| Re: Princess Becca\'s Birthday Bash (11/6-11/15)- Update- The Day Before.. Day 1, Part 1- We’re going where? The clock woke Karl and I promptly at 5:45 a.m. As this was only a couple of hours after I fell asleep I was not thrilled.. at first. I got over it quickly, though, since I remembered where we were headed. Anyway, we got out of bed and Karl lugged the box out into the living room and I took a few pictures of the box... ![]() And then we decided to wake Becca. At first she didn't want to budge--but then I mentioned that someone had left a mysterious box for her on the front porch. She was up like a shot after that. She wandered out in her giant Nextel t-shirt (I had tried to get her in cute pajamas the night before, for the sake of these pictures, but it hadn't worked.) and stared at the box for minute. She read the top of it and stared at it some more.. ![]() I started to get antsy, so I began encouraging her to untape the box (it was only 6 a.m., so I can understand her being a little bleary, ya know?). She finally gets the box open (with a little help from an over excited Mom and Dad ) and the balloons go floating up to the ceiling. ![]() She stared at them for a moment, realized they said Happy Birthday and got all excited about getting an early birthday present. Hee. It was sweet, though. She pulled out the Princess Minnie I had put in the box (half bouncing up and down as she did).. the best part? She had to move the invitation I had made for her to get to Minnie, but I guess she just got SOOO excited when she saw her that she didn't notice the fancy paper half laying on her. ![]() So, I suggested she take a look at the paper she had moved. She picked it up and seemed impressed with how fancy it was.. then I helped her read it (it's in a pretty hard to read font.. oops). She looked at it, looked at me, looked back at it, set it back in the box, looked at me some more (vaguely suspiciously).. I finally told her that we were, indeed, not going to Savannah.. WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD and she just stared at me for another few seconds and then lost it. Heh. I think it took a minute to sink in and then another minute to convince herself that I wasn't just pulling her leg. Becca's many stages of shock: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And this one's just great for the truly maniacal look she's sporting: ![]() After all that it was pretty easy to convince her to get dressed (I already had her outfit for the first day in the box) and we were able to scoot out the door pretty quickly. We had to stop at Wal-Mart for a couple last minute supplies, but we were on the road pretty quickly. Yay! Next up: I was going how fast?? And a whole lot of magic.. |

| Re: Princess Becca\'s Birthday Bash (11/6-11/15)- Update (11/19)- Day 1, Part 1- We\'re Going Where? Day 1, Part 2- Getting off on the wrong foot, and how being on Disney property makes it all better.. ![]() Becca's 1st Day Shirt desing- This was on a very yellow shirt! So, we're finally on our way! I have absolutely no pictures of the trip down.. which, considering how the drive went? That's probably a good thing. The highlights of the road trip: 1. Just after we made it to I-10, my daughter got to hear me scream an expletive. Let's all give a big thanks to the guy in the next lane who decided he needed to get into our lane RIGHT NOW. And it's not like we were in his blind spot, either.. I was literally looking the driver in the eye when I screamed the aforementioned four letter word. And once he pulled back into his lane he communicated how badly he felt for his mistake by making a LOVELY hand gesture at me. Aw, thanks. 2. Just east of Tallahassee on I-10 we get pulled over for speeding. Now, I'm not complaining-- I understand that if you're speeding you deserve to be pulled over and given a ticket. It was just terrible because it really shook up poor Karl (the driver) who's pretty much the model of the standard law-abiding citizen. As a matter of fact, when the Highway Patrol officer pulled him over he was going the exact speed limit, so he was a bit confused. Apparently, we were caught speeding by plane (while in a group of cars going the same speed). After that Karl seemed terrified that he might accidentally speed. Once again, our own fault, but still no fun. 3. Pretty much everyone in the car developed some varied digestion related problem around Lake City. I don't know why, I don't wanna know why, and I will definitely skip the gory details for everyone, but it was terrible. So, that was our drive down. Ick. Luckily, by the time we made it to I-4 everyone had returned to normal and we were all ready for some magic! And boy did Disney come through for us! We made it to the gate at Pop Century around 2:45 p.m. and told the security CM that we were checking in. She leaned out of her... shed? office? vestibule? shack? I don't know what to call it? We'll go with 'security outpost'.. So, she leaned out of her outpost and waved at Becca, at which point she noticed her birthday pin. She told her Happy Birthday and thus began the first of 600 conversations between Becca and a CM about how it wasn't really her birthday, but it was her birthday trip..etc.. From here on out, whenever this occurred I shall just say that she and the CM had the B-Day Convo. Okay? Everyone still with me? (People who haven't fallen asleep yet reading this, please raise your hands.) So, after the B-Day Convo, the CM told her to celebrate her whole trip anyway and gave her some Mickey stickers (boy, we got about a million of these on the trip- they're wonderful!) and Becca got to give away her first CM appreciation card... (Henceforth, CM card). And then we were off to check in. ![]() Becca's CM Appreciation cards We found a spot in the check-in parking lot and headed in to Everything Pop. All three of us were just thrilled. We wandered over to the front desk, pointing at all the cool stuff on the walls. I especially loved how the floor was sparkly in spots. I'm the world's biggest fan of sparklies, so that's all Pop Century had to do to win me over. They had me at hello, people. Anyway, we got to check in and had virtually no wait. The CM that helped us (don't know his name... Karl thinks it may have been Josh, so Josh it is.) asked what our preferences were- non-smoking, high floor, 70's or 50's- in that order. He looked on the computer and gave us what appeared to be a nice room on the ground floor of one of the 70's buildings. I almost took the room (I do NOT like to make a fuss), but knew that Becca would get such a kick out of staying on a higher floor.. so, I asked politely if we could have a higher room and.. he gave us one! Too cool! Yeah, I'm easy to please. We drove over to the 70's parking lot, realized exactly what kind of walk we're going to be in for (from the car to the hotel room) and decided to figure out how to transport our stuff to our room later. We head to the room, ogling the giant Foosball guys, the (really) Big Wheel, and the Mickey phone in our area on the way. We were just completely digging the atmosphere. We found the elevator and made our way to the third floor. We got into the room, dropped off what little stuff we were carrying, brushed our hair, etc.. and then we packed up for our first Disney adventure: dinner at Chef Mickey’s! Up next- Co-Pilots, Napkin Twirling, and Cupcake Eating |
