Saturday September 17-We left our house around 5am and were in Indiana by 5:45. And that is when the rain started…it was a pretty constant and steady from there through Kentucky and into Tennessee. We stopped around Murphesboro for gas and realized they were having a gas shortage due to a pipeline leak in Alabama. It took us three stops before we found a station we could fill up in. The rain had finally stopped, but that didn’t stop our traffic delays, we were slowed down north of Chattanooga due to lane closures and hit some heavy traffic in the Atlanta area. When we got to our hotel, the Drury Inn in Marrow, we were told that the BET Hip Hop awards were being filmed that night, causing traffic delays. Between the weather and these delays, what should have been a 12 hour drive turned into 14.5 hours. We got to the hotel around 7:30, too late for the 5:30 Kickback, which was kind of a disappointment because I could have really used an adult beverage after that drive!
Sunday, September 18-We got back on the road around 6:30am and had no major delays for the rest of our drive. We arrived in Cocoa Beach around 2pm and checked in to the Hampton Inn. Gary & I went to Ron Jon Surf Shop and Publix to pick up some beer for our stateroom. When we got back to the room we took a walk along the beach, which I repeated with Nik the following morning.
We had breakfast and got checked out of our hotel around 11am and headed over to the port. We parked on the first level so we had to go up one floor to cross to the terminal. We got checked in fairly easily and was in group 16. We found my sister and her family who had gotten there early but had a later boarding number. We texted my other sister to find out where they were and soon saw them checking in and we all hung out for a bit before they called our number.
