Hello PassPorter Peeps!
I've been debating for a while now about writing a TR for our cruise and have finally decided to bite the bullet and go for it! I love the record that my last TR provided for my family and that was my deciding factor. With us arriving home just in time to start back to school, I will strive for regular updates, but no promises So, without further ado....my PTR....
This is our very first cruise ever and to say we are excited is a drastic understatement!
Last spring (2010), as we were planning our annual trip to WDW, I began playing around on the Disney Cruise site, pricing cruises for March 2011 just for fun. I was shocked to see that if we booked this cruise and wanted early dining we were completely out of luck. WHAT??? This was a year in advance!!! This quickly set the wheels in motion for our upcoming cruise – we wanted to make sure we had a choice as far as dining and rooms, so we had to book ASAP.
Now, why a cruise this year instead of WDW? It is our 10th anniversary . When we first got married, we always said we would return to Jamaica for our 10th (this is where we went for our honeymoon). Fast forward 10 years and 2 kids later, and I couldn’t wrap my head around leaving them for a week when I was that far away. Insert our new love of Disney and we figured a cruise would be the best of both worlds – we could put them in the kids club where they would have a blast, and we could have some time alone relaxing together. I was thrilled with that decision!
Time to book came and we were set on going the week of our anniversary, which is August 11; however, upon playing around some more, we discovered we could cruise 2 weeks later for a LOT less money! Two weeks later it is! This is also a B2B cruise since there are no 7 day cruises in the summer (darn Disney!)
So, the dates of this adventure are: August 25-28 and August 28-September 1

We were so excited about booking on the Dream and spending our anniversary with some of our favourite characters that I immediately got on the phone with my Mom. I chattered away about the awesomeness of the boat and all the things that it will have and then got off the phone with her; minutes later, it rang again. It was my mom, asking if we perhaps wanted company on this trip. I was thrilled!!
DH and I had kicked around the idea of inviting the extended family, but I never thought my parents would go. My mom hates, hates, hates, hot humid weather, and while they’ve cruised before, they’ve always gone in the winter, and if it’s really hot where they are at, she stays in the air conditioning. To hear her say she wanted to head to Florida in August shocked the daylights out of me . When I expressed my concern, she waved it off, saying she could stay inside if the heat overwhelmed her.
With them on board (haha!), we put out the invite to DH’s parents and 2 sisters and their families. After very little discussion, they ALL agreed to come! This is HUGE – my MIL, youngest SIL and BIL have never been anywhere, and I mean anywhere! The farthest they’ve gone is Niagra Falls (about 3 hours from here).
Unfortunately, my brother and his wife-to-be were out since they had a wedding and honeymoon to pay for, so I’ll miss them while we’re gone

Without further adieu, here is the cast of characters that you will read about in this report (sorry about the lack of photos – I’m not sure if they’d all want their pics on here):
DH and I: Disney nuts, we discovered our love of the World in 2007 and are considered the ‘local experts’ in all things Disney. DH and I have planned more trips for friends and family then we can count . One of these planning events lead me to Passporter – DH’s co-worker got him our 2009 version as a thank-you gift, and I’ve been hooked ever since!
Our progeny:
Sabrina – 7 Has a love for all things princess, but her faves are Jasmine and Ariel. She is over the moon about this trip – not only is she going to Disney, she is traveling with her favourite (and only!) cousins.
Alex – 6 Has an obsession with Sorceror Mickey and often pretends that he can ‘shoot magic’ out of his fingers just like Mickey! His other favourite is Panchito from 3 Cabelleros – we blame that obsession on the Grand Fiesta ride at Epcot
My parents (Chris and Alan): Went to WDW on their honeymoon 37 years ago and have been back 3 times since, once bringing us as kids. My mom’s dream is to stay at one of the monorail resorts, so hopefully one day, they’ll do that. They are both excited to spend this vacation with us and their favourite (and only!) grandkids, although my mom shows that excitement more than my dad does. They’ve offered to take the kids for a night or two so DH and I can head to one of the clubs for a few drinks, so that’ll be nice!
My MIL (Joanne) and FIL (Albert): FIL has traveled to Italy before (his place of birth), but MIL has never been anywhere. We are always trying to get them to take a vacation, and this year is their 40th anniversary – what better time to take a trip! With all of us going, hopefully it will take some of the worry about travelling away from her. FIL is a fun-loving, game for anything kind of guy and is looking forward to this trip. MIL has a few health issues, one of the bigger being 2 bad knees. She had knee replacements years ago, but they didn’t help her at all, so sometimes mobility is an issue. We’ve reassured her that there are wheelchairs if needed, and she really won’t have to walk that much if she doesn’t want to.
SIL (Mary) and BIL (Kevin) #1, DN Jack and DNiece Hailey: This is Dave’s older sister and her family. Our kids are exactly the same ages and are very close – this has added tons of excitement for them to be able to go together on another vacation. Our first trip to WDW in 2007 was with them, and it was overall a wonderful experience. They are definitely a family we can travel with. They’ve been back once since that trip and are all thrilled to be going on this cruise.
SIL (Laura) and BIL (Joe) #2: Dave’s younger sister and her husband. They were married last April, but since they were buying a house, they decided against a honeymoon. So, this is it! BIL is super easy going, and agreed to whatever my SIL wanted, which was going on this cruise with us! They have never flown either, so it ought to be interesting! One of the funniest moments of our planning came from Joe....we were discussing the ship one night and he said something about winning at the casino while on board. DH and I exchanged glances and laughed, informing him that there are no casinos on the Disney boat. Now he’s worried that people will look at him funny because he’s on a Disney cruise with no children and nothing to do (at least that’s what he believes!)
Phew, that was quite the list!
