I had put in a 6:30am wake up call – so that I could be completely up, showered, dressed and out the door no later than 7:30 to be at Mk for early Magic Hour. Well – it almost worked that way. I was out the door at 7:40am and arrived at the front gates of MK 10 minutes after opening. I made a beeline for Space Mountain!!! I ended up in line behind two pre-teens and their mother – the girls had never been on the ride and were completely freaked about going…. They had the strangest ideas of what to expect. Somewhere they had the notion that SM put you in a 4 person bubble and flew you upside down….. hmm… I ended up in the back seat of the car in front of the girls, and as usual had a great time zipping through the cosmos! I hope the rehab on this waits until after we are there in January for the half marathon.
After a quick trip through the cosmos – I headed over to Buzz to flight Zurg one last time (until January at least). I like the new option of photos – although I always hate photos of me!!! Post Tomorrowland, I headed to Peter Pan’s flight – one of my absolute favorite rides – I love the scene of London from the air. After a zippy trip to Neverland – I headed to Splash Mountain and Big Thunder (yes again – I told you this was my favorite ride and I have missed it while it was down for rehab). I got the FP for BTMRR and headed to Splash. It was warmer today – but there was still not a line to be seen. I ended up in the middle seat of the log with a teenage girl and her grandfather behind me. The girl screamed in my left ear EVERY SINGLE TIME THE LOG DIPPED AT ALL!!! Needless to say – it sort of ruined my visit to the laughing place since she screamed throughout all the songs… and I was basically deaf in my left ear by the time I got off the ride. Not quite time for BTMRR yet – so I headed to Pirates. First time I have ridden this trip. I looked for the flag from the movie that Tiki saw – but never found it. I just got my DVD of Pirates and they do a “tour” of pirates at DL – it looks much longer and more detailed than Pirates in WDW – looks like I need to go to DL at some point…
By now I was a bit tired, since I had not eaten breakfast. I decided not to take another spin around the old mine – but headed for the gate since it was getting a wee bit crowded (on a Sunday – weird…) and head to EPCOT. I drove over, since I knew that I would be leaving directly from EPCOT to go home. I parked in Amaze, and walked to the entrance of EPCOT. I immediately went on Spaceship Earth. I realized here that I had forgotten my hidden mickey book – but I remembered there was a HM where the monk is sleeping… and this time I found it, without the book no less. I love this ride –especially the view of Earth from Space – how beautiful is that planet??
After SE – I walked back toward the World Showcase – starting with Canada, stopped to listen to Papa Noel tell about Canadian Christmas, and then walked over to Yorkshire Fish and Chips for some lunch. I ate lunch at the tables to the right of the shop, and enjoyed the sun and the view of the World Showcase Lagoon. After lunch I walked all the way up to Japan, saw the drummers, listened to the Fife and Drum Corps and considered going home… I was so tired and cranky, my feet were bothering me and I knew that I had an almost 3 hour drive home through post-holiday traffic. I called my sister and we chatted for a while. She asked me what I got my mother for Christmas. I told her and then she asked me if I had planned to get mom a nativity scene. My mother collects them and I had not thought about getting her one. So – I went in search. I looked in Mexico and Norway without any luck – so I went to Germany. I went to the Goebel shop and found a beautiful nativity for $2400 for all 16 pieces. Well – there is NO way I can afford to get her the whole thing – I got her the baby Jesus – and even had the piece signed by one of the Goebel artists. I asked him if there was a catalog with all the pieces – he said that there was not one that could be given away, but instead he gave me a pricelist for the entire set. So – my Christmas idea is that I will give mom one piece of her Goebel nativity each year for the next 15 years (unless of course I win the lottery).
After finishing with my expensive purchase in Germany, I headed off to Canada to see Off Kilter – I love these guys, rock music with a bagpipe kick – too cool. I ended up watching 2 shows back to back. Then I headed off to get in line for the Candlelight Processional. My feet and back were tired, and I wanted a spot in the front of the line. I think I stood there for about an hour talking with folks in line with me too. We entered the Garden Theatre at about 4:30pm for the 5:00pm show. All I can say about this show is that it is totally fantastic!!! The music and choir are awe-inspiring and Andy Garcia wasn’t bad either. After CP – I headed out, hopped in the car and headed to Jacksonville, through the post-holiday traffic – which amazingly was not bad at all. I was home by 8pm, in bed by 10 and at work Monday morning at 8:00am.
Well – there you have it – my weekend trip to de-stress before my medical exams and lots of work for 2 weeks before Christmas. Now - to plan for my January trip for the half marathon!
