| My surprise Valentine\'s Day weekend Disney getaway!!! This past weekend was the best weekend I have ever had. For Valentine's Day, my boyfriend, Chris, told me he was planning a surprise for me. A couple days before we went out to lunch and he gave my some new earrings. He also told me we were going to Disney and staying at the Pop Century! Now, we live in Daytona Beach and go to Disney all the time, but we rarely ever stay on property. I thought this would be a blast, and to top it off he then tells me that he has another surprise for me but I'll have to wait until Sunday to find out what it is. Needless to say, I bugged him all week to try and get him to tell me, but had no luck. On Saturday morning we woke up a little late and arrived at Disney around 1:30pm. We decided to try and check in, and they told us that there was a 30 minute wait at the check in desk. Luckily, they were wrong and we only waited about 10 minutes to get our room key. I really like the decorations they have at the Pop Century, and it was fun to look at the boards in the check in area that have items from each century. We parked our car and trekked over to the 60's building where we were on the first floor facing the Hippy Dippy Pool. The walk was a little bit of a pain, but I really liked our room location. I'd probably stay in that same building again, or maybe try the 50's building instead. Next we drove over to Epcot where we rode Test Track first. Unfortunately, as soon as we sat down the ride had technical difficulties. We spent the time talking to a family from England and tried to help assure the little girl with them that the ride was not very fast or dangerous (she was in tears). Finally, we got moving after about 20 minutes, but broke down again near the 2nd brake testing area. Another 20 minutes got us moving again, until we stopped again just before the barrier test. Luckily we didn't stop on the outside track, and when we got back to the load point, the attendant let us ride through again (this time with no problems). We didn't feel like riding much else in Epcot at the time, so we drove around to the ESPN club to get dinner. We played some games for a little bit before getting in line for a table. Unfortunately we couldn't eat in the main room because a NY Yankees pitcher was there and it was packed with fans. We sat in the bar area instead but found the food to be only semi-good. With a stop at Downtown Disney (incredibly crowded there!) before ending the evening, it was a pretty good day. Back at the hotel Chris and I got dessert in the food court and took it back to the room where we watched some TV. We were too tired to go to any other parks. Just before getting some well needed sleep, Chris finally told me what my surprise was. We had an 8am appointment at the Grand Floridian Spa! Chris had us signed up for the Grand Romantic Evening (a 50 minute full body massage for each person in the same room). The next morning we woke up at 6:30am and drove over to the Grand Floridian around 7:15. It was a good thing we gave enough time to get over there. At 7:45 they took us both to our separate changing rooms with robes and slippers to change into. At 8 I was led to the massage room where Chris was as well. We each had a masseuse and the massage I got was amazing. I would go back every day if I could! The 50 minutes just seemed to fly by, and it was over before I knew it. After the massage we made a stop at the marina at the Contemporary to see if we could get a jet ski reservation for later in the day (it seemed like a fun idea and Chris had never ridden on one). We got a reservation for 3pm and hoped the weather would warm up in time. We decided to take it easy that day and relaxed in the hotel until it was time to check out at 11. Unfortunately we missed our PS for Donald's Breakfastosaurus and decided to just do a character breakfast another time. Around 1pm we went to Planet Hollywood for lunch. The atmosphere in there is great, and we had a very friendly waiter. After lunch we went back to the Contemporary to play in the arcade before our jet ski time. We spent about an hour and a half in there and had so much fun. We then checked in at the marina and were a little disappointed to find that we had a very limited area to drive the jet ski around in (they only let you tour the whole lake area in the mornings at 9am). Instead of getting it for an hour, we only went for 30 minutes, but still had a good time. We only rented one and just alternated driving back and forth. When we got back to the dock, we were surprised at how cheap the water mouse boat rentals were, so we each got one for an hour. I would definitely recommend renting these. They only go about 10 mph, but the view on the water is amazing, and there are so many picture opportunities. You can take the boats all over the lake, and just have to watch out for anything bigger than you (which is everything, lol). After boating, we went back to the Spa (we had full use of it for the day) to shower and change. Of course, we also took time to relax in the jacuzzi. Then we headed over to the Magic Kingdom for the rest of the night. We got dinner at Casey's (I absolutely love those hot dogs!) and then rode Space Mountain a few times. The lines seemed pretty long, but a nice woman came up to us with two fastpasses she wasn't using. We usually do this for people when we decide not use our fastpasses, so it was nice to have the favor returned. After a couple other rides in Tomorrowland, we got a good seat for the fireworks and waited for the show to begin. I love Wishes, it's just amazing how they time the fireworks to the music the way they do. With our wristbands on, we were now ready for Extra Magic Hour. I thought it would be crowded since it has changed for all resort guests, but it really wasn't very bad. We rode Space Mountain first and the lines moved pretty fast. When we got up to the loading point everyone seemed very excited, and we soon discovered that Lindsay Lohan was boarding just a few cars in front of us. I hadn't really noticed, but Chris said that he saw her pass us by in line with what looked like some of her friends and a rather large bodyguard. We didn't stay at Extra Magic Hour for very long because I was freezing (though Chris didn't think it was very cold), and we headed back to the car ready to go home. Instead though, we got a hotel off site because neither of us wanted to drive home (I think I should've realized I wouldn't make it when fell asleep on the TTA). Overall, it was one amazing weekend like I've never had before. We ate out wherever we wanted, had an amazing massage, stayed in a fun hotel, and had a great time at the parks. I can't wait to do it again. |
