| Mary Devall & Mommy\'s Magical Memories - Day 2 Part 2 (Updated 5/27) Monday, May 9 We woke up this Monday morning as if it were another work day (well, it was for poor DH ). Mary Devall had her breakfast and got dressed as usual. The beauty of her being 3 is that she never even questioned that it was 30 minutes earlier than our usual morning routine - - except for the fact that she wondered why Tarzan wasn’t on tv . DH got the luggage in the car without her noticing and we were ready to go by 7 a.m. I almost cried watching that sweet thing just going along with us thinking this was a normal Monday morning. We put her in her car seat and suddenly she noticed the luggage beside her and asked “what’s that?” DH then told her that she and Mommy were going to Disney World this morning. She looked at us with a confused expression and asked “No school?” When we confirmed that she would not be going to school this week, she looked a little excited but still wasn’t sure. The real excitement began when we pulled up at the airport - - at that point, she knew for sure that she was not going to school and that Disney World was for real! We checked our luggage curbside, kissed DH goodbye and then headed inside. The first words out of Mary Devall’s mouth were “I’m hungry” even though she had just eaten a bowl of Cocoa Puffs (we’re big health nuts in my household ). She apparently associates airports with eating - - not sure where she got that from! ![]() So we head to security where she proceeds to tell everyone she sees that she’s going to Disney World. She’s a little miffed that she doesn’t have to take off her shoes to go through security , but other than that, it’s a breeze. We stand in line for some breakfast (coffee and doughnut for me; milk and doughnut with sprinkles for her). Mary Devall ends up being more excited about the “idea” of eating than actually eating because she only eats one bite of her doughnut, so I end up with both doughnuts . By the time we get to our gate downstairs (via the elevator which makes her morning all the more exciting), our flight is being called. Before we actually go through our gate, she manages to tell almost everyone at our gate and any nearby gate that she is going to Disney World. At this point, the lady working in the gift shop is the only person who is not aware of our destination since we never made it in there. ![]() Once we are settled in our seats, I pull out the gigantic sticker book that I had bought Mary Devall for the flight. Her day had just officially gone over the top because the only thing she holds even close to Disney in her heart is a sticker. Other than sipping on her apple juice and looking out of the window occasionally, she kept her nose in that sticker book for the entire hour flight. I was so excited when we got off the plane that I headed in the opposite direction of the terminal until the couple who had sat behind us called us back . We ended up chatting with them all the way to the terminal and found out that they were going to Universal for a few days. They had left a 2-year-old daughter at home with her grandmother, but were anxious to take her on their next trip once they saw how well behaved Mary Devall was on the flight (I shared my sticker book secret). While we were waiting for the monorail to arrive, another passenger walked up to me and actually said “Your daughter is awesome!” How thrilled do you think this mommy was? Apparently, she had heard her chatting excitedly about Disney the entire length of the walk from the plane. When we disembarked the monorail and walked into the main terminal, a DME CM was standing there with her big Mickey hand directing passengers. She smiled when she spotted Mary Devall and said “I could hear you coming!” Oh, my little chatty! We stopped for a quick bathroom break since our flight was early and then we headed down to baggage claim to meet up with our TTC driver. When we were halfway down, I could make out our last name on a sign so I knew our driver was there. We met Waseem, quickly collected our luggage, and were speeding towards Disney within minutes. Waseem was wonderful and so much friendlier than our last TTC driver (who was nice, but just not that chatty). Mary Devall continued with her stickers in the car, so she was a happy camper also. By 10:00, we had pulled up to the Wilderness Lodge and I was blown away once again by the grandness of it. Waseem unloaded our bags for us and confirmed our departure info (don’t talk about that yet!!!). I was disappointed that not one of the bellmen made an attempt to even ask me if we needed help (I was used to the BCV bellmen who would trip over each other to help). I considered calling one over, but we only had two bags and a stroller so I just managed it myself. Once inside (after taking in that magnificent lobby), I deposited Mary Devall in one of the little rocking chairs in front of the tv and went to check in. I waited longer than I ever have to check in and then was told that our room was not ready yet. A little more disappointment, but hey we were at Disney! I pulled the luggage over to the sitting area and repacked the backpack with what we would need for the day (forgetting hats and sunscreen in my haste to get us to MK ). I pulled the luggage back outside where I checked it. From there, I opened the stroller and Mary Devall hopped in for our first trip to the WL boat dock. ![]() |
