| Re: Steve and Sue take the Convertible to Disney...and have a Magical Adventure!: Day 1 is done! We did MNSSHP last October and had a great time. I had no idea about the headless horseman and thought it was a great touch for a spooky evening. We didn't get to do the boat last year but I'm hoping they do something special on it for MVMCP in December. Thanks for sharing your TR. |

| Re: Steve and Sue take the Convertible to Disney.. Who: Steve, 46, and Sue, 44, 11th trip to WDW When: 9/30 till 10/10 Where: Old Key West/Hilton Head Why: We own the perfect Florida car now, so LET'S GO! Day 3... Monday morning dawned hot and sunny. Hmmm...is this a sign or what? It was probably already snowing back home. I slathered on suntan lotion and put on a pair of shorts and felt really sorry for them in PA. We were a little slow this morning, as it had been a somewhat late night (for us) the night before. (We're up there in age, you know! ) We left the room at about 8:40. Uh oh..this was not going to leave us enough time to catch rope drop. Well, we got on the bus, did the usual loop of bus stops and got to MK at, oh, about 9:05. Missed it by that much! Oh well, the week is young! We were off to Main Street Bakery agian for breakfast, coffee, yogurt and fruit, and Steve had a bagel and melon. ![]() After eating, we headed over to TomorrowLand. We did Buzz Lightyear and I beat Steve! Of course, we had to do it again right after that so that he could at least win one time! There was literally no line, so we walked right on again. After that, it was off to SM and...and...and...Carousel of Progress!! It was open!! We got in right away, which sort of depressed me, because I was really enjoying the pre-show which talked about Walt Disney designing this for the 1964 World's Fair. I had orginally seen this in NY, along with It's a Small World at the fair. The show was cute, even though we got stuck in the preview scene twice. I really love this and hope it never ever closes for good. After COP, we decided it was time to try something new: TomorrowLand Indy Speedway! A silly ride, I know, but we have never done this! So off we went. I let Steve drive (big mistake) as he couldn't keep the car on the road. Must have been all those drinks at the Poly last night! It was alot of fun, and no, we weren't the only adults there! Another first for us! We rode TTA after that, and then headed back up Main Street. We were going to hop over to Epcot for the afternoon. We grabbed the momrail to the TTC and then transferred to the Epcot monorail. we asked for a front seat, and since no one else was waiting, got it right away. Right after we got on, a family of four tried to push their way in to the front car in front of 2 young men. The CM stopped them and said they needed to ask before they got in the front as the sign said. They got a little rude, and she politely explained that they could either wait for the next monrail, or ride in the regular cars. They opted for the regular cars, and the two young men boarded with us. I will never for the life of me understand why people have to be rude and pushy. It really gets you nowhere, and what kind of lesson did that father teach his children? The two young men with us looked like they stepped off a recent music video with their dark clothes and earrings, but I have learned to never judge a book by it's cover. They were two of the most polite young gentlemen we met our entire trip! We were all joking with the driver, who wouldn't tell us where he was from, as he was in the witness protection program and he couldn't be sure that any of us weren't agents! We had a great ride, and were soon at Epcot. We decided to forego most of FutureWorld in favor of the F & W festival. This was another first..we have never been here for this festival! We started in Florida (the booth, of course, we were already in the state) where Steve had an orange tartlet and I had a shrimp salad sandwich. Well, it got even better from there! We had beef stroganoff, baked ziti, pierogies and sausage, potato pancakes, creme brulee, and beer!! We tried Labatt's, a beer we had never tried before. It was good! As we walked past France, a woman asked us if we would like to try free wine. Free wine? Sure! Sounds good to me! Well, it was a wine tasting! We tried three white wines, 2 Chablis and a Chardonnay, 2 from France and one from California. Now I am not a wine connoisuer by any stretch of the imagination (more of an Arbor Mist girl, myself) but this was really really cool! We have never done this type of wine tasting, another first! We walked a little more but decided we were really stuffed, so we would head back to the room. We had a big night ahead of us and wanted to be well rested. We grabbed the bus and were back at OKW in no time. We relaxed for a while, and Steve made us Lemonade Smoothies. (Yes, we had dragged our Smoothie machine down with us from PA, and we intended to make good use of it! They were great!) We relaxed, showered and changed and were soon off to dinner. Tonight's epicurian delight was the Yachtsman Steakhouse. I cannot sing the praises of this place enough. We had a 6 PM PS, and we drove over. We were getting a little more adept at finding our way by car, and with only one wrong turn ("Honey, that sign said 'Service Vehicles Only', I don't think we wanted to turn here...") we were at YC. This resort is on our must-do list. It is so beautiful! In Oct. 2002, when we were at BC, we were riding the bus back from DD and had a group of, pardon the expression, tourists, behind us. When the bus pulled into YC, they were all impressed by the beautiful resort, and one of them(the loudest in the group) said that it was called Yacht Club because when people arrived at WDW by yacht, this gave them a place to park their yachts. He was dead serious!!! Everyone in his group said "Ohhh..." and not one of them thought that maybe, just maybe, WDW was landlocked??? I can only hope that they never question too deeply the horse theme at SSR! Anyway, this has become a standing joke for us, as we always look all over for the "yachts". We arrived for our PS and were seated almost immediately. I learned my lesson from my last dinner here: NO APPETIZER!! They are wonderful, but filling! I ordered just my meal, Filet Mignon, with a side of Creamed Spinach. Steve got the Ribeye. OMG!! They were SOOO good! I can taste it now. I forgot to ask for my DVC discount, though! Oh well, it was a great meal in a beautiful place anyway. After dinner it was off for a stroll down the boardwalk to the boathouse for...our Illuminations cruise!!Yes, we got one! Steve and Sandy (whoSEZ) have nicknamed me the "Cruise Queen" (personally, I prefer just "Queen" ). I had a window of 4 days to get one, and nailed this one on the first try the first day! How cool is that? Fast fingers or something, I don't know. we were sharing the cruise with Ryan (RyanC) and his wife, Amy, and Mario (Leah's Dad), his wife Liz and of course, Leah. I had been trying to get in touch with Kelly (goofy4goofy) for 2 days but her cell phone wasn't working! I knew she had Mondays off, and was trying to get her and Alex to join us on the cruise. We didn't connect (until later) so it was the 7 of us. The weirdest part about any type of Internet meet is that most times you have no idea who you are meeting with. I saw a young couple sitting there, and figured I would go introduce myself. Thank goodness it turned out to be Ryan and Amy! I would have been really embarrassed if it had been two people just resting on a bench! Then I saw a man, a woman and a little girl approaching. Had to be...OK, thank goodness, this was Mario, his wife, Liz and his daughter, Leah!! So we were all set! Leah is just a doll, her pictures don't do her justice! She was sweet, polite and full of energy! She gave me a flower which I dried for my scrapbook. I went over to the boathouse to secure our reservation, and in talking to the CM behind the counter, found out we had Captain Scott again! He was the one we had last year, and he was really great! We got everything squared away, got a life vest for Leah and we were off! Scott was his usual happy self, despite the fact that his fiancee and her daughter had suffered a heavy loss during I believe it was Frances. He works 2 jobs, Parks supervisor by day and CM by night so that his fiancee does not have to work full time and can be home with her daughter (who is only 6.) He manages 14 different parks, and they all took a heavy beating in the various hurricanes. This is what was the most difficult for us, seeing the faces behind the damage. I said this before, but it is a whole different world when you see the people who were affected by the storm as opposed to just watching it on CNN. He and his fiancee were supposed to get marrried in April 2005, but most of the money they had saved went to replacement things for her and her daughter. Kinda gives you a different view of storms. We cruised the lagoon for awhile, and soon Leah was...sleepy... ! Liz took her to the back of the boat where she could stretch out and doze if she wanted to! Soon we were in position for...my favorite nighttime show! Of course, seeing it from here is an amazing view point. We filmed the whole thing, and I used my new camera to get some pretty awesome still shots. We had a wonderful time! After the cruise, we headed back to the dock and said our goodbyes. I love Passporter meets..it's so great to put names to the people we talk to all the time! Ryan, Amy, Mario, Liz and Leah, it was wonderful sharing the cruise with you! We headed over to JellyRolls for a little nighttime entertainment. Another first! We had passed here many times and never stopped in! We paid the $7.00 cover and found a table in the back. The 2 piano players (well, 4, but 2 at a time) were great!! Steve was drinking beer, and I was drinking Margaritas. You could get all the free popcorn you wanted, and it was good, spicy with a cayenne pepper taste Spicy enough to make you buy many more drinks! We stayed there for almost 2 hours, we had so much fun! Then we decided to call it a night, and walked back to our car. I drove (he had more beers than I had margaritas) and soon we were back in our comfy villa. It had been another magical, incredible day!Next....SSR, Bahama Breeze and relaxing in the not-so-hot tub! |
