| Re: Our Laid-Back, Completely-Stuffed-with-Free-Food Trip Report! MONTHS later...Inspired to finish! JASON DAY!!! Well, first of all, let me say that I went back and re-read all of my early entries and they are all in present tense, so I'm gonna try to be more consistent instead of jumping all over the place, so here we go! This is the day we've all been waiting for! Jason Day! And the longest day of my life (or at least of my September). He won't arrive until 5:30 or so this afternoon, so I've got almost an entire day to kill on my own. Mrs. Hipskind spent the night, but she had an early doctor's appointment, so I'm all by my little self. I decide to get cute (let me tell you about this outfit: brown leather flip flops, chocolate brown gaucho pants and a pink tee with dangle earrings...I am too much ...and there's no one to appreciate it ). I'm off to DD again, just to do a bit of shopping and to search out a caramel apple (my very first since I got my braces off in February!). Lunch first, at Earl of Sandwich...a meatball sub, if you must know. And I can only eat half of it. Fine. It would have cost $8.40, but it's free for me! After lunch, I do a little pin shopping, but I just can't see spending $8 for a pin unless I love it love it love it. I'll get over this a bit, later in the trip. All the pin shopping makes me hungry for my caramel apple, which they let me use my meal plan for! Hooray! And then I decide that there's no good way to eat this massive thing, so I save it so I can chomp all over it in my room and no one has to witness it. But I CAN eat an oatmeal raisin cookie without embarrasing myself, so that works for now. Ok...still 5 hours to go before my CLH gets here, so I wander the stores. I grab a Mickey ice cube tray (which sucks, by the way), try all the testers in the bath shop, and then head over to Art of Disney, where I chat FOREVER with this sweet artist. I mention that I work at a children's hospital and she tells me that if I'll let her know the number of kiddos that we have at Christmas, she'll send a Disney drawing for EACH of them!! (She's a good person, I am not. Around January, I find her card and realize that none of the children at the hospital got a Disney sketch from a real Disney artist...all because of me. But there's always next year for me to redeem myself to myself.) By now, I've spent around 45 minutes with the artist (and let me say that she wanted to talk. A lot. So don't think that I was keeping her from her job, ok? But she was fun to listen to, so it was cool...)and been to EVERY shop, some twice, so it's time to go back to the room, eat my apple and wait on my husband. And eat the apple I did. And let me tell you that I am so glad that I waited until I got back to the room. I am laid up on the bed, towel over my shirt, caramel and apple juice just a drippin, watching the WDW channel and loving every minute Still time to kill, so I write in my Disney journal (which I can't find now) and then I give myself a little Mickey pedicure. FINALLY...FINALLY, Jason calls me to tell me that he's on the Magical Express. Hooray! No crashes...he's on the ground! It seems like forever for him to actually get here, but I'm waiting at the shuttle stop for hugs, sweet hugs. You would think we are long lost loves...I mean, gag-me-with-a-spoon sweet...and I don't care. We've got an ADR at Artist Point in just a bit, so we've got to hurry and get ourselves ready. We decide to get a little dressed up for our first night, and then we take the looong shuttle ride over to WL. We ate here in 2003 and loved it, so we can't wait to try it again...and this time we've each got an appetizer, main course and dessert (which I know will be entirely too much food for me, but I'm really going to try to pace myself!) Jason has the mussels (which he really doesn't care for, but good job for trying 'em!), the buffalo sirloin , and some kind of cobbler. I have the venison spring rolls which are sooooo slap-your-momma good, the beef tenderloin and a coffee-ish creme brulee. Soooo good. (Total WOULD HAVE been: $124.40, for those of you who are keeping score with the audience). Next up, since we're so snazzy, we grab strangers and have a little photo session. Behold: OK...I want a car. It takes us an hour and a half to get back to our hotel. Seriously. And that's all I have to say about that. Anyway, tomorrow is our first day in the parks together and we're going to the MK because of the Casey's Corner rule. |
