train and one of them in each cage has red hair. I ask the CM there if it was natural. He said no them dye it that way. He explains that she is the matriarch and it is easier to identify her that way since they all look alike. I asked if they seemed to mind and he said no they don’t seem to notice. Rafiki is out for pictures and autographs. I look at the exhibits and though the butter fly room was cool. The listening rooms are neat I gave one a try. I check out the petting area but did not go in. I go over to Camp Minnie-Mickey to get a picture with Mickey then go to see Pocahontas and her forest friends. Cute show but I think they could have done without that little weed. I am hot again so I head for Asia and Kali Rapids. I get soaked; no one was manning the buttons on the bridge this time. L I go to find a spot for Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle parade. I find a spot near the bridge leading to the exits. While waiting I watch the CM’s wrangle people out of the walkway. Cm’s also made sure latecomers didn’t just step in front of people that have been waiting a while. I think they have changed some of the puppets in the parade but not sure. I will compare my photos from last year to see. I leave park and go back to AKL to get ready for dinner at Jiko. When I get there they ask me if I wanted to sit at the counter where the cooks are. I did that last year so I ask to be sat at a table. The hostess asked if I was staying at the resort. She said she loved working here because the colors remind her of home in Africa and she felt less homesick. Nassar, my waiter comes over and asks if I would like something to drink. I shun the wine list and have water. I kind of wish that I liked wine with Jiko having a big African wine cellar. I start off with Crispy Cinnamon Spiced Beef rolls. Nassar said that in Africa they sprinkle it with cinnamon and sugar but here they put it inside. It comes with a vegetable banana sauce and small field greens salad. The bread and butter here are great. I order the Roasted Brentwood Corn Soup. The presentation is neat. It is served in a square bowl with the spinach, corn and herbs in bowl then your waiter pours the Scotch broth over it at your table. The soup was delicious. Nassar told me that was totally vegetarian. I drop my second knife of the night and Nassar tells me that in Africa it is considered to be good luck. I order the Oak-Grilled Filet Migon with macaroni and cheese and red sauce as my entrée. The mac&cheese is made with provolone, assegai and greaire cheeses It was very go although I have to say I would have liked the mac&cheese better if it was not in the sauce. The filet is placed on top of the mac&cheese in a bed of red wine sauce. Sauce was great with steak but definitely did not go with the pasta. Now for dessert, Nassar asks if I want to have an after dinner coffee. I decline then he asks if I would like some amaretto saying that it is good by its self. I decline not being a alcohol drinker. He mentions a story about amaretto. In Africa when the fruit falls from the tree it ferments on the ground from the rain and heat. Well the monkeys come and eat the fruit getting drunk and going crazy. I chose a sampler for dessert. It comes with ‘Jiko’ baklava, Tanzanian Chocolate candies, pistachio crème brulee, apple “galette” and Chocolate banana bread pudding. It is not cheap at $15 and would be plenty for two. The baklava is good I have had better. The Galette was a nice apple dessert with house vanilla ice cream. Bread pudding was very good, better than I thought it would be. Ice cream that came with it was a very light banana flavor. Crème Brulee was caramelized a little too much. The Tanzanian Chocolate Candies were terrific Dark chocolate filled beggars purses with white chocolate and orange dipping sauce, yummy. They had fig in them too, they were the high light of dessert. The Sous Chef came out and asked me about my meal and what I ordered for dessert. He came back as I was filling out comment card and asked if I had finished the dessert. I said no about half. He asked what I liked best; said the candies. He also gave me his card and said to call him before I came next time. You could come here and have appetizers and dessert and be satisfied. It was a great dining experience, why else would I spend an hour and half there. Back to my room to get ready for tomorrow and MGM Studios. The weather today started out cloudy then cleared. It was hot and humid too. The best thing today was Kilimanjaro Safari, a lot of animals and great guide. The worst thing today was forgeting to pay for poostcards. The funniest thing today was riding Kali River Rapids and watching others worry about getting wet. Today I tried Rafiki's Planet Watch adn the result was it was alright. I needed to spend more time there. The most magical moment today was getting charactors to sign postcards for farie godmailers. [ 09-18-2003, 06:14 PM: Message edited by: Bobmouseșoș ] |

| Re: Bobmoues\' Sunny Safari Lodge at the Animal Kingdom Lodge ( completed) What a wonderful report! This is such a treat for me. I am taking my parents to AKL in 3 weeks and we are going to have dinner at both Boma and Jiko. How lucky am I to have this report! Your writing style is so great!! You are also such an inspiration to me for fitting in exercise. This is something I really struggle with but I am going to follow your lead and make it part of my day (the FIRST part, otherwise it won't BE part of my day ) even though I'm on vacation. It allows you to feel great and eat those fabulous desserts without guilt! Well, I can't wait for more...sounds terrific so far. Thanks! |
