Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Merry, Magical, and Bright: Late Fall Adventures of Cam & Luke Updated 12/22

Muppet Vision 3D is such a fun show! I recently read Jim Henson’s biography, and he was working on the attraction (and others that never came to be) at the time of his death. He loved Disney World and was so excited to have his Muppets be a part of the Disney parks!

Great day at Studios and love the nighttime photos with all the Christmas trees all lit up! Great meal at MM and glad they could seat you earlier! I was so impressed with this eatery as there was nothing I could see as a fault from start to finish as you read in my TR from 2016. Love the bread and dipping sauce as so much flavor. I had the tuna tartare and seafood cioppino, which were incredible! I had a great margarita with my app as well. Will definitely return! One of the hidden gems in WDW!

Your night time photos of the Christmas decorations at the Studios are beautiful. Makes me happy to see it all again in your pictures, especially those I may have missed. Your dinner at Mama Melrose sounds delicious. It's been quite a while since we have eaten there. Will have try to add it to a future visit. Happy Holidays to you and Luke!

Thanks! I couldn't help myself. I had to keep getting photos of it all. I'm so glad we got to experience the Christmas season at DHS this year. Next year, I'll have to live vicariously through someone else's photos.

I loved the Christmas tree and ornaments at night best. Luke took quite a few photos with his phone while I used the camera. I don't have his, but they are really good, too. Such a beautiful setting!

Luke and I have been Jim Henson fans from way back, but I've never gotten around to reading his biography. Maybe that needs to be on my list for this year's reading.

DHS was even more beautiful at night this Christmas season. We've eaten quite a few times at Mama Melrose's and never once had a bad meal. Like you, we will definitely be back.

Luke and I enjoy driving around at night in our town, checking out the Christmas lights. It was fun to get a head start walking through Studios at night. Merry Christmas!

Thanks for sharinnng all of the pix from DHS. I am so sorry that we were not able to fit it in this year. We really missed seeing you guys and seeing the decorations. Maybe next year in November when we come down for the GKTW race. I do not think we will be able to come back before then.

I was so excited about the new decorations that I had to take plenty of photos to share and to scrapbook. Hope you get to see them for yourself next year.

Next: Another Day, Another Park, Small Roadblock, and Free Starbucks

Day 3 Part 1 Tuesday, November 7 at the Magic Kingdom

Another day dawned and Luke’s phone alarm sounded at 7:00 AM and after a 10 minute wait at the bus stop we boarded our transport to the Magic Kingdom by 8:30. Bag check and scanning went smoothly, and then we hit a small roadblock when my ban would not scan at the AP entrance. The CM at the scanner told me to use the same finger I had used yesterday. In my head, I thought “DUH!” Out loud, I responded that I was, but she had already called over another CM with a tablet. He redid everything so now I will use my right index finger instead of my left. That really will work much better, but begs the question of why was this not done other times when I had problems and even told them I should never had started with my left index finger as it was awkward. I do tend to do things in a complicated fashion, by nature. Now that I had been officially finger and band scanned, we could enter the park.

Before we went through the tunnel though, I wanted some photos of the Christmas decorations in front of the train station. Unfortunately, it was crowded out front at this point that I took one and gave up. The line for a PhotoPass photographer were quite long, so into the tunnel we went.

As we made our way to our first destination, I just had to stop frequently to take some Christmas décor photos of light fixtures, the tree, and shop windows. Of course, Luke and I were very excited to see the train running around the bottom of the tree. I tried to be as quick as possible because we had folks waiting for us.

I had sent Pam a text when we boarded a bus and then one we arrived at the Magic Kingdom. I had let her know the day before that we’d want to get breakfast at Starbucks first. She had let me know that she and Charlotte would be arriving a little earlier than us as they had a FastPass for Buzz Lightyear, one of Pam’s favorite rides, right at park opening. With my texts she knew pretty much when to meet us outside Starbucks. In fact, Charlotte was already in line. When we met Pam, she was carrying a medium sized Mickey shopping bag. I’ll admit I was curious. After we hugged, she handed the bag to me, saying “Happy Birthday.” Now my birthday is in July, but this is the first we’d seen each other since then. She had gotten me the cutest little Dooney & Bourke bag in a giraffe print with red accents along with a D&B wallet. There was also a Disney Family Feud game. So sweet of her!

Starbucks was quite crowded inside so Pam who wasn’t getting a coffee or hot chocolate decided to remain outside. We eventually made our way to the front of the line to be waited on by Brittney who put in our order for a Venti Café Mocha, Tall Hot Chocolate, a Bacon, Egg and Gouda on a Ciabatta, and a Chocolate Croissant. Then Luke went to scan the Starbucks app on his phone as our gift cards were all loaded on there. Brittney hit the wrong key once Luke was done. She tried to backtrack on the register, but when she could not, she told us breakfast was free and tore up the receipt. Back outside we reunited with Pam and Charlotte and moved to our favorite alley for eating our treats. Unfortunately, all the tables were taken, but there was a bench against the back wall where we could all sit comfortably. We leisurely ate and chatted away since we had a little bit before the next FastPass for all of us. We learned that Pam had beaten Charlotte on Buzz, a fact she was quite proud of. Charlotte also got her breakfast free because she turned in a forgotten phone. Free breakfast for us all!

Before heading off for our first FastPass, I requested that we get a locker because my gifts though fantastic were heavy. I didn’t think it would be fun to lug them around all day. Back to the front of the park, we went. Once my goodies were safely stowed away, I got another better photo of the Christmas tree and the train circling around it.

I even talked everyone in to getting our photo made by the PhotoPass photographer stationed at the tree.

From there we were off to Neverland for a ride on Peter Pan’s Flight. Pam and Charlotte had not been able to get a FastPass for this ride, not a big surprise as the ones for PP are still very popular. Instead, they waited over by Pinocchio Village Haus. We had a teeny wait, but in short order, we were flying over London.

Next, we had FastPasses for all four of us on the Haunted Mansion. After visiting our friends, the grim grinning ghosts, a restroom break was in order. We made our way over to the Rapunzel restrooms. At this point, Charlotte had a FastPass for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, at least she thought she did. I directed her to the FP entrance as she had not ridden this one yet. Luke, Pam, and I walked over to Storybook treats for drinks while we waited for Charlotte to return. We had just gotten our drinks when Pam got a text from Charlotte that she had goofed and her FP was actually for 10:30 PM, not AM. Bummer! Then the texting back and forth began as Pam tried to explain to Charlotte where we were. For some unknown reason she had headed off toward Tomorrowland when she was rejected at SDMT, so let’s just say it took about ten minutes to direct her back to us.

By now, Luke and I were in our window for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Today was a nicely warm day, so Pam and Charlotte asked about a shady spot to sit while they waited. We pointed them in the direction of Splash Mountain and told them about the seating near the restroom. Then we entered the FastPass entrance, and the photo shoot began. I love the theming of this ride, and as you may recall, I tend to take quite a few photos in the queue. This trip I tried for some shots and angles I’ve not done in the past. Because of that search, Luke noted the name on the wagon for the first time, Clarkdale, which is close to my address growing up, Clarksdale.

At this point, all four of us were hungry again. We mentioned that Pecos Bill’s was close by, and Pam remembered eating with us here before and liked it. Decision made! Using our AP discount here, we took care of everyone’s meals. Luke and I shared a Fajita Platter with black beans and yellow rice, Charlotte had Beef Nachos, and Pam chose the Southwestern Chicken Salad. After a stop at the condiment bar, we all lined up behind Luke to search for a table for four. Since Luke is much taller than we three ladies, he had a better perspective looking over the crowd. And he was great, finding a table very quickly. Yeah! Another leisurely meal with loads of chatter and catching up with each other. When we finished, we headed to the restroom near Pirates of the Caribbean. A funny story, Pam and Charlotte finished up before me, and as I was exiting a dude was entering – the ladies’ restroom. I motioned to the sign, but he wasn’t looking in my directions because he was on his phone. I just stood there. When he finally looked up from his phone, he saw women everywhere, and made a very speedy exit.

Right after Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, we made another FastPass for Pirates of the Caribbean, another of Pam’s favorites. I was super happy that Charlotte and I were able to get similar times. With lunch done, we headed toward PotC, stopping first for some PhotoPass photos. I really like these, too,

Then it was off to visit with Jack Sparrow. Luke had told me about the new ride photo for Pirates, but I had forgotten. As we neared the camera, Luke pointed it out to Pam and I who foolishly looked right at it as the flash went off. We were both blinded by a flash spot for the remainder of the ride. Honestly, my vision made it seem like parts of the ride were being censured.

It was now around 1:30, and Charlotte was anxious to leave because she had plans with friends for the late afternoon. We walked Pam and Charlotte back to the front to say goodbye for this trip. They had both taken today off, but couldn’t the rest of our stay, and our Saturday was already booked with a PassPorter meet.

NEXT: Oops! I dropped my phone!

Great first half to your day in the MK! Can't believe how crowded it is there so early! You certainly packed a lot in with a number of attractions, beverage stops and lunch at PB! A bit of a goof with Charlotte's FP+ for Peter Pan. I awlays double check my ressies and she obviously didn't with the am/pm screw up! Not like us Disney Uber Planners! Too funny with the guy on his phone going into the ladies room! Good idea for him to stay off the phone for a bit and perhaps pay attention for a bit! He probably does the same thing when crossing busy streets and paying more attention to his phone! Good idea to be more alert of his surroundings and just habit, but not a good thing as he may pay for this one day!

Yay for a free breakfast! That is too funny about the ladies' restroom. I bet his face was a real picture!

What a shame about Charlotte's FP. So I guess that was her out of getting any other FPs for the rest of the day then?

Nice that you all got a free breakfast at Starbucks.
