I think that all dogs (unless super well trained) should never be out without being on a leash or otherwise restrained. It only takes a second for a tragedy.
I am glad your puppy is fine, please keep him safe. Ilive in the country too and while we don't have much traffic, what comes, often comes at a clip.
If I remember this correctly, the dog got out of a door that hadn't been closed property by some people working on the house and was hit while the family tried to get him back in the house. An accident.
Oh, such good news! I left on vacation at the end of June and did not check on my computer until just now! What a wonderful report from you! Hoping your Nikini is settling in and is comfortable after his week-long ordeal! I bet he is staying closer to home, now!

I wasn't tryingto place blame. I have just seen so many animals hit in a matter of a few seconds. My big guy has been known to let himslef out. It scares the daylights out of me. We don't have much traffic but what we do comes flying/
I have great sympathy for anyone who hits an animal. Many years ago our very old and pretty bling dog got out (collie golden cross so pretty big) She ran into a car and left a huge dent. I offered to compensate the driver but he was so distraught at hitting Sasha (I was right with her and she hit him) that he didn't want to discuss it.
Keeping animals in keeps everyone safe.
I am glad this puppy came out unharmed but i suspect the family was traumatized.
