| Re: The Half Marathon Comeback Run-Day 3B(1/17) Thanks for your congrats, its funny that what is fast and awesome to some is slow and pokey to others. I think I ran fast, but the winner finished aobut 40 minutes faster than I did, so when I was back at mile 8, the winner crossed the line. And then to think that there were other runners out there for 2 hours after me. Those are the people who should be congratulated, not me. The rest of the story... I cross the finish line, they take my timing chip, I get my mylar blanket and my Donald. I get to the goodies table and get a water and then see the coke. Oh my God! I'd kill for a coke! I ask the guy for a coke and drink it right there like Mean Joe Green did in that ad a long time ago, all at once and with a might belch at the end (except he didn't burp). I don't see Mark or Parents so I head over to the family reunion tent for our name and they aren't there either. I wait quite awhile, chat with the volunteers. Its basically me and 8 volunteers who are probably so glad to have somebody else to talk to that I'm getting loads of attention. After about 20 minutes, one volunteer lets me use her phone. Let me preface this next section with a some background. Not once in my husband's life when he has had a cell phone on him and I'm really looking for him has he actually answered the phone. He doesn't have a phone himself, so he uses mine in these situations and either does not hear it ring, does not feel it vibrate or can't figure out where on his person the phone has wandered to. I tell the volunteer this and she still lets me use the phone to try Mark 6, that's right, 6 times. Idecide to walk over to the grandstands at the finish line thinking that maybe they didn't see me and are still waiting. Its a long walk, but its good for me. When I get there I figure the best way to look at grandstands is from the back at people's feet. See, my dad wears tevas with socks. Not cool hippy socks either, he wears white calf height tube socks. With his tevas. And his fishing hat. You can't miss him. I search all the feet and don't see any tevas with socks so I go back to the family reunion tent. After another 10 minutes of waiting Mark shows up and boy is he pissed. He arrived in plenty of time, parked in a close spot to TTC and was then told to get on this bus and then the monorail and then go to GF and get off and walk to the finish line. But the finish line was in the TTC parking lot. He knew the directions were wrong, but he and whole bus load of people did the same thing. He was so angry, one because he sat on a bus knowing he shouldn't be there, two because he missed the finish, and three he had walk 3 miles and was really sweaty. Mom and Dad did the same, but were smarter and went straight to breakfast rather than do that walking. Since then, I've heard many other grumblings that things didn't go well for some runners and spectators. I had a great time and no problems so I can't really say. Our plan was Chef Mickeys after the race and I had a PS for 8:40. We would make it, but it was going to be close. We hopped a monorail to CR and met Mom and Dad right outside of Chef Mickey's. They took our picture, a good one that I bought, and were seated right away. Mark brough a bag of clothes for me, so I headed down stairs to the restroom to change. Whose idea of a joke is it to put the restroom down stairs? Seriously, I can't get down those things right now, my legs are on fire! My quads burn and you want me to go down some stairs? I made it okay, Cleaned up with my handy dandy baby wipes (really, they make you smell better and get alot of sweat off, I highly recommend them when you can't shower but should clean up) and changed into clean clothes. Now onto the food. It was a whirlwind of eating, I filled my plate 3 times that I can remember and I got a surprise cupcake from our most excellent waitress who get my water and diet coke filled to the brim. Everyone stopped by and congratulated me, Chip and Dale especially. Chip "asked" Mark if he ran the race and Mark said no, he doesn't do that kind thing. Then Chip poked him in the belly like he was getting too fat. I thought I would pass out from laughing so hard. Chip just told my husband he was fat!! I love it! We finished breakfast, monorailed back to TTC, found our cars, cheered for those still running and headed back to the hotel to change. We agreed to meet at MGM around 11. I probably should have taken a nap, but I really wanted to ride RRC and TOT so I took my shower, put on my new pink corduroy mini skirt ($9 at JCrew, gotta love the outlet mall) and my flip flops and I slowly hobbled out to the car. At this point everyone walking is like a speed demon, slow down! I can't keep up! Even Mark forgets and leaves me behind. We see more runners on the way into MGM, I roll down the windows and cheer, its just before 11 and these guys have about 4 more miles to go. Its hot now and I don't know how that guy in the black turtleneck is doing it. We park and catch the tram, calling Mom and Dad. They are on their way, so we head into TOT and RRC before coming back to meet them. I love these rides. We didn't get the good creepy CM at TOT but we didn't wait in line either and had really awesome drop sequence. There was a little girl in our car and at the pause just before you drop (feels like an eternity, doesn't it) she goes "uh-oh" in cute little girl voice. Hysterical! After the ride, we meet Mom and Dad. Mom and Dad and I decide to see Beauty and the Beast show ( I really need to sit down!) but Mark can't stand this show so he goes back on RRC and TOT. I give him the phone so we can meet when its over. What do you think happens? Good guess. We get out of Beauty and the Beast and he isn't there. I call. He doesn't answer. We wait because he might be on the ride right then. I call again. No answer. Honestly, why do I bother. 15 minutes later he strolls over. "no, I didn't hear or feel the phone, I don't think it rang". Check the phone, 5 missed calls. "Oh". Dork. We spend the afternoon going to Indiana Jones, Muppets, Backlot Tour, and more TOT and RRC. Then its time to head over to Epcot. |

| Re: The Half Marathon Comeback Run-Day 3B(1/17) Michelle, I sent you a PM about our tuesday night running group. I didn't place in my age group but did pretty well. I was the 318th finisher out of 8700 or so, the 85th woman out of 4500 or so, and 18th in my age group out of about 1000. That needs to be put in perspective though. Disney does not attract the number of elite runners that many large races do and does attract alot of first timers and walkers. Therefore I end up placing better than I normally would in a field this large because the has a much slower average pace than is typical. |
