| Re: & Larry’s Semicentennial Birthday Jaunt (Day 3, Part 1 Up!) So now you know how it feels to be in a zoo, huh? (reference passengers looking at you instead of the elephants ). Great AK morning -- now go and ride EE for me please! My husband yelled for me the other night. I thought something was wrong, but he pointed to the tv excitedly where he was watching a Discovery Channel show about the making of EE! He even taped it for me - - that boy is going to make sure that I ride it with him on our next trip! Jill |

| & Larry’s Semicentennial Birthday Jaunt (Day 3, Part 1 Up!) Saturday, April 8, 2006 – Part 2, EEeeee! Ewwwwww! When I left the tour, my EE FP time was just open, so I made my way back to Asia where I found the current standby time to be 80 minutes! The FP’s being dispensed at this point (around 11:30 or so) are for 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. I am pleased to say that with my FP, I was on the train within 5 minutes. Woohoo! This ride, my 10th, was just as wonderful as the previous ones, and I have to say that I did not see any disappointed patrons, at least among the ones who were riding…. You can get some impression of how popular this attraction is from these pictures. ![]() ![]() I don’t know if you watched the program on the making of EE that Jill mentioned, but it was very interesting and I am amazed at the level of detail (and how much of it I did not consciously notice). According to OFC CM Andrea back at the WL, Disney is a bit blown away by EE’s popularity. [I have to say that this is surprising given the effort they have put into promoting it, but apparently there are days where their AK attendance projections have been significantly under the actual gate.] Anyway, by now (11:40) I was a bit hungry and decided it was time for some lunch. And I knew just what I wanted—grilled salmon! So, as you may have already guessed, I headed to the Tusker House where the salmon is wonderful. TH was pretty crowded and I only managed to find a seat outside in the smoking section. Fortunately, it is quite windy today and the wind is blowing in a helpful direction. The salmon is served with seasoned rice and green beans with mushrooms. I think there is also a tomato salsa (?). After lunch, I decided that I was done with AK and its crowd, so I headed out of the park and to the bus stop to catch a bus to the WL. I want to drop the camera in the room and probably head to MGM, although I am planning to cancel the Hollywood Brown Derby reservation. Maybe it is the heat, but I am just not up for another significant dinner this evening. When I got back to the WL, I headed up to the 7th Floor where I stopped in the OFC and got some lemonade and cookies—both the sugar and chocolate chip are quite good , and they taste homemade. I munched on the dessert while my room was being finished up. When I walked down to the room, I found a towel doggie with a sign that said, “Welcome Home”. ![]() I had an envelope from DME this morning with my instructions for tomorrow. I will be able to check my bag here in the morning and get my boarding pass for the flight tomorrow. I left the camera and fanny pack, which I only carried for the camera, and went downstairs and out to the bus stop for a ride to MGM. The bus was pretty quick and my entry into the park was smooth. I went directly down Sunset Blvd, where I found the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (RnRC) standby time to be 30 minutes, and Tower of Terror (ToT) to be at least 45 (the tip board had it at 90 minutes). I got a ToT FP and then headed to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (WWTBAM). On my way to WWTBAM, I passed the Hollywood Brown Derby (HBD) Restaurant. First, I want to say that I cancelled my ADR when I was back at the WL. This is to let you know that what happened next had nothing to do with me not eating at HBD. As I usually do, I headed down the steps near Starring Rolls Café and then turned the corner where the HBD has outdoor seating, which is separated from the walkway by a half-wall. People were dining outside. As I walked along, I noticed that a diner had laid her child on the half-wall and was changing her diaper. At the time I passed by, the child was [ahem] diaper-free. All I could think was, “OH, GROSS!” But I didn’t say anything. Thankfully, given how warm it had gotten, the queue at WWTBAM is inside. I think the humidity had gone up. There was only one guy in the Hot Seat for this game, and at the end I was #2 on the Top Ten List (seat #98). Afterward it was time for my ToT FP, so I headed back that way—there was no sign of nekkid babies this time. There was a young guy on my elevator in front of me who had a water bottle that was either loose or came loose when we dropped, and it was absolutely the coolest thing! It hung in midair, turning slowly . I stopped to buy a bottle of water near the Tip Board and then headed out of the park to the Friendship for Epcot. | Re: & Larry’s Semicentennial Birthday Jaunt (Day 3, Part 1 Up!) Cool about the water bottle on ToT! I use to have a pair of sunglasses that I wore on a chain around my neck, and when we dropped on ToT they floated right out in front of me and it was so funny! | Re: & Larry’s Semicentennial Birthday Jaunt (Day 3, Part 1 Up!) Larry, what a wonderful report! Your writing is just amazing, detailed but in no way overbearing. I it. You are causing me to Disney dream instead of work today, but that's OK! Can't wait for more. |

| Re: & Larry’s Semicentennial Birthday Jaunt (Day 3, Part 1 Up!) Great AK morning and MGM afternoon although I am very sad that you cancelled your HBD ADR. And I promise you that I changed no diapers on the patio at HBD! All of my Disney diaper changing has been either in restrooms or the baby centers - - oops, except that one time on Space Mountain - - just kidding! I promise! And they are coming to get your luggage already!?! That was way too fast! Jill |

I'm really enjoying your report. I can't believe that woman had the nerve to change her baby in front of people trying to enjoy a meal! | Re: & Larry’s Semicentennial Birthday Jaunt (Day 3, Part 1 Up!) Saturday, April 8, 2006 – Part 3, A Quiet Evening When I reached Epcot and entered the International Gateway, I realized I was tired, and there was something majorly bothering my sinuses. My eyes were also burning and watering. [I suspect that it was something blooming along the Channel between the UK and France.] Things improved a little bit as I walked around to Mexico. I went in the pyramid to get in the cool and the dark, and grabbed a seat on a bench by the fountain where I sat for a while and enjoyed listening to the Mariachi Band. I was really interested in seeing Illuminations—it was over by the time I finished the meal at Flying Fish last night—but decided that I was just not up to waiting another 3 hours for the show. I decided to head back to the Lodge, shower and perhaps nap, and then take stock. I headed out of the park and made for the monorail stop, and a monorail was there as I got to the top of the climb. I rode back to the TTC, changed to the MK monorail, and then headed to the dock and caught the WL boat. All in all, it was actually a fairly efficient and relaxing trip, and it was a nice change from the bus. After the boat docked at the WL and I disembarked, I started walking toward the Lodge and, glancing at my watch, noticed that it was 2 minutes before geyser time. So I took the boardwalk on the left, stopped and waited for the eruption. Afterwards, I headed upstairs. Stopping in the OFC for lemonade only, I made straight for the room and the shower. I crashed for a bit after showering (my allergy situation was much improved), and after a while I decided that I might just be hungry. Since I had not yet patronized the newly refurbished and reopened Roaring Fork, I went downstairs to the snack shop and, after some rumination over the sandwich menu, asked the friendly CM to make me a Ham and Tillamook Cheddar Sandwich, which was served on mustard rye (it was delicious, by the way). I bought it and a bag of Cheetos, and returned to the 7th Floor. There I made use of the OFC offerings, and rounded out my meal with a glass of mineral water and a glass of Beringer White Zinfandel. Dessert consisted of apple cobbler and a decaf cappuccino with a shot of Bailey’s Irish Cream. Woohoo! I returned to the lobby and went in the Mercantile to buy some items I had selected earlier, including a shirt, a resort pin and magnet (for my collections), a postcard, and a WL card to send to my Mom. When I got back upstairs I wrote the card, did a bit of packing, and hung out a while on the veranda before retiring for the night with my book. Coming Up: Back to the MK and then Home |
