Frustrated with dryer!!! And with the husband!

So our dryer has been acting up. You push the start button and it starts up and when you let go of the start button it stops.

So I turned to our faithful Google and looked up reasons why it might be doing this. Google tells me that it is probably the motor relay switch. And Google also tells me how I can check and make sure that it is the relay switch. And if it is not the relay switch that it is probably the motor.

Well unfortunately it looks like it is the motor. So as I am fighting trying to get this stupid thing figured out, my husband is sitting in the living room watching Jurassic World. Then his friend shows up and then proceed to Basically hang out and shoot the breeze. All the while Iím in the back trying to figure out the stink and driv basically hang out and shoot the breeze. All the while Iím in the back trying to figure out the stinking dryer!!

So finally I got up from my mess in the laundry area, gathered up all my tools, made sure I knew where all the parts for the dryer were, put them in a safe place, put on my shoes, grabbed my car keys and out the door I went.

I had to leave before I yelled at someone. I know that my husband is not terribly mechanical and normally if something is broken and has to be fixed Iím the one who does it but it wouldíve been nice if he had at least been trying to help. The moral support would have been nice.

I'm sorry about your dryer and feel your pain.
When we got married, it was me who brought the tool box into the relationship. He tries sometimes, but doesn't want anyone's help because he feels like he is being "supervised" so he leaves me along because he thinks I will feel the same way.
Good move to go away--self imposed preventative time-out.
Hope things are better soon!

Sorry you're having dryer issues. I married MR fix it. He's the one with the tool box.

Sorry about the dryer. That sucks. Hope you can get it running.

I get what you are saying. I have the opposite problem...DH tries to take over. To his credit, he sees it as 'helping'. I see it as "I can do it better." So I only do things like that when he's not around and just present the finished task.

Bummer. Sorry about your dryer. I'm very lucky that I married a man who can literally take apart anything and fix it, from a car to a can opener. Plus we gutted our house down to the frame and he did everything renovating it, electric, plumbing, even dug out a basement and did the new block. Good luck!

BTW - sorry for all the typos in my first post. I was using my phone and the voice to text function and it kind of goobered up!!

See, not too long ago the switch on the washer lid went kaput. DH was contemplating a new washer almost from the get-go. I said, no...let me look into this. A little research on Google and a couple of YouTube videos, a call to the local appliance shop for the part and 30 minutes of my time and the washer is working like a champ. What did DH do? He held the flashlight and handed me tools and parts. I was good with that.

He has always been very positive about the fact that I can fix a lot of things. My dad didn't have sons so he taught both his daughters to be very independent. DH likes that. Unfortunately, he didn't get the mechanical gene in his family. Now that I think about it, neither did his sister. It must have skipped a generation!!!

It was just the fact that he didn't even ask if there was anything he could help with!!! Now, he had worked all day, but so had I. And again, when we went to Lowe's to get an electrical connector (I broke one trying to test the relay switch) and to check if they had dryer parts (like motors etc...FYI, they don't), he again headed straight for new dryers!!!! NOOOOOOOO....I would rather pay $250 for a new motor and someone to put it in than $500-800 for a new dryer!! Plus the dryer we have matches the washer! I like that!

Okay, I have vented enough. I called the appliance people this morning. They have to order the motor. It won't be in until Monday and they should be able to come out on Tuesday. But that means at least one trip to the laudromat. I hate the laudromat. I always feel like I am wasting time, sitting there watching my clothes go around and around in circles! LOL!

I understand. Sometimes all we really need is for someone to say, 'Aw, honey'. I'm impressed that you're able to fix so much. Tell DH that next time he should at least ask if there is something he can do for you. And as for the laundromat, think of it as time to meditate and rest. Good luck!

If I meditate too much on the washer or dryer, I might end up hypnotized!!

I get you....my ex never was the fixer- he could change oil in the cars. But I have been on my own for quite a long time....I don't know how to fix things like appliances or anything electrical.... and I don't pretend so I call the the experts on that!

But good call about walking out! I hate the laundromat too... and I feel the same way, and just hope your clothes get cleaned & dry very fast so you can get out of there.

Good thing you only have to put this up for a few days....imagine if you had to use the laundromat all the time.... Yuck!
