Re: Our Laid-Back, Completely-Stuffed-with-Free-Food Trip Report! MONTHS later...Inspired to finish!

OK...a word on the vacation perm: This is a silly thing that I do sometimes. Perm the hair one week before the trip, and straighten it a week after the trip. The good: my bangs don't wad up in the humidity, the bad: none of the pics really look like me, the ugly: there are pictures that I just can't show you, because of this brilliant "Perm Plan".

OK...Magic Kingdom with Jason

(I've been concerned about typing this up, because to be completely honest, I just didn't take good notes, and I have no idea what we did. So, I'll try to make up for it with pictures...)

Today we're going to the Magic Kingdom, because the first meal that we eat in the park has to be a hot dog at Casey's Corner. That is the rule, established on our honeymoon in 2000. So, to the Magic Kingdom we will go. But first we'll have breakfast at 1900 Park Fare and I'm sooo excited because it's my first character meal...EVER!

We get there really late because we think we can take a boat to GF and we wait and wait and wait until Jason finally goes and asks someone what the deal is. Well, no boat is coming. We should take the monorail. But the guy tells us the wrong monorail to take. SO we get off that one after a while and ask someone else. This CM gets us on the right monorail and we finally get to the GF 15 minutes late, which is no big deal, apparantly. (I just read what I just typed and it's really boring, so I apologize ).

We're greeted by Mary Poppins and I insist that Jason have his pic made with her, because she's just so cute.

Breakfast here is super yummy. We LOVE the bisquits and gravy the most and I would do just about anything for that gravy recipe (any of you guys have it?). The characters (the Mad Hatter and Alice) are great to us, even though we don't have kiddos, so I can't wait to see what they're like someday when we do!

After breakfast, we manage to get back to the MK and head straight in to the Chapeau because we've GOT to have hats for our costumes for MNSSHP! The lady does a great job!

After Chapeau, we see that Pluto is by the bathroom (and our pic has "bathroom" in the background ). Then Mickey comes out and we RACE over to see him! We wait in line for a while and wonder what George and Cheney (our dachshund and chihuahua) would do if they got to meet Mickey. We decide that George would totally be a name-dropper, saying stuff like, “Well, when I met Bugs…”, and Cheney would walk up to him like Shirley Temple or something and politely shake his hand and curtsey. Anyway, this goes on for a while and then we have our first magical moment. We get to Mickey and a cast member asks if a little girl can go ahead of us and we say sure! Then we see that she's a Make-a-Wish kid and just adorable. Mickey gets down on one knee and just loves all over her, giving her hugs and kisses and she's just loving it. He spends a good deal of time with her and Jason and I are just in tears by now. When she leaves, Mickey just stands there for a minute and watches her go, and you can tell that he's really touched. He turns to us and Jason tells him how awesome that was, and we all (me, Jason and Mickey) just have a little quiet moment and I am more in love with Mickey Mouse than ever before. This place is so awesome.

We grab a pic with Minnie (who flirts relentlessly with my husband and then gives Mickey a hard time because he hasn't married her yet, pointing to Jason's ring and tapping her foot...too cute!)

Next we run over to Splash Mountain ( I think!) and pretty much walk right on. I’m eager to show Jason the Hidden Mickey that I discovered, but when I point it out, I get in trouble by the overhead voice guy! And not even a recording, but a real person telling me to keep my hands inside the boat or they’re coming after me! (I might be exaggerating a bit there, but they did tell me to stay in the boat!)

Haunted Mansion is next and in THAT ride, we get stuck in the tea party scene! For several minutes! I’m not really afraid of that ride, but it creeped me out a bit!

OK, Jason had bartered and traded for a new fancy shmancy digital Canon camera, so we spend the next half hour trying to take the perfect castle picture (followed throughout our trip by his efforts to take the perfect fireworks picture, the perfect dinner picture, the perfect character picture and the perfect headless horseman picture).

Here’s a reminder for you all: DRINK WATER! I’m starting to feel really really ill because it’s hot and all I’ve had to drink all day is cokes. I mean, I’m weak and my stomach is cramping and all that, so we got to the shade at the Pirates covered area, so I can lay on a bench with a bottle of water and wet paper towels on my neck (while the cast members annoy the crap out of me by playing some kind of rhythmic ditty with the steel rings that they use to rope off the lines).

I finally start feeling better and the cool ride can only make me feel better, so off we go! This is Jason’s fave ride. Here’s proof: when we exit the ride, he says “I don’t want to be a preacher anymore, I want to be a pirate!”

We spend the next forever in the gift shop looking for the perfect tchotchkie for his office, but with no purchase. Then I have to watch the hair wrappers, all the while irritated that people pay so much for that when any nunu could do this with $1.25 worth of embroidery thread (no offense to those of you who have done this). Sorry, future daughter, but we’re wrapping your hair in the hotel room. But Hey! For $5, we can wrap your whole stinking head!

P.S. What’s up with that Parrot restaurant? Is it ever open? And why don’t they take that theme and run with it, like with wenches serving raw meat and such?

OK, it’s time for us to head over to MGM. We grab a burger and kill some time until it’s time for us to go to Fantasmic. When it’s finally time for the show to start, we become surrounded by bolts of lightning, which we wait out for a while. Then we decide that the rest of vacation won’t be fun if we die on our first day, so we head out and go back to the room to plan our next alive day…
