Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Rapunzel's Village - Magic Kingdom

Chip and Company announced on Facebook that Rapunzel's Village is coming to the Magic Kingdom. I cannot share photos right now. All that is known is that modern bathrooms will be there to replace the cramped ones next to Peter Pan ride. Probably there will be more changing tables for babies, more companion/family bathrooms, and more room for the disabled and strollers to move around.

Where: Along the Haunted Mansion will be a forest with rocks that will sort of fit in with Haunted Mansion. From Yankee Trader to the left corner of Small World show building will be a long building that has three different types of architecture. In front of this building with be a round pad and walkway. Pad? I do not know if it is a wishing well or kiosk or meeting spot or what but they are currently using that pad for storing pallets of cinder blocks.

In the back of the left building is Rapunzel's Tower. CMs from janitors to the managers above coordinators are super tight. I did get a few facial gestures and words to indicate that there will be more here than just bathrooms. There is space behind the building for CM parking, storage, and a small show building for a meet and greet.

fingers crossed, hope this works

WDWmagic.com has all sorts of articles/pictures about this from the past few months (pretty much since construction started) so if Chip and Co. are just reporting this, they're kind of slow. Granted, WDWmagic hasn't named it Rapunzel's village but it has Rapunzel's tower and all the architecture points towards the film so I'm not surprised it will be called that.

WDD bathrooms need some improvement. There are not enough long changing tables for toddlers and disabled kids. There are not enough changing tables in some areas. Some bathrooms are hard for wheelchairs, scooters, and strollers to fit into let alone navigate. There is a need for family bathrooms as currently families are using the handicapped and companion but even those are not enough.

I did the scoop and have not seen anything about Rapunzel Village from WDWmagic and I do follow them on Facebook. These are current shots. I have seen a few from behind the fence or from the riverboat but not from behind the fence. I would love it to be a meet and greet or ride but would just be happy to walk into a bathroom without trying to get pasts the poor moms who have to wait for family bathrooms or changing tables. I recently read about a lady who cannot leave her scooter so for her a large bathroom would make it easier for her

Waiting and hoping for that something special.

So is this over where the sky bucket port used to be? It's had that swiss chalet look forever. If so, where are they going to park the strollers from Fantasyland now? It's already a nightmare trying to get through the "Philharmagic" / "Peter Pan" / "Small World" corridor.

Yes, the old Skyway station area is where the restrooms are being built. It wouldn't surprise me if they left some space for strollers over there too. I guess we'll find out soon.

Was on the bus going home and met a photopass CM. Even photopass is not getting any word on the characters if any that will appear there. He did say that it definitely will be stroller parking and bathrooms.

Options are food stand, gift shop, and meeting spot. What still is bugging me is that if you ask someone a question normally they say NO and mean it. There is just to much hinting going on. Definitely not a ride based on size and design. Why do I feel like a kid the day before Christmas? So agree with the traffic jam in that corridor leading to Rivers of America. This is one of the last spots in Fantasyland with the old style architecture. Even if they just nailed on facades would tie that corridor into the new Fantasyland.

I heard this rumor on a podcast. Sounds like right now it's nothing more than a bathroom upgrade and maybe a meet and greet area.

I'd put my money (well, a gentleman's bet) on restrooms plus snack stand. And the only reason I include snack stand (space is limited, after all) is because building such a nice new facade and visual focal point for a restroom is not common - park operators like such investments to multi-task. Rapunzel's Tower is what's known in the business as a "weenie" - a "come hither" message that can be seen from afar. A weenie for a restroom? (It could be a weenie for reaching Fantasyland by that pathway, but it's not like folks have had troubles finding the route in the past, and Cinderella Castle is already WDW Weenie #1.)

Meet and Greet? Yeah, it's sorta possible, but with the number of major meet and greets in the New Fantasyland...

Gift Shop? Always a possibility, even with The Yankee Trader right around the corner. There's no shop for Peter Pan's Flight or It's a Small World (unless you count Philharmagic-themed Fantasy Faire).

But in terms of pure geography? The biggest weakness in that corner of the park (from a business standpoint) is snack food. The major snack stands closest to that spot are: Liberty Square Market (approx. 325 feet walking distance), Friar's Nook/Storybook Treats (550 ft.), and Sleepy Hollow (575 ft.). It's over a 860 ft./.16 mile walk between Friar's Nook/Storybook Treats and Liberty Square Market (if you pass through that section of the park - it's shorter to go by the path adjacent to Cinderella Castle). Meantime, that same area is served by two full-meal counter service establishments (Pinocchio Village Haus and Columbia Harbour House) and six shops.

Now, if we can just figure out what kind of treats will be sold (well, if they'll be sold). Sleepy Hollow has batter-based items (waffles and funnel cakes), Friar's Nook has meats (hot dogs), Liberty Square Market is "healthy" (fruit), and Storybook Treats has ice cream. What's left of the major theme park food groups? Candy? Not too likely with Disney's healthy foods initiative. Some sort of frosty specialty beverage? Gaston's has that covered. Turkey legs? Frontierland is nearby, and Gaston's pork shank is a close cousin. Corn dogs doesn't seem quite right, and Friar's Nook isn't that far away. Baked goods? That kind of competes with Sleepy Hollow's waffles, etc., and Gaston's has those warm cinnamon rolls. But despite that, I'm leaning towards hot pretzels. Wetzel-style hot pretzels: plain, savory, and sweet. And pretzels have an old-world connection that fits well with the Medieval European vibe of the new construction.

Don't call it a prediction, just call it a guess (we'll see if it's a good guess).

Dave thank you for that explanation. I know things but not how to explain them like you do. I said to folks that they could just build a building next to Yankee Trader and slap a facade to fit the area if that was just a bathroom. When Disneyland added a fruit kiosk they made a themed little building not a two story building with three facades. I just cannot see so much work for a toilet.

Weenie? OMG, you mean churro, lol. That is too funny. Due to health I can only go every other day and have projects but will pop in when I can to check out progress.

Food: I would say hot dogs would be a cheap and easy fare because Friar's Nook is setting there waiting to open up with everything intact as if staff took the day off to visit Belle. It has a history of being closed. I will not eat at Columbia Harbour House as they only serve brocolli and dry salads. I will not eat at Pinocchio House because I got very very sick after being offered half a cup of macaroni and cheese for DINNER!! They could move the turkey cart up to that location. I am praying they get hot dogs or real Mexican food. Look at Casey's Corner and their size in ratio to their sales. I hope it is an allergen free counter.

Just a note--the Friar's Nook has been closed for months--I'm wondering if they are planning to do something else with that space altogether. I'd love to see a Rapunzel meet and greet area along with a snack cart. I just love the new popcorn cart based on Maurice's inventions that they put near Gaston's Tavern. I cannot wait to see the new area. Almost all of "New Fantasyland" feels like they took the Storybook Canal area from Disneyland and made it life size--I love it!

Ah, THIS must be what my friend who is a MK CM was referring to when she said she was going to learn about something very soon that she was forced to sign a "keep your mouth shut" disclosure paper about, not the Carsland thing like I was thinking. She said whenever it is fully revealed, it should be bigger than the Fantasyland expansion. So who knows what they have in store for us??

Due to the high level of keeping mum, I have a feeling this is going to be much more than bathrooms and a snack.

If it'll be bigger than the Fantasyland expansion... it's not this. Maurice's Cottage/Enchanted Tales With Belle wouldn't fit in this space. You're just going to have to keep wondering!
