Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Definitely. I'm so glad we got to visit Sachsenhausen, when we went to Berlin, as it really brought it home to you what happened there.

The Bowfin reminds me of the Pampanito that we went on in San Francisco - although the Pampanito is completely free floating and as a result i got sea sick within moments of entering the aft torpedo room.

Great photos from on top of the Bowfin! Marked looked like he was getting way to much into it with all the gunnery!

The museum looks ok, but doesn't go as in depth as the sub or the Arizona Memorial does.

Interesting about the nukes there and the information regarding them as why we need them to begin with. When you have countries and individual terrorist groups that can get their hands on them, when you don't know what they're going to do with them, then I can see why countries like the USA, England etc. still have them. All as I can think about this is those movies during the 80's and the aftermath of nuclear war. The USA version being "The Day After" with England having "Threads". Both are quite different, but with the same result!

Finally caught up after a week offline! Love the pictures of the resort so far (although looks like an Alaskan cruise has won out for our 25th anniversary trip).
Pearl Harbor is an amazing site to see, and pay tribute to those who died as well as those who continued to bravely serve. The sub looked fascinating. I've toured the sub they have at Chicago's Museum of Science & Industry. No way could I survive on one. A cruise cabin is cramped enough for me! My brother-in-law served on a nuclear sub in the 1990's, where they'd be at sea for months at a time. Not sure how he managed!

I've never watched anything like that. I just don't like the idea of knowing anymore about that sort of thing than I absolutely have to....

Welcome back! Alaskan cruise vs. Hawaii - tough call between the two. We said both would be once-in-a-lifetime and now we plan on going back to both, so I think that tells you something...

We've been round that sub at the Museum of Science and Industry - that's one of the neatest things there.

Tuesday 5 November part six: what is Goofy doing?

We headed back to the car, and instead of taking the top down, we put the air conditioning on maximum, as we needed it!

It뭩 just as well we didn뭪 put the top down, as we had a bit of rain on the way back, although it was gone within a couple of minutes.

A familiar sign to most of you guys I뭢 sure

Arriving back at Ko Olina

When we got back to Ko Olina, we headed to the shopping complex that뭩 literally across the street from Aulani, as I뭗 had a lot of questions from people about whether there was anything local where they could go and buy regular items. We wandered around, and I got some photos of the stores here, and where I could, the menus that go with them. There뭩 certainly a good selection, with a sushi place, coffee shop, pizza place, Mexican place, and another restaurant:

That뭩 how close Aulani is to this complex!

Then we went into the Island Country Markets by ABC Stores, and my goodness, what a gold mine! Honestly, this place pretty much has everything you could ever want. I took lots of photos to try and give people an idea of the range of items it뭩 got:

And here were the lunch items for the day:

I got a couple of T-shirts, as they were lovely designs, and they were offering two embroidered T-shirts for $32, which I thought was a good deal. I also got a Hawaiian vest top.

We both bought lunch in there as well. Mark went for the famous Ko Olina burger, an extra large 100% all beef chuck steak burger, fresh Hawaiian pineapple, locally grown tomatoes, green leaf lettuce, all served on a bakery fresh bun. It was massive!

I went for a tub of pineapple and coconut Haagen Dazs, as we can뭪 get this at home and when we stayed at Sue and Steve뭩 four years ago, I loved it, but haven뭪 been able to get this since. And I put away the entire tub for lunch!

We headed back to Aulani, and here a very quick word here about the parking. When we got back, we went up a level, as we뭗 learnt that뭩 the level by the lobby it뭩 actually marked as P-L as you can see from this photo for lobby, so that뭩 the best one to aim for

The view out to Oahu from the car park

As we sat on our balcony eating our healthy lunch we saw Goofy out doing meets and greets, and goodness, he was having fun in the water. We couldn뭪 believe the antics he got up to!

Of course, we couldn뭪 resist getting some photos from our room.

Next: visiting a one bedroom villa

Wow that's quite the market! Good to know! I couldn't help but notice how cheap the price of the pineapple compared to here! we pay at least 3 times that! If not more! Love your lunch selection! And Goofy! Ha! That's quite the character!

There is a long-held belief amongst Disney vacationers that at least one meal per vacation can consist entirely of ice-cream. (This is usually some kind of Ghirardelli's sundae concoction, but I am with you on this one and would have definitely gone for a B&J flavour that we can't get in the UK!).

Looks yummy!

Tell Mark his burger looked nice, but a burger is a burger .......

That market had a great selection and the prices weren't bad either. I always thought you and I had a lot in common, but the fact that you had a pint of ice cream for lunch makes you my kind of person. Goofy in the pool?! That is crazy fun.

That market looks like a great place to stock up on some necessities! And, I agree, those ABC stores have anything and everything you could possibly need. When we were in Waikiki Chris and I just laughed because there was literally one of those stores on every block!

Lunch looked yummy too, especially yours! I've never had that flavor, but now I'll be on the lookout for it

I love how Goofy was playing in the water with the guests, looks like fun!
