Racing the Duck - Finished - 1/27

Half Marathon Trip Report =
Jan 8-11, 2005

Cast of Characters –
Terri (34) Jacksonville, FL Disney nut and half marathon runner - 24th trip to WDW
Cheryl (28) Reston, VA Co-Disney nut and half marathon runner - 10th trip to WDW (if I am counting correctly)

Other appearances by:
Denise (wdwlovers) and her husband Jason
Sarah (Dopeygirl) and daughter Emilie
Vicky (Stretch2864) and family

Plans:

Friday – January 7, 2005
Cheryl’s flight from Baltimore arrives at JAX at 10pm
Head to Terri’s BF ( saying that) house for the night

Saturday – January 8
Up early, little breakfast
Goodbyes
730 - Head to my personal trainer for Cheryl to redo her bodpod and see if her efforts since September to get fit have paid off
Immediately after that – head to WDW
Before 1130 – arrive WDW
Check into WL – Courtyard view
Go to Runners Expo at Wide World of Sports to pick up our race packets
Go to Shades of Green to buy Terri and Scott’s seasonal passes (which are now cheaper than a 3 day parkhopper!!!!) for the upcoming trip in February.
Back to the resort or DTD or other resorts.
No parks today – rest feet as much as possible (yeah right)
Dinner – 740pm PS at ‘Ohana to see fireworks over the lagoon (first time for Cheryl – lots of ‘Ohana, no fireworks)
Back to WL< lay out running gear for am and get to bed early!!!

Sunday – January 9
Up way way way too early – around 300 or 330am
Get dressed, get all running gear together
Catch bus to EPCOT for beginning of race
Meet up with other friends running the marathon and half marathon
600am - Line up with and start the race with the marathoners - since Cheryl and I registered for the full, but both have switched to the half – Disney does not officially switch you – they just tell you to turn off at the half finish.
Finish the race no later than 930am at the TTC parking lot
Catch monorail to MK, transfer to WL boat
Showers, clean up, etc and head to EPCOT to walk off some lactic acid!!!
Lunch - possibly at Beaches and cream (this wold be new for us)
Dinner – Yachtsman Steakhouse – new for both of us
730 – meet Denise and everyone at the YC Marina for the Illuminations Cruise!!!

Monday – January 10
MK day
1230pm Lunch at Plaza Restaurant – new for both of us
400pm – head to MGM for Mama Melrose’s Fantasmic dinner package (430) followed by TOT, RNR and Fantasmic!!! (MM’s is new for us)

Tuesday – January 11
910am Breakfast at 1900 Park Fare – new character meal for both of us
Not sure what we are doing today – maybe AK since we sort of missed FOLK last time cause of the surprise behind the scenes tour…
300pm – Be on the road to the airport – Cheryl’s flight leaves at 5pm
Terri arrives in Jacksonville no later than 600pm.

Re: Racing the Duck - Half Marathon wkd = pretrip

good luck! I've been checking the 10 day weather predictions and it looks like we are going to have a good day for the race. If they are right, the start will be mid to high 50s and I'm hoping that it won't change much over the next hour and 45 minutes. The predicted high is 75, but I think we'll still be good in the morning. My biggest problem now is that I've been training in really cold upstate NY weather!! How will I do in the "heat"?

Hope to see you there...

Re: Racing the Duck - Half Marathon wkd = pretrip

Kim has inspired me to write a bit more - and this time I will go over our budget for the weekend.

Cheryl is flying in to JAX from BWI on Southwest - free Rapid Rewards - $0.00
Terri is driving her car to WDW from Jacksonville with Cheryl as passenger - $15.00 one way - and Cheryl will pay $15.00 for return trip to JAX.
Tolls on 417 each way - $5.00 (total $10.00)
Resort - Wilderness Lodge - $150 a night for 3 nights - 450.00 (225 each).
Park Passes - Cheryl bought a 4 day park hopper before the new system went into place ~200.00; Terri - Seasonal pass is still good - until the day I leave!!! HOWEVER - I will be buying my new voucher and Scott's on Saturday for our February trip ($200.00 each - which is now cheaper than a 3 day parkhopper!!!)
Food -
Saturday -
Breakfast - who knows - junk on the highway probably - after the gym of course - $5.00 each
Lunch - Not sure on this one - somewhere on property
Dinner - 'OHana - $25.00 each after DDE discount, tax and tip

Sunday -
Race morning breakfast - granola bars, bread, peanut butter, jelly and bottled water in the room.
Lunch - Beaches and Cream we hope - $15.00
Dinner - Yachtsman Steakhouse (thank heavens for DDE - ouch)
Illuminations Cruise - $20 each (including tip)

Monday -
Breakfast - MK bakery!!!
Lunch - Plaza Restaurant
Dinner - Mama Melroses Fantasmic Package

Tuesday -
1900 Park Fare breakfast - $18.00/ea before DDE, tax, tip
Lunch - somewhere in a park or DTD. $12.00

I have $300.00 in cash - that is just for food and stuff - usually works out with me coming home with a few extra bucks. Which I better this time since I have the Scott trip in a month and Disneyland 3 weeks after than. Good thing I start teaching the Saturday after I get back from DL - I will NEED that $$!!
