Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm​. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Such an awful thing anytime - and certainly took the steam out of your excitement for the trip, I'm sure....
Maybe the lousy dinner was just helping ease into the shock of the evening. You weren't coming back to the room on a high from some fantastic meal....

The tragic news of Bill was such a shock. I also remember when Lorie died, that was horrible. Following along with her FB and then all of a sudden she was gone It's hard to think about anything else when you get such terrible news. Sorry that was the way you had to start your trip.

Definitely a tragic start to your trip! I felt the same way as I didn't log in that day until after dinner, which is unusual for me, but we'd been busy. Marnie's posts and the ones that followed sent me into a tailspin. And then you two had had so many snafus all day long that didn't help whatsoever.

Wednesday 23 September – part one: we’ll be “two or three minutes”

I did sleep a lot better than I expected, given the events of last night. I think I was just completely worn out with all the crying I did. I woke up just feeling numb. As someone else said either on the boards or on Facebook, you wake up, hoping it’s a bad dream, but then realise it wasn’t. I still couldn’t comprehend what had happened and why such a wonderful person was taken away from us, but this morning, I sadly knew it was real. I guess I was slowly coming to terms with the news, even though I didn’t want to.

We got going and were checking out just before 8:00am. Now we were supposed to phone the valet parking company half an hour before we were due at Heathrow, but it didn’t work out like that. There was no cell phone signal in the room, so Mark went out to the car, I checked out and paid for last night’s dinner, and then just as I came out, he was arriving. Perfect timing!

We had to wait a while for the car’s GPS to get going. Obviously she had a hard night as well…. Once it did, we set off, ignoring her every time she told us to “turn around when possible” as she thought we were on a different road. It obviously wasn’t the day for technology either, as the cell phone then wouldn’t work. We were about five minutes into the journey when I was able to call the valet parking people and let them know we were about 10 minutes out. So much for half an hour’s notice.



We were at terminal 3 departures dot on the time we said we would be – about 8:15am, and thankfully this time it was much easier than just over three weeks ago. Instead of having to park in the short stay car park, we could just pull up in the passenger drop off zone, which we did, and off loaded the luggage. Then we just had to wait for the valet parking people to turn up….

… and wait…

… and wait a bit more….

I’m sure you get the idea. I was told when I rang them at 8:17am that they’d be “two or three minutes”. I was trying to call them at 8:25am to say it was a funny two or three minutes, when the guy finally turned up and we left the car with him.

We headed over to the terminal building…

… and went inside to drop our bags…



We were very pleased to see the small black one come up at 22.9kgs, as the weight limit is 23kgs. We’d checked them before leaving home last night, and the small black one had been 19kgs and the big red one, which contained Mark’s suit, had been 24kgs, so this morning we’d moved the suit into the small black one, hoping it would come in within weight. Well it worked!

Bags safely deposited, we headed upstairs to security. I have no idea whether we actually did go through fast track security or not. I asked a woman whether we qualified as Premium Economy, as I couldn’t remember, and she waved me through the line next to her. There were literally just two people in front of us.

The first barrier we came to was an automatic one, where you have to scan your barcode from your boarding pass. Now this would be the boarding pass that I wasn’t sure whether or not it had printed properly. Uh-oh! Thankfully it must’ve done, as it let us straight through.

We were immediately through security, although I got picked for a random pat-down. Then we had to make our way through the duty free nightmare of perfume…



Mark made a good point as we coughed and spluttered our way through (and that was without even looking at the prices of the things! ) – what happens if someone has an allergy and you have to go past all this perfume? He’s right, that could be very unpleasant, and there is now no way around it, both at Heathrow and Gatwick. At least there were some entertaining sights near the exit….



When we came out of there, Mark had a look to see if there were any new books out, but there weren’t, so we made our way over to the airport lounge. I loved the entrance corridor…

What a pain to have to walk through all that perfume! Especially for people pulling bags, it must be quite an obstacle course.

I wonder if others have issues with their cell phone service in and around the airport. If so, the car company is probably used to that!

Sorry for the rough start to the trip with the dreadful news. The only consolation was that you were meeting up with so many PassPorters to honor Bill's memory and could sympathize with what you were going thru! What a nightmare to have to walk thru all that perfume at the airport!

I hate duty free shops because of the perfume. I always get a headache just walking by!

I suspect it's probably just us with the phone issues - the reception seemed to be fine, it was just the phone.
