Day Five - rolling, rolling, rolling on a segway

Our morning started bright and early, with our usual routine...(could we be more creatures of habit??) After we were ready we were on our way to Epcot by 8:30. We had to check in by 9:15 for our tour. I figured we'd get there, the park would not be open yet and we'd have to tell someone what we were doing...but the park was already open when we got there, which was about 10 till 9. It wasn't an EMH morning so I don't know what was going on.

Anyways..we checked in at guest relations and had a few minutes to sit and people watch before our tour guide came. Our group began to form around us, and you know how there's always that one person that is a BIG know it all?? Well we had one! Andy and I just kinda kept to ourselves in the beginning hoping he wouldn't talk to us. He latched on to this other couple [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/rofl2.gif[/img]

Finally we were on our way to where the tour started. As we walked up to the area it seemed like we were heading towards Club Cool so Andy made a smart remark about how the Segway Tour is in Club Cool. Then we were taken into that room and we had to find a helmet. Andy got all fussy b/c I snapped at him b/c he was rushing me trying to fix his helmet strap. [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif[/img] I was like, dude, it's the teacher in me, get over it.. [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif[/img]

We watched the video, then listened to our instructor's little spill, and I sat there and continued to get nervous. I just knew that my uncoordinated self was going to stink at this. Then it was time to get on the thing!! Andy's gonna kill me, but I'm telling you this... He totally almost bit the dust getting on his. The way you have to get on one doesn't allow you to watch your feet, and you have to stand so close to it that your feet are underneath it (paranoid me noticed this while watching everyone else get on). So he didn't get his foot out from under but he caught it and made it up on there [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/rofl2.gif[/img] It was funny though. Once on we practiced all our segway moves and I was all cool moving around the room and the cones and such. Then they made us go up the ramp and back down again. This one concerned me b/c I wasn't sure how much control I would have with my speed going down hill. So, I made it up okay and this is a cool little thing, while I was waiting at the top for everyone to come up the ramp, the characters at the Character Connection are right around the corner. Well, apparently I caught one of their's attention and Schmee takes a step over and starts waving at me. A very unbalanced me takes one hand off my Deathgrip that I had on the segway to wave back [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif[/img] BUT, I maintained my balance [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/082502yes_prv.gif[/img] And I made it back down the ramp okay too!

After our little obstacle course lesson it was time to head out into the World for our real tour. It was so cool to roll around the WS with nobody around and to stop and listen to the guide. He shared some really neat stuff that I didn't know about the different countries.

Accidents for the day: One lady hit a bench, and the guide was yelling at her "WATCH THE BENCH WATCH THE BENCH" and then she hit it and said "I was watching it right up when I hit it" [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/rofl2.gif[/img] Another lady almost bit it back in Japan. We were going around the gardens and there was a hump back there. Well she didn't give it enough umph to get over it and then she panicked and turned her handles and she almost went over the fence backwards but one of the guides caught her. He made her stay right behind him the whole time [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif[/img]

During our free time on the Segway we had our picture made and there was an older couple that had forgotten their camera so we let them use ours and I emailed them the pictures. They were very grateful and I was glad I could help. Then all the characters came out on their way to the front of the park I guess and they stopped for some photos. That made for a great shot!! They hung out and played around for a bit and then it was time to head back around and back in. I was a little nervous heading back b/c we had to go back through some of FW and I was afraid of someone stepping in front of me (believe me, people will do it b/c they don't pay attention).

This was a GREAT experience and I think Andy really enjoyed it. This was something he had really wanted to do.

However, on a side note... People w/back issues (such as myself) this killed my lower back. I was okay the whole trip until this. I had to put one of those heating patch things on my back right after it. I think standing in that stiff position (b/c I was so nervous on it) for two hours just got me! But after a nap back at the room and a hot bath I was okay for the night!

After the tour we were starvin' like marvin so we went to France for lunch. We ate at Boulangerie Patisserie. Very very very [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/yuma.gif[/img]!! I had a ham and cheese croissant and a lemon pastry for dessert. I think Andy had the same thing except an eclair for dessert. I will definitely eat here again [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/082502yes_prv.gif[/img]!!

Once we got ourselves full we headed back to the lodge to rest up. We had a 3:50 ADR for Fantasmic that night and it was already a little after noon.

YAY! I loved the Segway tour when we did it. We also had two people bite the dust. I was sooooo tired afterwards.... Looks like a fun morning though!! Oh GEEZ - we had one of those - almost forgot about him. I'm getting on my trip report today but I'll have to share about him in line for Soarin. I had my daughter in stitches as I made fun of him under my breath so only her and my husband could hear but I wanted to just say "Can you please just shut up". LOL

Oh my gosh, you had me [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/rofl2.gif[/img] so hard reading about the Segway tour. Something about people falling down/nearly falling down cracks me up anyway, so this one was a beauty!

Reminded me of the time that my MIL went off the sidewalk on Main Street in MK on her little scooter. She was okay, but that baby probably had to go in for maintenance before they could rent it again. The funniest thing was that it was totally her fault and yet she managed to blame my DH who was walking ahead of her. [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]
