The Quick & Crazy Weekend Trip (Updated 2/10 with last day) We came home last night from a wonderful long weekend at WDW. I would love to do a long, detailed report, but those who know me…know I would never finish it. As it is, I should be catching up on homework as today is my only day off before returning to work, but no, I have spent the entire day catching up on the boards instead…. This trip came about three weeks after returning from a wonderful week in WDW in October. I received an email from Disney saying they had a special on park passes, park hoppers with the water park fun and more for the price of the base ticket. I then received a DING from Southwest. Well the price was perfect and I was going through the “just back from WDW withdrawals” so I called my husband…he said if I wanted to consider this my Christmas/Birthday gift, I could go for it. So I did! Big surprise huh? Okay, I said this would not be detailed….. Cast of characters: Me! Jen, 33 – lover of all things Disney DH – Greg, 29 – loves me, and my love of all things Disney Where? All Star Movies When? February 3 through February 6 Our flight left Providence a little late, which of course put us behind at DME. We arrive in Orlando to…RAIN. What did we leave in MA? RAIN. Ok, so far not so good. We get to ASM and are informed that they never assigned us a room, and the resort is booked full. They offer to move us to Sports or Music, I ask for an upgrade. They offer, CSR, I say no (sorry, we really did not enjoy this resort the last time we stayed there). I went for the deluxe upgrade but that wasn’t happening. They finally just gave us a preferred room with a king bed at Movies. Why didn’t they just do that in the first place? Oh well, we were happy. We had not eaten all day but had an ADR at Ohana for dinner so we didn’t want much. We made a quick stop at the food court and were off to our room. It was plenty big enough for the two of us. It was a handicapped room so the bathroom was quite big. After freshening up we headed out for the bus to Downtown to switch to the Poly. It’s time for tangent #1. In October we stayed at the Beach Club. We had a horrible time with the busses. In 8 days we never once were able to sit down on a bus, no matter what time of day. The busses stopped at the Boardwalk, Swan, Dolphin, Yacht and then the Beach Club. It was horrible. We were very disappointed. We mentally prepared ourselves for this trip. We figured that some or all of the All Stars would share a bus and since the resorts were full, we’d definitely be standing. We only stood once. Just once and that was for extra magic hour at AK. Strange. You’d think that the bus service would be better at the Beach Club. Oh well, lucky us this time. Dinner at Ohana was wonderful as always, we really like the new menu (though I do miss the pineapple at the end). I timed it so we could watch Wishes during our meal and we were lucky enough to get a window seat. After dinner we headed back downtown with the plan to hit Pleasure Island but we were exhausted from traveling all day. This of course did not deter me from shopping. Oh no, quite a bit of money later we headed to the hotel to crash. Tomorrow would be a very busy day. Next Up… I get to experience The Magic Kingdom with little princesses! So, you mean parents left Andrew at home all alone huh? Good for you! Looking forward to hearing all about the rest of your long and wonderful weekend.

I am looking forward to hearing your stories....and I even have a story for you too. I had an ugly moment on this very site. Fortunately wiser heads shut the entire thread down and deleted it. Whew it could have got ugly............. Oh... and PS. I am surprised to hear your comments about CSR. That was my next resort of interest. We'll have to talk. Anyway, welcome back. See you at work. |

Re: The Quick & Crazy Weekend Trip What a great first day Jen I have the same complaint with the BC as well, and we try to do only MGM and Epcot during our stays there so we can avoid the busses! Hurry back

Re: The Quick & Crazy Weekend Trip Day Two I forced DH awake because I wanted to run immediately to AK to try to get on Expedition Everest. I look outside and…it’s pouring. Ok, maybe we’ll wait for Everest. We had plans today to meet with DH’s friend Melissa and her three children. They live on the west coast of Florida but had never been to Disney World. We headed to the MK and rode Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear (which I thought was supposed to be closed) and Big Thunder Mountain within an hour. There were no lines at all, I figured the rain was keeping them away. It was a Saturday after all, I figured the MK would be packed. Melissa and her family met us at the park around noon and off we went to Fantasyland. We visited all of the rides, including ones we had never done (Dumbo, The Carousel) because we don’t have little children and never thought to ride them! Side Note: Those of you who know me are wondering, where is your son? We have a 16 (two months to 17) year old son who dare I say, did not want to come to WDW with us. He went with us in October and we let him bring a friend (read: we never saw them unless they needed money) and he didn’t care to go back again. Can’t be my kid, must be adopted. So during this entire trip, I was calling him constantly. Ok, not really constantly. The first day constantly, the second day a lot, the third day a couple times, the last day once (or maybe twice). I guess I’m a little paranoid. But we are home and he is still alive and the house is still standing. Ok, back to the Magic Kingdom… I’ve never experienced the MK with little girls, never mind ones that have never been to the MK before so I was in for a treat. Melissa brought her son Zack, 12, daughter Emily, 5 and daughter Savannah, 2 ½. Zack was like all boys and just wanted to ride the fun rides. Let’s focus on the girls. Melissa should sell parenting tips or something because these girls were non stop from noon to 7:30. They didn’t want a stroller and never complained. They went on any ride without question and just were amazed by all things Disney. They were the most well behaved children I’ve ever spent time with (mine included). It was pure pleasure to experience the magic of Disney through their eyes. I spent the entire time staring at their faces. They had so much fun! We got through all of the rides in Fantasyland (except Snow White) and did everything in Toon Town, Pirates of the Caribbean, the train and Aladdin. We pretty much did all there was to offer at the MK for smaller children in one afternoon! Around 7:30 the girls were getting tired and we wanted to stay for Spectro so we parted ways. After seeing them off we went to have a quick curbside dinner. I found us a nice piece of curb on Main Street while DH went to get dinner from Casey’s. We ate and froze. It felt like it was 30 degrees. We shivered for an hour and a half waiting for the parade and then ran for the bus. When we got back to the hotel the weather reporter said it was 54 degrees! Liar. I live in MA. 54 degrees is a heat wave. I was freezing, and I was dressed in layers. Tomorrow, I will bring mittens. Next Up… Will we ever get to ride Everest?

Re: The Quick & Crazy Weekend Trip (Day two up 2/8) Day Three This morning nothing was stopping me from climbing Mount Everest. Doesn’t that sound cool? Ok, ok riding Expedition Everest. We took off around 8 to head to the AK. We actually were able to see the opening show. Once we were in we headed to Asia. The cast members told everyone that Everest was not running yet. We got a fastpass for later and went to ride Dinosaur. After Dinosaur we checked on EE. No luck. Then we headed to get a fastpass for the Safari and had some breakfast. We headed back to EE and decided just to stand around. A few minutes later they opened the ride. DH said just to get into the stand by line because there wouldn’t be a wait (there were about 30-40 people in front of us) but I figured we had the FP might as well use it. We walked through the FP queue only to find that we were the first ones at the ride and got to have the first car! Now how cool is that? Off we went, it was awesome! When we got to the end, it just kinda stopped. Not quite at the end but right near the end. We could wave to the cast members but we were just sitting there. An Imagineer came over and let us all off the ride. He said at least we got to ride it before they closed it again and it was kinda cool to meet an Imagineer. After that they shut the ride down. Nothing like getting to be the first to ride for the day. I’m not sure how long it was down for because after our safari we headed to MGM to meet friends. This trip was originally intended just for the two of us, but it turned into quite a cast after it was booked. We tried to hook up with my sister who lives in Clermont but couldn’t get our schedules to coincide. We spent the day with DH’s friend Melissa and her family and we spent time with our friends Jenne and Travis who were married on Long Boat Key on Friday, 2/3. We met them at MGM at noontime on Sunday. We went on all the rides (walked right on Tower of Terror three times in a row, no lines) and did all the shows and just had a wonderful time. We had an ADR at 50’s Prime Time for lunch and our server was fun. The woman at the table next to us had to sing I’m a little teapot. I felt for her, I had to do that a few years ago. We spent the day with the newlyweds until it was time for MGM to close. They headed to their hotel and we hopped the boat to Epcot. There was no chance that I would miss Illuminations (it’s my favorite anything at WDW). We meandered around the world showcase and picked up some dinner (fish & chips for DH, hamburger for me). We went to visit Mexico for my favorite adult beverage and just hung around waiting for Illuminations. Tonight was not as cold as last night (or maybe that was the liquor?) but don’t worry, I used my mittens. After Illuminations we power walked to the bus stop and caught a bus right away. Back at the resort there were people swimming in the pool. It was less than 50 degrees outside, we figured they must be from Alaska. After watching the news for a little bit (I love to watch the news in other cities) we crashed. Tomorrow was going to be another long day. Up Next….Our last day and the attack of the killer birds.
