Eye glass wearers

Has anyone ever lost a pair of eyeglasses on a ride? I know people lose sunglasses frequently, but there are a few rides that I am petrified are going to rip my glasses right off my face ( Yeah, Iím talking about you, Rockiní Roller Coaster). Losing sunglasses is one thing, but if I were to lose my regular eyeglasses it would be awful. Iíve actually taken them off to ride, but it is not the same if you canít see, lol.
Any suggestions or advice?

We wear eyeglasses and take them off for the big rides. I always have a small bag, and my son wears shorts with cargo pockets, so we store our glasses in those and have never had a problem.

I have never once taken off my glasses for a ride--even the biggest roller coasters--and they always remain firmly on my face. This includes Rock n Roller Coaster, Space Mountain, and California Screamin'.

ETA: I take my glasses off sometimes to put on reading glasses for close work, so I have them on eyeglass cords so they hang down on my chest. That might be something you could do if you're worried. I get them at the dollar store, so I can change 'em with my outfit if I feel motivated--which I rarely do.

I've never taken my glasses off on a ride, but I've never ridden Rock n' Roller Coaster. I have removed my hat on some rides so I wouldn't lose it. I like Ginger's idea of using a cord for your glasses.

Weíve used those straps for athletes that attach to each earpiece and fit snugly around the back of your head. You can get those inexpensively at sporting goods departments or stores.

We carefully used those exactly once on Test Track and then kept forgetting them when going out to the parks for the day.

As Ginger said, weíve never had a problem wearing glasses while riding a coaster.

As long as your glasses arenít at all loosefitting, I suspect youíll be fine. The posted warnings are there mostly so you canít sue Disney, Iím betting.

Both Lenny and I wear glasses - well I'm suppose to but I've been bad the last couple of years - and we have both lost glasses at Disney. Mine were prescription sunglasses that I put in my pocket to ride Nemo in Epcot. When I stood up to exit the ride vehicle, I heard something hit plastic and I turned around. I didn't see anything so I kept going. It was as I walked away I noticed my pocket felt oddly flat. Yeah, my sunglasses are what fell - between two of the ride vehicles and straight down underneath them - and it took a day or two but I did get them back.

Lenny needs to wear his glasses all the time and for some reason, on Splash Mountain, he flipped them up to the top of his head. It wasn't the big drop that got him, it was one of the smaller ones that the logs back up at. When we went forward, his head went back and since we were in the last seat, his glasses fell off his head, bounced off the back of the log and went into the water. Believe it or not, we got those back too - but about 3 weeks later when Disney lost and found called us at home and told us they found them.

So that's the good news - depending upon where you lose them, and if you report it and give good details, you can get them back. Iagree with others though. Either use some sort of strap to keep them on, if you can get contacts for vacation, it might be worth it so they're in and done, or take them off. As I said, we did get ours back but both times it was a waiting game to see if they could be found and if found, what condition would they be in.

I've never lost glasses. Sunglasses I take off and secure in a bag and my prescription glasses I leave on and have never had a problem. If you're really worried about get one of the bands that are meant to hold glasses on while playing sports.

There are straps that are specifically for sports and such, that should make your glasses secure enough. The ends of the strap attach to the arms of your glasses, the strap goes around the back of your neck; if the glasses fall off, the strap keeps them at least attached to your body.

EDIT TO ADD: here's one example ...

I wonder if you contact 6 Flags if they would return them if they were found. I was at 6 Flags last week. My daughter got off the last ride of the day and forgot her sweatshirt in the ride bin. A security guard heard our conversation as I sent her back to get it. He said, "we would have gotten it to you," leading me to believe it would have been mailed to me if I had made a request.

Lesley, thatís great advice! I have used the strap in the past (well, letís just say Iíve PURCHASED the strap and packed it and even remembered to bring it to the park once or twice), but this solution is pretty smart!

Well, as it happens we have several pair extras at home because she has never lost them before thankfully. And we actually were right at the time of year we go for eye exams, so I didn't bother! I know thats such a waste, and I rarely do such a thing...but thats the kind of day I was having lol

I've never had any issue with sunglasses or eyeglasses that I wore on my face, and I've ridden all the big thrill rides. I think youre most likely to lose glasses that you put in a pocket or on top of your head.

My DH, my DS and I all wear glasses and have on all our trips to WDW, DL and Six Flags. We have never lost or even came close to losing a pair of glasses on any of the rides. And we have ridden them all...Peter Pan to TOT to California Screaming to RNRC.

As long as your glasses fit properly and aren't loose on your face, the chances of them coming off is slim to none.
