Re: WDW With Hurricane Charley 8/8-8/15 - Days 4-6 ADDED : Feelings on Pop Century
Great report! I was so curious about Charley- we came home just in time...on July 30th...so we missed it. We were camping in a tent at FW, so we would have been evacuated to PO. I'm glad we weren't there, it sounds scary.
My son has Asperger's, too. You can read my loooooong trip report about our recent vacation if you'd like to hear more!

What?? You poor, unfortunate souls! We've had Sonic in Texas as long as I can remember. My mother talks about having it in our town when she was young. We LOVE Sonic!!!

I'm glad that you are all safe!! And enjoyed yourselves so thoroughly!!! Our next vacation to WDW will be our FIRST on-site and to hear you talk so highly of the experience makes me glad that we weren't talked into renting a condo. I really enjoyed your trip report!!

I know how you feel. I was ready to start planning our next trip before we were even home. We love Disney & it was the best time. I simply cannot wait to get back there. I start school the 31st or I would have been begging to go in Sept. I am so happy you are all safe & had a wonderful time!

Enjoyed your report with your experience with Hurricane Charley. We recently moved to the Tampa area so we were glad when it made that sharp right turn, although I am so sorry it threatened all of those in that path. We always thought Orlando was the one safe place.
Anyway, waiting for Charley to arrive was terrifying. This was our first hurricane and there was so much confusion about what to do -- do we board the windows or don't we? Since we are inland, most of our neighbors did not, although the Culligan man installing our water softener that morning freaked us out by telling us that our windows were definitely going to bust. I ran around the house picking up anything I thought was valuable. Freaked the cats out more than anything.
Anyway, sounds like you had some good support with more experienced ones calming your fears. We did have one neighbor that did that. Unfortunately, most of our neighborhood isn't finished yet so we didn't have a lot of support.
But, thankfully, Charley missed our whole area. We barely got any wind or rain. Going to Epcot this weekend. Curious to see if we will notice anything.
On our last trip to the MK (2 days before Charley) for dh's birthday, we experienced TimeKeeper for the first time and loved it! Hope they keep it around. We also rode Buzz for the first time and were happy that COP was open, too. We have been mostly skipping Tomorrowland on our recent visits and were we glad we stopped in. We had a blast!

Well, the buzz is out! We are officially trying to get a large contingency of our family together for a NOV 2005 trip! No matter what they do, we are in for sure.
I have 2 sisters - one has 2 kids (same ages as mine) and the other has all of her kids out of the house! The trip would be in May of 2005 but we have already planned a cruise (not Disney though).
Thank you all for your thoughts on my trip report.
One other major thing I wanted to add as a final thought was about season.
I will not go back in August again. It was not the crowds (although they were much worse than in May). It was the weather - and not the hot! It was the rain. I think that is pretty much par for Florida. Even though we felt very fashionable in our Mickey ponchos I prefer the trips I have had to WDW in May and November with May being the best.
I am sure I had another thought - but it has vanished - I guess I'll have to post again later!

We have them here in Pensacola, FL as well . . . I LOVE it!!! I get a burger, tater tots, a chocolate cream pie shake and a cherry limeade EVERYTIME!!!
Lyle, I am so glad you and your family came out of Charley unscathed, as so many things did not!!! It does sound like you had a great time despite the weather though and I'm glad you decided to share it with all of us Disney crazies!!!

Thanks for sharing your trip with us, I just caught up on it. We were at the WL 8-11 - 8-18. I agree with you about Illuminations. I was starting to think I was the only one who liked the older version better. I was also very surprised about the crowds. Every park had long waits. Someone said maybe it was because the schools were closed because of Hurricane Charley. Now that I have one child in college and the other one is a Junior in high school I'm looking forward to the day when we can go in May and avoid the summer crowds. We have always gone in the summer because of not wanting to take the kids out of school. Everyone seems to agree that May is one of the better months to go.

Thanks so much for your great report. It was interesting to read about what it was like during Hurricane Charley--I'm glad nobody was hurt, it sounds like. And I'm glad you all had a great trip anyway. (I liked the line about Charley maybe being a fan of Disney--I hope Frances is too!)
