our trip 11/20 to 11/27 (part 1)

flew on Southwest and it worked out great. Tiffany TC met us at the airport and the private van was wonderful. Stopped at Publix and got snacks and drinks. Stayed at POFQ. IT's beautiful. It's peaceful, elegant and I felt like I was home. The Christmas decorations were "understated" which made them lovely. We arrived around 11:30 and a porter took our luggage and bags to the luggage storage. We were able to get to our rooms right away and then called for the luggage. It only took about 10 minues for them to bring it. Check in was a little slow, but I expected that. We stayed in Bldg 6 on the first floor with a river view. We had connecting rooms and the second room didn't have a fridge so we called housekeeping and in less that 15 minutes, we had one. I love the fact that there was a curtain to close to separate the bathroom/dressing area from the bedroom. It made the room bigger somehow. Decor was wonderful, but I wish the beds were queens and not doubles. Spent the rest of the time unpacking and then went on the boat to Downtown Disney. Walked around DD and wasn't too impressed. We ate at Capt. Jack's and the food was more pricey for the meals than it was worth. Didn't get to do DisneyQuest, but will on next trip.
Went to Seaworld on Sunday and it was great. My youngest son's (13) favorite park. Don't miss the Pirate Sea Otter Show...and get there early enough to see the mime...
The food court at POFQ worked out really well. Not as much selection as POR, but not crowded at all and the food was really good. Most times I skipped the fries and it was almost $2 cheaper...
First park was Animal Kingdom. Went on the Safari and got to see some animals, but the driver only slowed down, didn't really stop so it was hard to get great pictures. The wait was about 50 minutes, but it was partly sunny so it wasn't too hot. Walked through Pangani Trail, but it was really crowded. Tough to be a Bug was next. Great show and funny. Grabbed FP for Dinosaur while others waiting in line. Had some lunch and then went to Dinosaur. Another great ride. FP works great if you can get decent times. Last stop was Festival of the Lion King. Wonderful... Oh yes, when you are waiting in line for Tough to be a Bug, make sure you study the tRee of lIfe that you walk through...it's great! From AK, went to outlet stores offsite.
ATe at Boatwrights at POR...great food, great atmosphere, and worth a trip to the resort for the restaurant, even if you aren't staying there. Three of us went to MK to see Wishes and Spectromagic...it was wonderful and Tinkerbell was fantastic. Just seeing the castle live for the first time is an emotional experience.
Tuesday was the day for MGM...made the mistake of letting people sleep in and got to the park around 11 am. Way too late for anything. It was really crowded, in fact, we went there twice and both times it was the most crowded park. It was an hour wait for Tower of Terror and FP was already at 2:30. 90 minute wait for Rock and Roller Coaster and FP was around 4:00. Since we had PS for Fantasmic/Mama Melrose, that time wouldn't work for us at all. DH was really disappointed and let it get to him for quite a while. Did Indiana Jones Spectacular and it was alot of fun. Standby wait wasn't long at all and didn't need to waste a FP for it since the theater seats so many people. Next was a FP for Star Tours. Studio BAcklot tour was a 20 minute standby wait so we did that next. It was a good ride and we enjoyed it. Especially Catastrophe Canyon. The FP for Star Tours was great. ANyone else feel guilty when you use them? The ride was fun except we lost sound around 2/3 of the way through. People were making sound effect noises and that became really funny. We rode it again without having to get off, so it was okay. Went to Mama Melrose and wasn't that impressed. More details about that in the Eating section. FAntasmic was fantastic. Except for the distance you have to walk with the package...my mom is 74 and it was quite a ways to walk for the back entrance. Not sure I would do the package again, based on the number of seats available, but loved the water effects. Dh and I stayed while everyone else went back to POFQ. Went on both Tower of Terror, not as scary as I thought, and Rock and Roller Coaster...WOW what a ride...then went to the Osbourne Spectacle. I felt like a kid again seeing it. It was beautiful and it was "snowing." Went back and dh and young ds went swimming to end the evening.
