Technically not a holiday...

Hi! I've been offered a temporary job in Redwood City, CA. It'd be an awesome opportunity and I'd hate to miss it - however I am wondering how income tax works between the countries? UK income tax is extremely easy, I put my tax code and income into this salary calculator and it works everything out for me. Is there a similar tool I can use in America?

Cheers

Yes, there are such calculators, but I’d have my doubts using one would give you the information you need because you are not a citizen.

Besides, in some locations, a person must pay U.S., state and local income taxes. In others only federal and state.

I have no idea how taxation might differ, and it easily may, for someone such as yourself on a work visa.

Perhaps someone else here on the boards can better advise you. Or you may need to see a solicitor for accurate information if this is not an opportunity with your current employer.

What an exciting prospect! I hope it works out for you.
