Question Tips for a coworker that's never been to DW

My coworker is going to Disney World for the first time this week! She's celebrating her 40th Wedding Anniversary there! I was wondering if you guys had any quick tips I could send to her while she's down there. Her husband was in the military. I didn't know if they did anything else besides discounts on tickets for military personnel. She's been giving me a countdown for 2 weeks. She's so excited. Any tips could help especially if they've never been.

Subscribe to the LIVE! Guide! If they don't have time for that, point them to the Using Disney Tech forum.

My hairdresser is going for the first time in June. I gave him a copy of the 2016 PassPorter (I have 2 or 3), and he was SO grateful!

If you can loan your co-worker an older one you have, she will be much better off.

Otherwise: explain FastPass+ and Magic Bands (MBs if they're on property; SOG doesn't use them for room keys).

Is she already there?

Don't try to do everything - it's not going to happen - and be prepared for heat and crowds. Don't let afternoon rain showers stop you, just go to an indoor attraction instead.

Just FYI Military can stay at Shades of Green on property (military resort) and I think it might be reasonably priced.

Get the My Disney Experience App.
Make reservations at sit-down restaurants before going (well, today!).
Get fast-passes (now).

Plan some a coffee or treat break where you can sit and take it in for a few moments.

Let the Photopass photographers capture your pictures (with your phone).
Stay for Fireworks or evening shows.

Have a great trip!!

They can get free water at any place that serves drinks from a fountain, This was a saving grace for us.

We'd get 2 each and fill up our water bottles.

Hotels rarely have enough outlets. Take a power strip.

Take an over the door hanging shoe rack for the bathroom. It's great to hold brushes, toiletries, and other small things that take up space on the bathroom counter.

Have everyone, including herself, that's going with her pick two or three things in each park and non park that are do or die things for them then make a point of getting those things done asap upon entering a park. Also when I'm with someone, typically my mom, we agree at the start of the trip that if we get separated if we're leaving the park at night that we'll meet up back at our hotel room. We both have phones so during the day we'd just call or text if we get separated but at night we'd be headed back to the hotel anyway and meeting back at the hotel saves us potentially spending a lot of time trying to find one another in a crowded and dark park.

The first day you go to the parks, do the Magic Kingdom.

And don't ride the monorail. Don't take the bus. TAKE THE FERRY. This draws the suspense out just a little bit, as you see the MK entrance slowly rising over the lake - but, it's a brief process, followed very swiftly by the satisfaction of arriving.

That was the advice we were given for my first trip there, back in 1985. The trip was my fourteenth birthday present from my grandmother, and that added bit of almost-there suspense really, really made an impression on me. And on my mother, too (she'd never been before, either).

Just take things at their own pace, don't think they can see and do it all. Wearing yourself out on vacation is no fun and, if there's lots you don't see, that's always a reason to go back.

Relaxing in Montreux on our weekend break in Switzerland. The pre-trip report for our back-to-back cruises on the Disney Magic is now underway.
