Aloha and Mahalo Mom and Dad! - Completed 11/18! - Page 2 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hello! I'm sitting on the lanai of my parents' condo, with the ocean and 15th hole on my right (I'm sitting sideways). From this vantage point this week, I've seen mongoose, various tropical birds, geckos (so cute!) and feral cats. We haven't been online much, so I couldn't do a live TR, but I've been keeping detailed notes so that I can tell you all about our Hawaiian adventure when I get back.
Tonight is our last night , but we are going to a luau, so we're going out in style! Right now, we're going to go souvenir shopping and we'll stop by a teeny tiny white sand beach, which is rare here!
Can't wait to tell you about the Gecko Whisperer (me!), the Hawaii DH thought we'd be visiting in the first place (at Hilo), the bottom of the US (South Point) and the vog (Hawaii's version of smog - can you guess what it stands for?).
can't wait to hear about your trip when you get home

We're back home! And man, am I tired! We left Hawaii at 8:50 pm (11:50 PDT) and got into LAX around 4:30 PDT, then drove home to Vegas and got in around 11:00 am (after dropping my parents off). During all of that, I got MAYBE 2 hours of sleep - and that's not all at one time. I'm really fuzzy right now!
But, it was a great trip that I'm looking forward to detailing. I plan to wait until the pictures are uploaded to the computer and I organize them on Facebook (to which I'll link) to start, so it may not be until after Halloween - we'll see how this week goes. I was hoping to meet up with Chezp when they come here at the end of the week and I won't even be able to do that, now!
And since it can't be said enough - MAN am I tired right now!
Saturday morning sunrise broke through around 6:30 a.m. and the world greeted a beautiful morning. I know, because I woke up 2 ½ hours prior to sunrise and was halfway to Los Angeles by the time the sun finally joined us! Our flight out of LAX was scheduled to depart at 1:00 p.m., so we figured we needed to be at the parking lot right around 11:00 a.m. The night before, DH programmed the GPS and we were pleased to discover that LAX Parking Lot B was actually a location in the system less work for us! But back to Saturday morning….We were out of our house by 5:05 (yes, AM, very, very AM) to pick up Mom, Dad and the kids (who spent the night there to get a little extra sleep). By the time we got to Mom and Dad’s, we were about 15 minutes behind schedule, but we weren’t worried since we padded our travel time quite a bit. However, when we got to their house, we discovered that DS had a fever overnight and his cough had intensified Wonderful! Dad ran out at midnight to get Tylenol, but his cough was going to be a problem – we didn’t bring his nebulizer (breathing treatments) with us and they hadn’t wanted to bother us overnight. So, we got on the road at 5:45, with 4 adults, 2 kids, 5 suitcases, 2 camera cases, 3 backpacks, 3 school books, a briefcase and a totebag all in one car.
The drive to LA was uneventful. Josh slept some more (good) which seemed to help his fever. Of course, we stopped at Barstow Station for breakfast. And, of course, we bought Jelly Bellies (and rock candy). We got back on road at 9:00 (still doing great on time) and started keeping eye out for Wal-Mart/Target/something, to get more medicine and a thermometer for DS. Found a Target and stopped a little past Victorville.
Having timed it wonderfully, and with our GPS guiding us right to the parking lot, we arrived at 10:40. After unloading the car, waiting for the tram and getting to the airport, we arrived right at 11:00 – perfect! After stopping the skycap, who wasn’t listening to us, from grabbing someone else’s suitcase and leaving one of ours behind, we headed into LAX. Service at LAX, all around, is horrible. We got to the first checkpoint – the person looked at all 6 boarding passes, but only DH’s driver’s license. No one ever asked the rest of us for ID, for the rest of the flight. We went up stairs and proceeded to x-ray. We then stood in line forever, not because there were a lot of people, but because the x-ray tech was determined to find Waldo in every bag. I guess it’s good that he was that involved, but it was annoying having to wait in stocking feet to push the tray holding my shoes another few inches, then another few, then maybe 6 inches.
Eventually, we got through security and scoped out food for lunch. For a large airport, there sure wasn’t much available. Went to McD’s for the kids. Didn’t push DS, but he ate well and was acting very normal. Mom and I went to a croissant sandwich place and got paninis. Meh, should’ve had McD’s. Dad and DH went to the same place and got other sandwiches for the plane. And then we left.
And my goodness, the plane ride was LONG! Egads it was long! It was also hot and DS’ fever started going up. I was so annoyed with Delta – they do not have individual air controllers, so you are at the mercy of the entire plane cooling down before getting any sort of relief. And we had packed his medicine (it was over 3 oz), so we didn’t have anything to bring the fever down as it started climbing. Poor guy. He was coughing continually and drinking and his inhaler weren’t working. If we’d known before leaving the house, we could have brought his nebulizer, but nothing to do about that now! I finally asked the flight attendant if they carried any meds, but they only had adult doses so we cut it into small pieces and gave him one. Got him to go to sleep, where he didn’t cough, so that was a nice break for everyone around us, I think. One neat/scary thing that happened on the plane, though, was seeing another Delta plane below us. It was really close (in the grand scheme of the sky) and we got pictures of it. I never knew they could fly that close to each other…
We got to Hawaii at 3:42 p.m. (or as DD would say, “It’s 6:45 to us!” which became a refrain until we forbade her from mentioning the time change anymore.) We stopped at Wal-Mart for more meds (again) and some supplies and then went to Safeway for dinner and breakfast (pizza and yogurt/fruit) and got to the condo. Very nice! On the 15th hole. View of the ocean from lanai and master bedroom (which Mom and Dad gave to us). After eating dinner, we gave DS a cooling bath, along with a cooling forehead gel thingy and lots of meds (let’s see – we double dosed him (Tylenol and Motrin), gave him Zyrtek and cough medicine)! All of us, except Dad, went to bed about 8:00 (“which is 11:00 to us!”).
