Re: Two Birthday Girls, A big Ship and a Mouse or Two – pre-Trip Report UPDATE 9/6
I sure hope that she will head out into the Atlantic, far away from land!
On the bright side - my folks live in St. Thomas, and Jeanne went through there today - only tropical storm strength winds and rains. They weren't doing any significant damage there, and no need for evacuations. (My folks live right on the beach - you go out their back deck, and you are on the ocean!
Unfortunately, the Bahamas are supposed to get the worst of it - but after that, who knows!

Re: Two Birthday Girls, A big Ship and a Mouse or Two – pre-Trip Report
Hurricane Ivan rears his head again....
Well I had it all set - I was ready to go - I was not being deployed to assist with hurricane Ivan.... and then the phone rang this morning at work - I now have paperwork and I will leave Jacksonville on 4 October to head to Pensacola - the day after I return from the trip. They managed to arrange for me to work from Jacksonville this week (even getting some overtime) and next week a co-worker will assist with the issues in my absence.
I spent the weekend packing and getting the house ready. I have all the cash in the proper envelopes, clothes in the right bags, and "stuff" packed. Now all I need is to get Cheryl here on Friday night and then we are ready to roll. I ended up buying an extra battery for my new video camera - and am having it mailed 2nd day air -- $87 dollars. I looked all over town for one of the batteries without luck and finally had to buy directly from Panasonic. But it was either that or risk running out of battery power in the middle of Illuminations or Wishes...
So we are getting closer and closer. I won't think its real till be are in the car on Saturday morning, headed south down I-95....

Happy Sailing! May the waters be calm for you. OH and on the battery. Not that it helps you now but we have had good luck with a company out of NY called B&H this is their website www.bhphotovideo.com They have good prices and selections. We have purchased a camcorder and MIL has spent lots of$$$ with them. So maybe for next time anyway...I am enjoying your pre trip report and am looking forward to the trip. Bonvoyage, Tricia

We got a great rate of 167 a night - more than 50% less than the 336 a night we were going to have to pay at Boardwalk.... Yeah - extra spa treatment and Mickey bar money!!!
