Falling in love with New England… TRIP REPORT COMPLETED - Page 22 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The food on your flight looked first class! I remember the days when the airlines would at least serve you a little sandwich on our flights. Now you get a beverage with no peanuts or pretzels! Glad that you had a couple movies that were uplifting to watch
Ah you see - this is why you need to fly internationally, you get much better food!
What a spread in the lounge! Glad you enjoyed your massage! Great pictures from the flight and the food looks delish! Wish we could get something like that over here!
It really does scare me how different we are with flying on each side of the pond. In the nicest possible way, it does feel as if you guys are about 30 years or so behind us, which is such a shame.
First, thanks for the lounge info. I have a while to figure out my terminal I guess, since we don't fly home from London until August 28th!
Well, that's a Sunday, so we could always come up and see you and spend some time with you guys, if that appeals? Private message me if you're interested - right now, I don't have anything in for that day and it's the Bank Holiday weekend, so we could always make a nice weekend away of it...

Your meal looked delicious! Virgin Atlantic certainly seems to have most airlines beat on food.
I think they probably do - they certainly sounded like they had BA beat from Mark's description...

Cool with the window tinting, but I think I could live without the weird lighting.
Isn't it funny? I really liked the lighting - I thought it was fun.
Wow the food looks and sounds delicious! But that lighting makes it look a weird color. The window tinting thing sounds fun. Kind of neat that you can still look out the window, just tinted. I like that idea!
I think in the end, had I left it long enough, it would've gone completely dark, as we saw some others, which were completely dark. However, I wasn't convinced ours was working 100%, as it didn't seem to darken completely - not great for a new plane or a night flight.
Must say the lounge looked very nice and your massage sounded like a great way to head onto a long flight. Glad that the vegetarian meal was good and that salad does sound amazing. Great customer service as they came back with a dessert for you and a delicious one at that.

Wednesday 23 September – part five: “you need to put an egg timer on how long you’re spending with people”
A couple of hours before landing, they brought round sandwiches. Mark went for the 30,000ft High Club Wrap: chicken and bacon with sweet chilli mayo. I almost wished I ate meat, as the name of it sounded great.
Sadly, I had to make do with the West Country cheddar and double Gloucester cheese with vine tomatoes one, but that was very nice.
I even spotted another passenger plane at one point!
Not long after that came round, I got up to have a stretch, and use the restroom for the final time, as my back was starting to hurt – not surprising, given I’d been sitting down for six hours straight. After that, I felt a lot better.
Before we knew it, we were getting the warnings to make the final use of the restrooms, and then we were coming into land. A lot of the final route was over water, and it was tough to take photos of the shoreline, as the camera just wouldn’t focus on it, but once we got a bit closer, it was a very different story, and I was happily snapping away…
To me, this was exactly how I imagined New England to look – by the water, lots of greenery and beautiful houses, along with harbours, and lovely boats. It really was picture perfect.
I am assuming this is the Boston skyline
I don’t remember Boston Logan Airport being so close to the water, which is something that was very evident as we came into land. Of course, I know it always was, I guess my memory just didn’t retain that information.
We made our way to the gate, and it seemed to take forever for the fasten seatbelts warning to be turned off, then it felt like it also took forever for them to actually open the aircraft door. We stood there for ages, with no-one moving anywhere. Finally, we were off, and immediately two people stopped as we made our way off the plane. Good grief, what is it with people?
When we got to the immigration hall, they signposted first time visitors, and I asked the very unhelpful guy standing there where to go if you weren’t a first time visitor and had been to the States recently, and he just pointed at the first time visitors line. Ok… We were later to learn from others that there was another line for those of us who aren’t first time visitors, but heck, it probably only took about 15 minutes to reach the front of the line, so that wasn’t terrible.
When we did, we spent ages with the guy, not because there was any issue, but because we ended up putting the world to rights for about five minutes! As we left, one of his colleagues yelled over that he needed to put an egg timer on how long he was spending with people.
Yes, that was the Boston skyline. It is really the only skyline in New England. Providence has a few tall buildings but I don't think any of the other NE cities (except maybe Hartford which to me is not true New England) have any buildings over 15-20 stories and then only one or two. MY guess from the oil tanks to the south is that you were approaching from the north and slightly from the west -maybe circled a little.
I love landing in Logan. While I prefer MHT overall, the view in and out of Logan is lovely. And sometimes you go over water just before touching down.
