| Re: The Double Celebration Trip April/May 2006 - Pre Trip Report Part 4 Part 4 - What do you mean the EMH hours have changed Soon after our planning night, the ADR booking system changed from 90 days before to 180 days. Which meant I could make our ADRs a lot sooner than expected. Sweet I went through the Extra Magic Hours and chose the times to eat, before emailing our TA who then sorted the ADRs out for us. Just before Christmas, Disney issued the new EMH hours for 2006. And all the days had changed around Which meant my ADRs wouldn’t work I looked through the new hours and did some reshuffling, before contacting our TA again and changing it all around – apart from the Boma ADR. But no problem, the other ADRs were changed I’ve been requested not to make too many plans. Mum claims she’s not getting any younger and she doesn’t want to need another 2 weeks to recover from the 2 weeks of madness she thinks I’ll put them through. Hmm, good point well made. But I assured Mum that we wouldn’t be going too gung ho, honest As time went on, I was trying to think of ways to celebrate both Jez’s 50th and their 1st wedding anniversary. During another of our evenings spent talking about all the great things we’ve done on past trips, I showed them photos from our IllumiNations Cruise and told them all about it. Jez thought it sounded really cool and he said that one day, he’d love to do this. I made a mental note of this and spoke to Andy about it once they were out of earshot. Andy thought it was a great idea I looked into the cruises and decided on the birthday one. They decorate the boat in banners and balloons, provide snacks like the normal cruise plus the driver, but if you want anything food or drink related, you have to go through the Yacht Club Private Dining, which is fine. As the cruise is to mark such a special occasion, it was decided that we should keep it as a private party rather than offering it out. Fast forward again until after the New Year. At another of our get-togethers, I brought up the subject of our meals. I mentioned that as we only had 4 ADRs booked during our 2 weeks, then apart from eating offsite during shopping trips, we’d end up eating at counter service locations. Neither Mum or Jez seemed to mind this so we’ll see what happens, but I can forsee me having to make some last minute arrangements As I’m writing this, we’re down to about 12 weeks I started thinking about how we could make Mum & Jez’s 1st wedding anniversary special. I came up with two different ideas – either a night at Cirque du Soleil followed by a meal, or a romantic meal at Victoria and Albert’s. At first, I was settled on Cirque and I’d looked into the tickets and seating. Then I looked at different menus at Downtown Disney and nothing seemed romantic enough. I then started looking at the Victoria & Albert’s menus and I realised that it would cost about the same as a night at Cirque followed by dinner, if not less. After more discussions with Andy, I decided on Victoria & Albert’s. Again, I booked the ADR through our TA and it was all sorted. I booked the earlier seating as I know Mum and Jez don’t like eating late. Andy and I will probably go off to a park and play while they eat. The 90 days mark for booking our cruise started approaching fast. As I’d recently started back at work, I realised that I wouldn’t be able to ring for it. I decided it was to reveal the surprise to my Mum – on the promise that she’d keep it a secret from Jez until his actual birthday. Luckily Mum thought it was a wonderful idea and something Jez would definitely love. Phew! I gave Mum step by step instructions on what to do and what to say, including ringing two minutes before they opened and she agreed to do it, no problem. Originally my TA had advised that he would book it for me but I had a feeling deep down that I'd better have a back up plan. The first day Mum rang, she could get a cruise but it was a day too early. Luckily Mum was able to ring back the next day and score a cruise for Jez’s actual birthday. Result My plan is to go to Beaches and Cream for dinner or a kitchen sink before heading to the Marina. We have the number to ring for Yacht Club Private Dining so we can order a birthday cake and some alcohol. I’m so excited now it’s all been booked – it makes it seem more real. I still have a list of things to do at this point but it’s narrowing down. Update 13th February – I finally have the AAA rate added to my booking of 2 rooms. It’s not fantastic but it’s better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick! It’s saved us a couple of hundred dollars so far. If an AP rate comes out, I don’t know if it will be better than this one but I sure hope so. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t. Some money off is better than none at all coming up: another change for Jez's birthday! |
