| Re: Pre-Anniversary Trip April 17-22 (Day One, Part One- Getting There) Day One, Part One – April 17 Who: Me (Christine -31) – Nine Trips Husband (Joey – 34) – Eleven Trips Where: Wilderness Lodge (Concierge Level) When: April 17 – April 22 Both of us had to work on Friday so we knew it would be a long night. My nice boss let me leave early so that maybe I could take a nap before we left. Well when I got home I was too excited to sleep (remember that commercial, I loved it). My husband left work at 8:00pm. We left for the airport at 9:30pm and got there about 2 hours before our flight, which was at 11:45pm. The one good thing about the Vegas airport is the slot machines; at least you have something to do while you wait for your flight. I save all my change when I know I am going to fly. Now flying is one of my biggest fears but I do it because I need to go on vacation. However, I do need to be medicated. Right before we boarded I took a 10 valium. Normally this would put me out for the night but no I was awake the whole time. I did close my eyes but as soon as we hit a bumpy area I was wide awake. It was my first time flying Song Airlines. The seats are really really narrow but each seat has satellite TV that offers about 20 channels. Also there were two movies to rent for $5 each and they had a music trivia game that you played against the other people in the plane, this was pretty cool because it made the time go by fast and kept my mind off the whole flying thing. They do not have any complimentary food not even pretzels or peanuts. You have to pay for anything you want to eat. I think this is standard throughout the industry right now. They did come around one time with beverages. We landed on time at 7am. We went down to get our car from Alamo. We reserved an economy car; do not do this unless you want a mini. There was no way I was getting in that car so we upgraded to a mid-sized (brand new Grand Am) and opted for the additional insurance. Gosh, rental cars are expensive. It cost us an additional $200 before we left but we like to have the freedom to go where we want when we want. Finally we were on our way to the WL; now I still had not told my husband I had changed from the Pop Century to WL. I was busting at the seams to tell him. Fortunately I was able to keep it a surprise because when he drives he does not pay attention to signs, that’s what I’m for. We passed two signs directing us to the PC but he didn’t see them. We were finally at the main gate to the Magic Kingdom. (I just love entering Disney World, that’s when the magic starts). At this point he was a little confused. When we reached the booth I leaned over and told them we were checking into the WL. He looked at me and said what..really..what. He was in disbelief. Next up was the guard gate when we stopped he told them we were checking in. The smile on his face was a mile long but I still had one more surprise for him. I again leaned over and told her we where staying on the concierge level, and again he just looked at me. He could not believe I had done all of this and did not tell him. I think this was the biggest surprise I have ever given him. I was a great way to start our trip. Next Up: Endurance – How to do MGM when you have been awake for 28 hours. |
