| Re: Two birthday girls, a boat and a mouse or two Sept 29 - Day at Sea, part 2 Palo for dinner Palo is the adult only restaurant on the ship. You make a reservation when you board – and since there are 3 restaurants on the ship that you rotate through, on the 4th night you are repeating the first place you ate. We were originally scheduled to be on a 4 night cruise, so this would have worked wonderfully – however, since we ended up on a 3 night cruise we had to choose which night we would miss our regular restaurant… we opted for the last night of the cruise at Parrot Cay – the most casual of the restaurants. After our afternoon in the sun and shopping, we went to our cabin, showered, changed into our nice dress up clothes – and I discovered that my dress from Ward and Sherry’s wedding was even larger on me than I thought a few weeks earlier (or does this mean that I am even smaller than I was a few weeks ago?) – the strap kept falling off my shoulder. After dressing for dinner – we headed to the Walt Disney theatre to see the Disney Cruise Line’s signature show – “Disney Dreams”. “Disney Dreams” is the signature show of the Disney Cruise Line – it is about a young girl who doesn’t believe in wishes and dreams – and how she finds her belief with the help of Peter Pan, the Blue Fairy and a slew of Disney Characters. It was a wonderful show. In fact ALL of the shows were wonderful!!! After Disney Dreams, we headed straight to the elevators to desk 9 (you think I am walking up 5 flights of stairs in heels??? WRONG), and aft to Palo. We had a 730 reservation, and we were seated within 10 minutes of getting there. We had a table for 2 on the starboard side of the ship, with large windows all around. If the sun was out – or setting – this would have been a beautiful view!! Cheryl all prettied up for Palo I would say I clean up pretty well!! Celia from Argentina was our server – and she was FABULOUS!! We started with an antipasto and warm savory bread with a garlic mayonnaise, a primavera sauce and a chopped olive spread. The antipasto included priscuto, olives and other things that completely elude me more than a month later. Additionally, we both ordered the spicy shrimp appetizer. All of it was WONDERFUL!!! FYI – this was just the antipasto and appetizer plate. Dinner is yet to arrive. This is the table after antipasto and appetizer For dinner – Cheryl ordered the Shrimp Scambi Stuffed Chicken, while I had the Filet mignon. I must say that is probably the best filet I have ever had!!! Chicken Stuffed w/Shrimp Scampi My filet mignon and asparagus In addition to the main course that we ordered – Celia felt that we needed to try the special for the night and brought us a serving of the fresh sausage lasagna. After our main courses – we ordered dessert. Palo is famous for it’s chocolate soufflé with chocolate and vanilla sauce, so we both decided to partake of that. The famous Palo Chocolate Souffle This is what you look like after finishing the chocolate soufflé!!! Pure chocolate ecstasy. In addition to our soufflés – Celia said we needed to have a panna cotta with fresh berries as a palate cleanser after chocolate overload…. This is a photo of Cheryl, Celia and I after our meal!!! Our dinner lasted 2 ½ hours!!! And the weird thing was – it was so relaxing and enjoyable – neither of us noticed the time, until we had to fly back to the cabin to get our bags packed and in the hallway by 11pm!!! If you ever get the opportunity to eat at Palo – please do. It is very worth it, When we returned to our cabin – we found another towel animal – this time a bunny rabbit (I think). We got our bags packed, out into the hall – and called for lights out in preparation of tomorrow morning’s arrival to Port Canaveral. |
