Chances for fp on an impromptu trip?

I have always planned trips over 6 months head of time. I know it is important to make fp reservations as early as possible. I just retired and was thinking about going at the end of October. What would my fp chances be for the tier 1 rides?

If I don't go in October I was thinking Mid to late March. Would that be a better time? I don't want to have to deal with Spring Break crowds. I was a teacher, so I'm looking forward to going on the off season!

We love the fall for lower rates and crowd levels.

Have you considered mid-November? Less chance of hurricanes, cooler weather and generally less crowding. Plus, if you go the week before Thanksgiving week, you’ll get to see quite a lot of holiday decorations, another reason I love that week.

As for FPs, it’s pretty much a tossup as to what you may be able to get. I suggest checking at odd times of day, mid-morning or afternoon, fairly late evening. Weekend mornings can be a good time, also. Keep trying and eventually you’re likely to get the ones not the newest that the entire world must have.

Yes I was looking up until the Thanksgiving week. I didn't realize they decorated before Thanksgiving!

The MK will be decorated since the Christmas party starts the second Sunday or Monday of November usually. The big trees may be in place in the other parks with smaller decorations gradually added prior to Thanksgiving.

Some resorts may be fully decorated. Our experience in recent years has been that not all will be until Thanksgiving weekend.

Holiday events for the most part also do not begin until Thanksgiving weekend.

Nevertheless, you can still feel the Disney holiday spirit plenty. It’s a great time to be at WDW.

I, too, am a retired teacher. The first year I went to WDW 3 times with an AP. My favorite times to go are early Dec. or mid to early May. Just watch out for Easter, which is April 21 in 2019. Mid-march will definitely be spring break time for many of the Southern schools.

Thanks for your input! Mid-may sounds like a good idea and AP's for an early December 2019 trip! Only now need to get my husband on board who isn't the biggest Disney fan.
