We said never again....famous last words! I was about 5 months pg with Caroline and we decided to rent one of those bikes and drive it down the boardwalk in Virginia Beach - in July! I was ready to kill DH halfway through the bike ride. Tyler was lucky - he got to ride in the basket on the front! NEVER AGAIN - EVER!!! More please! Please, please, pretty please! |

| Re: The Kansas/Texas 2005 Rendezvous at Disney World Trip Date: 9/3/05 - 9/10/05 Resort: Port Orleans Riverside Disney Freaks Involved: Me (Melanie/joyjoy), My BF (Alex), my 19 y.o. daugter (Jordie), Alex's 15 y.o. daughter (Kira) Reason for trip: It is time. ****************************************** Hello, Disney Dolls! Whew! A lot has happened since I last reported yesterd-...... What? That wasn't yesterday? My heavens, time certainly does fly doesn't it? Sorry 'bout that. And once again, thank you so much for your encouragement and nice comments. You are all too kind. Thank you. So let's get crack-a-lackin', as Adam Corolla says. I got things a little out of order. Oops. After lunch, we got Fast Passes for Test Track. Those in hand, I remembered the new rule that you can now get TWO fast passes at once (Don't freak out) so Kira and Alex ran and got FP for Mission:Space, too! We are so clever. That's when we went shopping and did TT. After that, we walked with them (Jordie doesn't do so good on M:S, so we were taking a pass on this one) and were going to hang out in the gift shop. Whooooooops. When they presented their fastpasses, they were horrified when they were promptly handed them BACK and told they were not valid. Whaaaaa? Upon closer inspection, Alex noticed in GIGANTAMOUS(e) print: NOT A VALID FASTPASS. Lesson: You can cram your Key to the Kingdom in as many fastpass machines as you want and you'll get a little piece of paper, but ya best be readin' what it says. Apparently that new rule about getting two fastpasses at once was more like a dream I had or something. Don't you love how I just make up stuff as I go along? Speaking of made up things, let's take a little diversion here, okay? Because that list of Your Very Best Park Secrets on a thread on this very (much loved) message board has absolutely trashed my reputation as a Disney know-it-all. People. We need to update and validate. I made freakin' INDEX CARDS with those tips on them and put them in the appropriate pass pocket o' the day, as you do. (You don't?) Alex, Kira and Jordie think I am a Disney Deludinoid. Seriously. I whipped out the card all smarty-pants like at our resort and asked about 30 castmembers where the butterfly hatchery at the Acadian House was. Answer: Not here, ya ding-dong. Hidden Mickeys? pfffft. Oh, and our favorite: The pottery exhibit in Mexico that changes EVERY SIXTY SECONDS. Mmm-hmmm. I was busting out those cards everywhere we went but I swear, after about 5 or 6 fake-outs, my gang started giving me one of these when I'd stop, hold up a hand, pull out a card and announce, "Oh! Wait! I have tips and tricks for this attraction!". In all fairness, some of them worked, but my Mickey Avenue Cred was seriously damaged. Okay, sorry. After they didn't do Mission:Space, we rode Spaceship Earth! I haven't done this one in years and man. It'll still bruise lumbar 4-7 just like it did in 1999. Ow. Would it kill 'em to put some padding in those seats? Still, it's a classic and I love it. I told Kira and Alex it was "Pretty much like Mission:Space" after their disappointment with the SlowPass before we went on. Crap! I forgot something else! Before Test Track, you know how the line has all those crash test dummies and all? At one point there is a life sized human drawing/chart that they use to design seats and interiors and whatnot in cars. It has arms and legs bent and is funny looking. Even funnier when you make your boyfriend pose in front of it holding the same positions! Even MORE HILARIOUS when you make him stand there on one leg, arm bent staring straight ahead saying things like "Tip your chin down!" "Right hand up!" "Hold it! Hold it!" and downright HYSTERICAL when you can't work the digital camera and make him do it until he gets leg cramps and starts shaking and sweating! Hahahaha! Yeah. What's not so funny is when the only picture you get turns out like this: Can't even see his legs. Sorry Alex. I guess I got a little too close. Let's hope my photography skills improve. Another thing I love and drive people nuts making them watch with me is this. ![]() I just am fascinated by this fountain and everybody else can take about 3 minutes of it. I kid you not, I have over a dozen pictures of this same freakin' fountain from all angles. I'll spare you, though. You're welcome. Alex and Kira did eventually do Mission:Space and landed safely (Well. You know.) on Mars. While they were doing that Jordie and I went into the Art of Disney to buy postcards. Note: Don't buy postcards here. Cha-ching! Anyway, the cool thing that happened is that the CM at the register had a Lilo pin to trade! Yayyyyy! Jordie tried our entire last trip to find Lilo and Stitch pins and found NONE. This was the first one and she was thrilled. Now her vast collection totalled....... one. Well? It's a start. We met them after the ride and saw Mickey! Isn't he cute? I mean, aren't they cute? On to Beer Showcase -uh, World Showcase! We always start in Mexico, but this time we really wanted to get there to see the Amazing Pottery Display That Changes Every Sixty Seconds. Riiiight. Okay, maybe it changed the sixty seconds we weren't looking. Changed into displays of salsa and chips. Change! Into silver jewelry. Change! Into serapes and sombreros. Change! We took a spin on El Rio del Tiempo. Kira took over camera duty and took 298,394,045,148 photos of the ol' River of Time. We have more pictures of this ride than there are pictures of the actual country of Mexico in every museum, textbook, travel guide and tv show on earth. The girl's thorough, gotta give her that. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now, I know some of you freaks lovelovelove El Rio (hi, Rachel! ) but please. Acapulco? How 1982. What they need is to show a bunch of drunk college kids on Spring Break at Carlos and Charlie's in Cozumel. Now THAT'S Mexico. The other day I told Alex that on our upcoming trip we can skip this one and I think he nearly fainted in relief. We have a tradition. I always take pictures of Alex with The Girls of World Showcase. He likes it and I think it's funny, so there you are. This girl was very nice and told us to not miss Maelstrom, which we didn't of course. ![]() This is Norway, obviously. Did you know you can go inside the Stave Church? ![]() You can! (<---- A rare Tips 'n Tricks success!) It's nice and cool inside, no one is ever in there and there is a lot of interesting info about the Stave Churches of Norway. Not that I remember any of that info, but hey. What am I? Doing a research paper? By this time it was pretty late in the afternoon. A quick look at the handy times guide and we realized - OMG! Off Kilter starts in EIGHT MINUTES! Holy Funnel Cakes, you've never SEEN such a sprint through World Showcase. Zzzip through China! Whizzzzzzz past Germany. Zoooooom through America! (Stop. Salute.) Speeeeeed through Japan, Morrocco, the UK! (Stop. Buy beer.) On to Canada! We made it just in time. Ahhh. How much do I love Off Kilter? More than is probably normal. I fell in love in 2000, I guess. Yeah, the boys aren't as lean as they used to be and Mark (swooooon) is looking more "mature", but still. What's not to love? I embarassed Kira and Jordie by taking wayyyyyyy too many pictures. I kept playing with the zoom until I think Mark actually noticed the freaky stalker mom (me) in the audience and kinda backed away. ![]() Jamie ![]() Jamie and Randy ![]() Mark ![]() Mark ![]() Mark Okay, this is getting embarassing. I'm a freak. After the set was over and the guys were talking to guests and stuff, I noticed our girlies were buzzing amongst themselves. Giggling. Kira goes, "Where did YOU come from?" and Jordie said "Well, helllooooooo." I looked back up at the stage and saw the object of their affection. A new drummer. 23 years old and wearing HIS kilt with no poofy Celt shirt. A white wifebeater t-shirt. Didn't catch his name, but my girls were smitten. Ah. I've passed on the O-K love to the next generation. My life is complete. We had a 7:00 ADR at Alfredo's in Italy so we started making our way back that direction. We dropped in the shop in Morocco, of course. ![]() Must try on everything. Then we saw this guy, in the same shop: ![]() He was banging a little drum and singing some kind of Moroccan song that sounded very exotic. It was kinda weird though, because while he was singing the other CMs in the shop were kind of laughing and looking at each other and we felt like he might have been singing about something CRAZY like brainwashing us and stealing our pretty daughters and making us pay many dollars for beautiful henna tattoos in the next couple of days. Yeah, I'm psychic. Be sure and read Thursday's Trip Report for the conclusion to this vision. Time for dinner! We've never eaten at Alfredo's and were pretty excited about it. We checked in a little before 7 and looked around the waiting area at all the photos of famous people with this Alfredo fellow. He apparently whipped up this delicious pasta thing and they named it after him and the rest is history. I think I remember seeing Bing Crosby and Clark Gable in the photos, someone jump in here and help me out. We waited about 10 minutes and got to see this: ![]() Oh, yeah. Making the pasta. Alfredo's is a blast. The food is divine. Alex and I had the Trittico di Pasta minus the one with meat, Jordie had the Fettuccine alla Vodka con Gamberoni and Kira had the Filetto di Bue al Gorgonzola. How impressed are you with my Italian? You can thank Allearsnet.com and MS Windows copy/paste feature for that. Anyway, it's true. That fettucine Alfredo is to DIE for. I don't even normally like fettucine Alfredo, but this was absolutely delicious. This restaurant is a blast. Roaming musicians...... ![]() and napkin twirling that you thought was only at Chef Mickey's! ![]() Omg, it was so much fun! Everyone was singing and clappig and just having the best time ever. Our server was a darling, her name was Gulia. Here's a pic of her with our dessert choices: ![]() At the end of our meal, Gulia gave us a photo postcard from her hometown, Milano. The picture is of the Castello Sforzesco . I wish I had a scanner so I could show it to you, but it's lovely. Alfredo's! We had very little time to find a spot for Illuminations so we just booked it over to the water-side of Italy. Perfect. Right by the gondolas. Omg, Illuminations is the best. Such a perfect ending to a perfect day. I teared up a little - maybe from the emotion of being with the ones I love the most, maybe from being at my favorite place on earth, maybe from the relief and relaxation of getting away from the stress of everyday life ...... or MAYBE from the 3 glasses of Chardonnay at Alfredo's-- but who cares? We hopped the bus back home and started planning tomorrow. MGM-Disney Studios! DUDE LOOKS LIKE A LADY! Thanks for reading! |
