Question Anyone had ‘Ohana breakfast since last October?

We had a delicious breakfast then but heard the DIS Unplugged crew say both breakfast and dinner there are not good recently. Loooong waits to be seated (close to an hour) and mediocre food, they said.

The wait, we can deal with, as that’s not unforeseen at WDW. However, we operate on the if-they-screw-up-breakfast-forget-it theory where choosing restaurants is concerned.

Anybody have a recent breakfast experience there, good or bad?

We've had breakfast there 2x, the last about 2 years ago. I remember walking away thinking "I'm good. I don't need to come back here again". There were so many other places we had/have yet to try that we moved on. We LOVE a good breakfast, especially since one of the few things DS eats is bacon. And he doesn't like it at "Ohana
If you are a massive Stitch fan then I can see going. If not, well...IMHO

I belong to group of Disney foodies on Facebook and the pictures I am seeing for the dinner does not look appealing. You can’t mess up breakfast but who knows.

Sorry Dot I do not have either meal scheduled for my upcoming trip. Last time I ate there was for dinner but that was 2014 and at that time it was pretty good. Not sure what is going on now .....

Sorry for this post just reread your post and you were asking for breakfast! I got Disney on the brain.... lol

The name says it all IMO - Dis. Do they ever have anything good to say? I don't think I've seen anything positive from them.

Yes, the guys, all of them, said their food at dinner recently was badly cooked and unappetizing.

‘Ohana used to be a standby for most of them, they said, a predictably good dinner place for taking family and friends, which is why this experience was so disappointing.

Also, they were reacting, they said, to a recently increased number of bad reviews on surveys and their boards, several complaining of bad service and cold food.

I’m wondering if Pete Werner had the reason correct. His theory was that when a place is consistently as popular as ‘Ohana, Disney steps in and forces them to cut back on ingredient costs. In short, order cheaper meats and produce to make more money. Disney knows that people will keep going there despite significant quality reductions.

Also, some PassPorters have theorized that staff cutbacks are affecting service various places.

We had the breakfast in March, and we had a great experience. We were seated quickly after our ADR time. Our server was great. The food was good, too. The only thing that I wished had been different was the pineapple coconut bread. It was cold, which I gather is the way they serve it, but I would’ve liked it warm, I think. Other than that, we had a grand experience and left stuffed. We skipped lunch that day!

That sounds about like our October experience, Susan. Thanks for the reassurance.

Maybe we’ll have similar luck this fall as we enjoyed our breakfast there so much that a return was a given.

The last time I was there was 2014 and we had both breakfast and dinner there. We have an ADR for breakfast for this fall so I am really glad to see that the people who have been there recently say it is good. We have love 'Ohana!

We didn't eat there too far behind you but I tend to agree with the DIS unplugged. ( I don't always agree with them either but I like to get perspective.) Our breakfast there was fine but not as we've come to expect. We used to be huge 'Ohana fans but even staying at the Polynesian this trip, we have no desire. However! We love the bar outside of the restaurant!!!

We ate there this past November for Breakfast. Our kids enjoyed it more when Stitch was walking around to each table instead of just talking the picture in the beginning. The waffles seemed smaller then previous years, and a bit colder.

We had breakfast there in Ddecember. But for us it was one and done.

We enjoyed the food. We enjoyed the view (we were at a window overlooking the pool and lake).

The wait to get in was LONG. Captain Cook's hass just as good if not better food for much less cost.

We are glad we did it as it has sbeen on our bucket list for years, but I don't see us being back for a very long time.

We ate 2x here in March 2018 (1st day of the trip and our last as we were staying at the Poly and it was convenient.

Our first meal was near the end of seating and were seated very quickly. The food was hot and very plentiful. Our server was a little slow at first as he was juggling tons of large tables but after a few left we had top notch service. He even brought out the refills we requested rather than merely bringing out a full platter which I jad occur in past visits. The characters especially Stitch was very animated and tons of fun. We had a middle of the room table that actually had a great view despite not being at the windows.

Our second meal was at the opening seating as we had a lot to do before departing. I requested a window table so I could take photos and were assured Ibhad that. When seated we were on the side and had a window but no view except a huge Palm and the corner of the Marina. I asked to be moved as 90% of the dining room was empty. I was ignored. We began to eat and the platter was cold (like it had been sitting in the window just waiting for us to be seated). I asked for a Manager and we got a new platter and table via the chef and be him and me we moved all the stuff (silverware, plates etc). We also ended up with a new server who was much better than the initial one. By this point in our trip and stay we were tired of the combo juice and requested pineapple and our initial server was slightly out off by that and my desire for Kona coffee. Our new server happily replaced our now cold Kona coffee and refilled everything very promptly including the juice and food. In the end our meal was enjoyable but I felt the first one was better. I also didnt enjoy the characters literally being upon us within seconds of being seated. We did end up seeing them a second time just before leaving. Mostly because my son wanted to take part in the kids parade with the characters. This occurs every 45 minutes or so.

I would recommend this restaurant but I would caution booking the first seating. I also would tell you that Kona (just next door) is a phenomenal meal. Much faster and more low key but absolutely great service and very very tasty food with huge portions (none of us finished our food on either visit).
