Labor Day week?

How busy is Labor Day week? My son starts school two days after Labor Day and was thinking I would let him miss those first two Days of school. We normally go the third week in September. Any less busy or am I dreaming?

I don't know, sorry. But my dad pulled me out of the first two days of school once for a trip and it was awful trying to catch up to all the introductory stuff. Granted this was a new school and my first two days of high school (what was he thinking!?), but it might not be a good idea, depending on his age. Any other two days of the year would have been okay.

As a retired teacher, I agree with Ginger that it’s inadvisable to miss the first few days of school unless an emergency.

Teachers spend much of those start up days establishing their expectations and orienting students to how to work effectively with the teacher.

Unless your son attends one of the rare schools where the teacher stays with a class group from first grade through sixth, missing those first few days can really affect his ability to adjust to a new teacher (or teachers), a new class group and different routines.

Besides, teachers have such a lot to do to get the school year off to a good start that it’s only natural for them to feel some resentment of a family that makes their job that much harder.

Please reconsider pulling your son out then if at all possible.
