Wonderful update, Cheryl! I loved your pictures of the MGM parade and Fantasmic. My family still hasn't seen either one, so hopefully we'll fit it in on our next trip! Love Mark's light-up Sorcerer Mickey hat!
I'm glad that you weren't too proud or embarrassed to ask for help with the ice cream machine! I probably would have had ice cream all over the place!

Great update and Pictures! The sorceror Mickey hat is awesome! Looks like your dh & mine have the goofy light up hat thing in common! Boys will be boys....Glad you were able to have your dessert at H&V, that would have been a travesty, had you been unable to have someone help you with the machine. Can't wait to hear more!!!

Sunday 22 December – part four: lighting up Christmas at the studios

Something else not to be missed if you visit MGM between late November and early January is the Osborne lights. These are just so beautiful and one of our main reasons for going at Christmas. They have to be seen to be believed and that was our next stop of the night. As we walked over there, I grabbed some shots of MGM at night:

I don’t mind the hat at all – I know it really offends some people, but I do think that it looks best at night.

When we got to the Osborne lights, we saw that various things had been added to them since we last saw them two years ago, like the toy soldiers, MGM icon, submarine and spaceship. And who else spotted Stitch on the rooftop of one of the houses? I confess – I have Mark to thank for that one, as I didn’t see him at first! It’s lovely to know you’ll get something different at the Osborne light, even when you’ve seen them before.

With the glasses, the lights look even more magical and all the kids kept admiring Mark’s hat through the glasses. We had loads of them come up to us and tell us how good it looked! I think he impressed a lot of kids with the hat! This year the image through the glasses was angels dancing, which worked better than the snowflake design two years ago.

Here are some edited highlights of this year’s display:

When we got back to the Beach Club, it was time for another visit to the Riptide Lounge. I think I’ve now found my favourite cocktail – the Raspberry Colada. The Riptide could see a lot more of us in days to come! After enjoying a drink there, it was off to bed.

The weather today was sunny, with temperatures in the high 60’s.
The best thing today was the Osborne family lights.
The worst thing today was the elderly couple who got in our way while watching the parade.
The funniest thing today was having to ask for help to operate the ice cream machine at Hollywood and Vine.
Today we tried the Hollywood and Vine
And the result was another great buffet, with a wonderful selection of food.
The most magical moment was the Beauty and the Beast show, very romantic.

Pedometer: 6.1 miles.

Next: a quick, but expensive, shopping trip!

Another great update Cheryl! Love the pics of the Osborne Lights! Question for you, what are the glasses you were mentioning? When we saw the Osborne Lights in December of 2004 I don't remember them handing out any glasses. Is that something they stopped doing?

Can't wait for another update!

Unfortunately yes. 2002 was the last year they did them. We asked about them last December and were told that because the lights were closer together now, the effect from the glasses wouldn't be very good. It was cool though.
