& Larry’s Semicentennial Birthday Jaunt (Complete!)

Dates: April 6-9, 2006

Adventurers: Me, experienced WDW fan, not previously seen on a solo trip

Resort: Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort

Celebration: My 50th Birthday

Meetings Planned: A couple of possibilities but nothing definite

Tours: Animal Kingdom Wildlife Excursion (via WL Concierge)

Advance Dining Reservations:
<ul type="square"> Artist Point
Flying Fish
Hollywood Brown Derby
Hi, Gentle Readers!

Miss me?

So, how did I come to schedule a solo birthday trip?

Well… I worked on President’s Day and decided to take the holiday plus a vacation day and go somewhere for my birthday (4/6). I considered and discarded a number of alternatives in Wyoming, New Mexico, Nevada, Florida, and North Carolina, mainly because they weren’t particularly convenient for a long weekend visit, or I didn’t want to go to that particular place by myself. I have read a number of trip reports by people who went to WDW solo and managed to enjoy themselves , and wondered what such a trip would be like. And, finally, I happen to have an AP that doesn’t expire until mid-April!

So, once I started thinking along these lines, I checked out flights (not great, but they were direct between Huntsville and Orlando), and then started contemplating resorts. I was really drawn back to the Beach Club, but when I found that I could get concierge at the Wilderness Lodge for about the same $$$ [with the AP discount, of course], that did it for me, and I made the reservation for the latter. I have never stayed concierge at WDW and this seemed like a good time to try it.

I was contacted by the itinerary planning folks within about a week, and passed along my requests for ADRs and for the Wildlife Excursion. They dealt with these very efficiently. I also requested Disney’s Magical Express (another first), and received my tags and voucher about 10 days later.

The grand opening of Expedition Everest is Friday, April 7, so I’ll have to decide if that’s a reason to go to AK that day, or stay away!

So, stay tuned! I’ll be back after the trip.

I had no idea that you had a birthday trip plan! And what a trip it is!

I was still feeling blue over your last trip being over, but now I can again knowing that you'll be off again in another few days! Geez, how did April get here so fast
