Not live anymore - Mom2my4dwarfs POP Century Trip- Updated 1/20/06

I thought I would try and do a live TR.

December 10, 2005
Today started very early this morning. We got up at 3:30am for our 8:30 am flight. The trip to the airport was very uneventful. At the airport we met up with my Aunt, Uncle and their dd and her boyfriend. They were flying into Tampa and we were going to Orlando. We will be meeting up with them during the first part of the trip. We had a long wait since we arrived so early, but I rather be early and not late. This was the first time we flew with SW and we were kind of worried about getting seats together. Everything worked out fine with our A boarding passes, even with all the pre-boards. We left the gate 15 minutes late and got to Orlando 5 minutes early. The flight crew was great and we even had a signing flight attendant.

Now this is where we encounter a problem. We got to baggage claim and we wait, and wait and wait for our bags and only get 1. After a while I noticed they were off to the side. When DH went to grab them one of the SW baggage people told us they came on an earlier flight. I wish someone would have told us that sooner. I had no idea that they would do this.

I am now sitting waiting for DH to get our rental car. The line at Alamo was so long. I should say when we left Chicago it was very cold about 10 degrees. When we landed here it is overcast, but 65. I am never going to want to go home.

Finally after 45 minutes DH gets through the Alamo line. We start to go to the parking garage, but of course after waiting 45 minutes someone has to go potty. We finally get to the garage and we get to pick which 7 passenger mini-van we get. This excites DH and he picks a Gold Pontiac Montana. Things are finally starting to look up. The van even has a DVD player for the kids. We even remembered to bring a few movies for them.

Yeah we are off to Pop. Amazingly we don’t make any wrong turns and get to POP fairly quick. We walk into the lobby and see the Christmas tree. Larry then sees the line for check in and says I get to wait in that line. The line was fairly long so Larry took the kids for a walk. By the time I was next in line they were back.

We get called up to the desk and start the check in process. We are hopping that we get our requests which are the 50’s, building 1 and on the first floor. As we are doing the whole process the manager started talking to the kids. The front desk CM ends up having to redo our keys and while he is doing that a magical moment happened for us. The manager comes back out and has a bucket of goodies and 3 balloons. He then proceeds over to us and says “attention everyone, the Hill family is the family of the day” and everyone starts clapping. Nothing special ever happens to us so we are very surprised. Later in the day when we see him again in the lobby he said Hi to the family of the day. It was so cool and we got some really cool stuff. We also got all of our room requests so everything was starting out really magical.

For the next few hours we get settled into our new home for the week and looked around the resort and bought our refillable mugs for the week. Then it was time to get ready for our dinner date at Chef Mickey’s. This has become a tradition to start out at Chef Mickey’s. As the CM takes us to our table we are headed in the same direction that we sat the last 2 times. She sat us at the same table we had the last 2 times. I guess we now have our official table at Chef Mickey's. We had a great meal and some good character interaction.

After dinner we went to MK for the night. The park was open until midnight and we were going to meet up with My aunt and uncle there. We ran into a little confusion about where we were going to meet. Finally everyone was there and we started down Main Street. The Christmas tree is on and it looked awesome. We were in awe of the Tree and the decorations down Main Street.

My Aunt and Uncle have not been to Disney since 2000 and they use to go once or twice a year. The kids decided they finally wanted to try Stitch’s Great Escape so we grabbed FP for everyone except Ryne and me. We rode Buzz Lightyear next and I got my best score ever 840,700. I even beat Larry who I never can beat. We then did the following rides TTA, CoP, Stitch and Mickey’s PhilharMagic. After Mickey’s PhilharMagic my aunt and uncle decided it was time to get something to eat, watch wishes and then they were going to leave. They didn’t bring any jackets with and it was a little chilly.

After we split up with them we did It’s a Small World and Splash Mountain. Then Laura, Ryne & Tyler decided that they wanted to do BTMR for the first time. Ashley already liked this ride so we were able to do this as a family. Laura decided that she would only ride with me, Larry took Tyler and Ryne said he would ride with Ashley. Laura and Tyler loved it and Ryne hated it.

After BTMR we decided to head to Main Street and find a spot for the 2nd Spectro parade. We got lucky and found a very nice spot 20 minutes before the parade.

After Spectro we did Tomorrowland Indy Speedway, Mad Tea Party and Peter Pan. We got a lot done in the 5 hours we were there.

We finally left MK after 12 am and we were back in the room by 12:45. We got the kids ready for bed and we were all asleep before 1:30am. It was a very long day for us, but we made it through the day.

I set our wake up call for the next morning at 7:45am; hopefully we will make it through tomorrow.

Next: December 11th - AK, Rain and MGM

Re: Semi Live - Mom2my4dwarfs reporting from POP

December 11, 2005

This morning I set a wake up call for 7:45am. Boy did that come quick.

We all got up and ready then we went to Everything Pop for breakfast. We have the DDE card and were able to save 20% off our food. We had a nice breakfast and headed off to AK. I called my Aunt and Uncle to see what they were up too and they were shopping and they decided to head over to Epcot. We planned to meet up later for Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade at 3:45.

Today we decided we were going to take it easy after our long day yesterday. After getting into AK we decided to head over towards the Safari. We stopped to get Ashley’s face painted. Laura didn’t want to do it. We then got FP for Kilimanjaro Safaris. I do have to add that we should have done it before the face painting but Larry didn’t listen too me. He said the standby line was only 20 minutes we didn’t need it. By the time Ashley’s face was done the stand by line was 30 minutes and the FP window time changed by 10 minutes. While waiting for FP time to come up we walked around the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail. After that we had 5 more minutes to wait for Kilimanjaro.

Finally it was time to go and we had a really nice Safari. We saw lots of animals, more then we have ever seen. After the Safari it was time for a snack and we stopped to have pretzels and drinks. While sitting there eating the skies opened up and it started to rain. I don’t know why but it seems every time we go to AK it rains.

We put on our yellow Mickey rain gear and headed over to DinoLand U.S.A. Laura decided she wanted to try Primeval Whirl. Larry took the girls on that one and I took the boys on TriceraTop Spin. Boy was that fun in the rain. NOT! LOL Laura got off of Primeval declaring she LOVED IT! Hmmm, I wonder who kidnapped my child and who they left in her place.

Now we are wet and cold and the kids are getting a little bit crabby. It was time to head over to FOLK to get inside and dry off even though the kids wanted to leave. Some how Larry missed our turn and we ended up over by Rainforest Café. We had to back track to Camp Minnie – Mickey. Oh well, it was raining and I wasn’t really paying attention since my glasses were all wet and trying to make sure everyone was staying together.

We were seated in the warthog section and the show was great as usual. We love this show. After the show my Aunt called and said that they were not going to come to AK because of the rain. We decided not to stay for Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade, because
by now the kids really wanted to leave.

We started to leave but had to do a little shopping. Earlier in the day the girls bought stuffed animals and the boys wanted to buy something. Tyler ended up with a Mickey r/c Safari vehicle and Ryne an r/c Stitch. Now that everyone was happy with their new purchases we left AK.

We decided that we wanted to stop AKL to see their Christmas decorations. We walked around AKL admiring everything. My first impression of the lobby was how dark it was. It looks like a nice place, but I think we would go back to the Poly before we would stay there.

After AKL we went back to the room to change out wet clothes and then it was time to head to Walmart to pick up some snacks and cereal. We grabbed all our goodies and went to check out and stood in line for every. Boy, what a difference to the store I work in. We are not allowed to have more then 2 people waiting in line. We were like 8-9 carts deep in line. We waited forever to check out and of course after we were done checking out the kids decided they needed to go potty.
By this time I am starving, the pretzels at lunch time have worn off. Tonight we were going to Olive Garden for dinner. I had $60 in gift cards and a $4.00 coupon. We got there at 5:00pm and had no wait. We were so hungry that we ordered an appetizer and dinner. It took forever to get the appetizer and then dinner took a little while after that. We were pleasantly surprised when our waitress brought our check and said her manager took off the appetizer because we waited so long. The funny thing was the bill ended up being exactly $54. So I was able to use the $50 GC and the $4.00 coupon and was able to save my $10 GC. We gave the waitress a cash tip.

After dinner we dropped off our Wal-Mart purchases to the room. Originally we were not going to do anything else today, but since the rain cut short our AK plans we went shopping a lot sooner then planned. We decided to head over to MGM and it was EMH night.

We got there and headed to Star Tours. We all ride even though I get mild motion sickness on this ride.

Now we wonder over to Osborne Lights. What can I say but they are awesome. Pictures don’t do them justice. It is amazing that this started with one family. We took our time and looked around.

After the Osborne Lights Larry decides he wants to do Tower of Terror so we go that way. We are walking by the Fantasmic gates and decided the 2nd show is about to start why not do that. We got great seats and didn’t have to wait in line.

After Fantasmic it was time for Larry to get a speed fix. He went on ToT and the kids and I sat down and waited. Larry was done in 20 minutes and said that he likes riding it better during the day. Now he offers any of the kids who will ride it with him $20 bucks. Yes, we do bribe our kids. Now I about fell off the bench when Laura decided for $20 bucks she will ride it. I wouldn’t get on it for a million and she did it for $20.

Now the 3 kids and I sat and waited for the 2 of them to ride. The boys were running around on the side walk and making up songs. Ashley played a game on my cell phone. After about 20 minutes we head up to the exit to meet them and they were walking out. Laura decided she LOVED it. Again, who is this child! This is a girl on our first trip that was scared of Peter Pan because it was dark and went up in the air.

Unfortunately we never did meet up with my aunt and uncle, but there is always tomorrow.

We were all tired at this point and decided to call it a night. We got back to the room about 10pm. The boys had a snack in the room and I got them ready for bed. Larry and the girls ran to Everything Pop for Mickey Bars and refills in our mugs.

We enjoyed our Mickey bars and the girls then were off to bed. Larry is fast asleep already as I write this.

Next: Epcot, MGM and IllumiNations
