I have been to some wonderful Italian places in D.C., Dallas and Chicago, and they were far better than Tony's. But, it still is a great place for atmoshpere and Disney theming.   |

The annoying buzzing that normally greeted us in the morning on an average day had been replaced by a little, although not so quiet, voice excitedly asking us to wake up. “Go swim, Dad… hey GO SWIM? It’s moments like these that makes me so happy that I am NOT the H2O tolerant parent. [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] Kiara tortured Grumpy out of bed and after he downed a few cups of coffee, the two of them headed off to the pool for a brief dip. And while I laid there enjoying the quiet, I knew in a short while they would return and be ready to start our day at MGM. So I forced myself out of bed, took a moment to look over the balcony and spot my two little water freaks having fun and then proceeded to get ready for our adventures at my least favorite park with my two favorite rides. My problem with MGM is that while I love, and I mean love, RNR and TOT, there just isn’t much to do there for Kiara. As in no Dumbo or divertive there of. So we try to make the best with what is there to entertain her. In the past we have had success with VOTLM and HISTK playground. But this year, after several trips of almost loosing Kiara in the madhouse that is HISTK, I insisted that Grumpy venture in with us. I had no desire to relive the panic I had experienced in the past in this attraction. With those things in mind, we had a plan. And the plan was: get in, ride RNR once each for Grumpy and me, maybe work in a ride on TOT for m, see the Little Mermaid, have lunch at Mama Melrose’s, attempt to see Lights Motor Action, if time and a fast pass allow, and get out. In half a day or less. And this is what happened. We crossed through the MGM gate shortly after opening and did as we always do, head for the biggies. RNR was calling and after seeing the stand by wait posted at 5 minutes, Grumpy gave me the nod to go first. YES! Finally after a year of waiting, my need for speed was about to be met. I walked all the way into the queue and was stopped only by the pre show with Steve and the gang. From there, when the doors opened, the line moved quickly and I was on my high speed limo. And as much as I love Happy Limo, their service and wonderful upgrades, they don’t hold a candle to what this one does for me. Take off was everything I remembered I loved. A pure rush of joy. And the ride was smooth and wonderful and dark And sadly, over way too fast. But I guess that’s what happens when you are on a ride that starts out hitting 0 to 60 in 2.8. I came off the ride and exited through the gift shop only to find Grumpy and Kiara waiting for me right at the exit, sitting on the stone wall. Grumpy told me that Kiara was hearing the screams from people on the TOT, which they had a great view of the doors opening, and was very concerned about her mother. She got confused, thought I was on TOT and was determined to send her stuffed Spiderman (which she HAD to carry to the park with us) to rescue me. Every time the doors opened and people screamed, Kiara grabbed Spidey and called him to action. When I came out of the RNR gift shop, Kiara jumped off the wall, hugged me and said “Mom! I sent Spidey to save you!” She then looked at Spidey and said “You saved my Mom” and planted a big kiss on his head. It was then Grumpy’s turn to ride RNR. As I waited with Kiara, the doors to TOT once again opened. I explained to her that her Daddy was not on that ride and she didn’t have to call Spiderman into action once again. We enjoyed watching the doors of TOT open and hearing the screams of the riders high above us. Soon, Grumpy emerged from his ride and we moved on. Since we had made Kiara wait through two trips for us on RNR, I decided to skip a ride on TOT. And we moved on in pursuit of something that would entertain our little one. We made our way back to Hollywood Blvd when Grumpy decided he needed a bottle of water. We stopped at a cart to buy one when Kiara expressed an interest in something on the picture board of the cart. She kept pointing to something, but was at a loss for words as to what she wanted. While I tried to understand what she wanted, it was Grumpy who figured it out. She was pointing at a Mickey bar. “Do you want a Mickey bar?’ “YES” .Well, then, a Mickey bar you shall have. Even though it was before lunch, what Disney loving parent could refuse their child the pleasure of a Mickey bar?  As Kiara happily worked on her Mickey bar, Grumpy and I consulted the “Times” guide we had picked up at the stand and discovered something Kiara would love was about to start on New York Street. The Power Rangers were just moments away from making their first appearance of the day. Second only to Spiderman in Kiara’s order of super heroes, are the Power Rangers. We headed to NYS and made the mistake of telling Kiara we were taking her to see the PR. We found a bench to sit on and wait as we had arrived a few minutes before the PR scheduled appearance. And much like her morning nagging to go for a swim, Grumpy and I both had to curb Kiara’s excitement over meeting the PR. We both fielded many questions about when they would appear and when one of us was telling her to be patient, loud music from nowhere erupted. And it was on. Kiara recognized the music instantly (although I had never heard it) and started clapping her hands and screaming “Power Rangers! Power Rangers!” Sure enough, a large, and very cool car, with huge speakers in the back of it appeared. And on it was not one, but five super Jetix heroes. Let the picture posing and autograph collecting begin!    The entire time that I spent in the lines with Kiara at each PR spot was wonderful. The area was charged by the loud music playing. The PR were so full of energy and striking some cool action hero poses and attempting to get the kids to do the same. Even the photo pass CMs there were feeling it. When they first came out in the early 90s my brother was obsessed! I loved them, too, but not as much. Mike, my cousins and I would always play Power Rangers. I was always Kimberly, the Pink Ranger, and Mike was Tommy, the Green Ranger. Are the names still the same, or is this a whole new batch of power rangers??? I'm glad Kiara had such a good time seeing them! |
